Johnny, you can see a draft projection in the player info screen when looking at prospects. It will say 1st round, 2nd round, etc. It's next to their name, height, weight, etc. If you scout that area more and more, the better players get looked at more, and their potential will become more accurate, until it has a little check mark next to their name in your watch list.

What I have figured out is that if you move Matthews down to the second, it will make the player want to prove himself and therefore