That "expert guest" in the podcast is just a 2nd generation kpop fan who doesn't like bts. These people usually stay on Twitter and yap there. Problem arises when they are labeled as "experts" and invited to these kind of podcasts to spread their biased opinions disguised as professional takes.

Yep, and the worst part of it is them saying stuff about "people who tweet" or "don't tweet at us we're grown people" like wtf ?! Just to be sure that no one that would answer them can be took seriously. Because oviously all people that would call them out for their digusting (and very wrong factually) takes is just a kid trolling on twt... 🙄Everytime I'm seeing again that plodcast trough Boracity I'm so frustrated that this was a Times podcast, like a full on twt hater had such a big platform to spread her bs.

Jurnalist, that is the issue with some 2nd gen fans. They think doing one or two tv shows in the US means they "paved the way" when the LITERAL definition is "Make progress or development easier". After their appearances on those shows, nothing progressed in the way of kpop visibility. Even after the massive success of Gangnam Style by Psy in 2012 nothing moved for kpop acts. It wasn't until 2016 KCON featuring BTS and 2017 performance of DNA on the AMAs finally pushed media and other groups to try the US again. Because many agencies didn't want to try the US market after so many failures by themselves and others to break in, so they pushed even harder in Japan where kpop has a foothold.
HYBE desperately needed the money so.........THEY SPENT MORE MONEY THAT THEY SUPPOSEDLY DIDN'T HAVE TO DO AN ONLINE CONCERT BEFORE THEY RELEASED DYNAMITE. Because that's how you do business right, spend more money that you HOPE you can recoup in an economy that is in trouble because of the pandemic. They had NO IDEA when they could make more money when the pandemic hit because concerts are where you make your most money.
Lastly the dumb woman saying that what makes Kookie's album kpop is because a kpop audience is listening to it. UMM WE ALL LISTENED TO MUSIC BEFORE WE FOUND BTS, WE'RE A MUSIC AUDIENCE. Again something I'm pretty sure she knows and hates, so many ARMY give no fucks about kpop and that chaps the asses of many stans of other groups. They all think we've never heard a song before we got to BTS because they don't want to accept that quite a few of us don't care about their industry or favs.

    • @Jurnalist_
      @Jurnalist_  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

If I were to explain it. That would be them taking from the west and make a variant that only could be found in SK or a non western market. It has all the bones of a song from the west but actually only has a tacit connection to the source. It’s like musical costuming.

And the people who complained about BTS becoming too Westernized? BTS started as a hip-hop centric group, their beats and flows were more reminiscent if East and West coast hip-hop, not Idol hip-hop, but only suddenly in 2017 did they start to sound Westernized. How do they not see the stupidity in their criticisms?

You made an excellent point that shouldn't be overlooked. You are extremely new to the world of kpop in terms of the amount of time you've digged into it. However in terms of raw knowledge and understanding, you have absorbed a lot of information in that space of time. Yet that girl, who had been in this space for much longer than you still sounds as uninformed as any random person who are a month into their kpop journey. It's ridiculous that the New York Times seemed to have made no effort to engage with someone who is actually knowledgable. There are people who study this for a living and could have offered real perspective. Hell they could have gotten someone who is Korean and speaks English to get the info. Instead they just got some random American chick with no real credentials or even a following to say they could benefit from clout at least. I don't understand why or how she was picked.
I'm glad that ARMY created a transcript of this so we wouldn't have to give it any views. After all of the bullshit they spewed, we all went over to their podcast and gave them so many low ratings that they dropped from 4.7 stars to 1.6 stars within hours. That was last year and they seemed to have gained only 0.1 stars since then last time I checked last month. They thought they could talk shit and maybe get views from angry fans wanting to check it out. Outrage marketing doesn't work here. You got shit ratings, a drop in your rankings, and no new views for your rage bait. If you wanna get funny with ARMY, we can get hilarious.

Regarding tour refunds, not only could they afford the loss, but they likely had insurance, and so didn't have to pay back everything out of pocket. And also, I think there were quite a few fans who donated their refund to pay for the venue employees' paycheck fund, since they were out of work during the pandemic.

I no longer consider this a legit news agency, just like all the others that I thought were legit and posted shit against BTS in a very unprofessional way. There are so many issues with this podcast. First of all they completely ignored talking about any of BTS Korean songs as a group and as soloists. They made it seem like BTS transitioned to only making fully English songs back in 2020 when in reality they've released a lot more Korean songs since 2020 as opposed to English. And out of the 7 members only Jungkook had a fully English album and that's the only solo album they discussed completely ignoring the other member's albums/songs that were in Korean. BTS as a group and as soloists shouldn't have to limit themselves to the type of music they want to make and should be able to make music in any language they want. Also acting like NewJeans started the trend of combining Korean and English was odd to me. Kpop songs have been doing this for decades, it didn't start with NewJeans. Also all this bs about BTS losing their popularity in South Korea after the release of their English songs. I don't know what metric they are using but didn't Dynamite and Butter (2 fully English songs) win several song of the year awards in South Korea? Also winning Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for Proof- an anthology album and having a successful sold out concert in Busan in 2022. Then they had to be cowards and not mention their names because they didn't want fans hating on them. Well geez maybe if you didn't say dumb crap fans wouldn't feel the need to defend to BTS in such a strong way. If you're going to throw out the negativity don't be shocked when the same negativity hits you back in the face. And a so called music expert didn't know who Steve Aoki was? I don't follow EDM either but I still knew him. And Mic Drop Steve Aoki Remix is a banger.

I'm actually a 2nd generation fan and a former VIP yet a major difference between me and that guest is that I never treated Asian music as a novelty, I just listened to music in a different language (Japanese & Korean, both languages I started learning as well). She, like many K-pop and J-pop fans exoticize idols & that's why "becoming too Western" is a dorn. If Asian ppl speak, dress, sing, etc like a US American white celebrity, the exoticism vanishes, they realize that they don't actually have interest in foreign acts the moment they aren't exotic, different & weird enough to claim themselves a victim. K-pop fans will elavate their status to martyr by taking credit for being above the average person who rejects foreign songs. I personally never used East Asian music to make myself seem special which is why I never fit into these fan circles to begin with. 2nd generation K-pop & even J-pop had the better music since producers still cared & had a style but I can't use that argument against BTS who have always put out quality production & lyricism. It's pure hate for BTS succeeding without compromises as opposed to the many failed attempts of previous idols.

This is painful to listen to 😅 even her understanding of the kpop industry is rudimentary and kind of rooted in some kind of closeted xenophobia. It sounds like the guest is of the type that likes being edgy for liking "different, weird or foreign" things but just in a fetish-like performative way. Outside of what services her idea of what the industry should look like and what artists should do, it's too much and she has a negative take on it. It's disrespectful.
The media called txt BTS' baby brothers because they're the second group from the label after BTS. It had nothing to do with replacing them. Their sound was always their own and different from BTS . It's crazy to think the company was trying to replace BTS with txt when they've even said there is no replacement for BTS. She is on some good drugs....
Lol i live in korea. Kpop isnt kpop, its more like idol music who are geared towards more younger and foreign audiences. Yes there are some older fans but its not common place. The expert isnt well informed about anything and its very nuts to go on any platform and say youre a journalist or an expert in anything.

I think you misunderstand generic lyrics and nonsense lyrics. These two are not the same. Dynamite and butter still have a message. They aren’t made up incomprehensible sounds which are very common in kpop.
Dynamite is talking about someone being cool and confident and having a great time
Butter is something similar, also focused about being cool and flirty. They may not have a deep message but they aren’t nonsense lyrics
Nonsense lyrics are rather badabing badaboom, ring ding dong 3x, ratatatata and all that nonsense kpop is fond of
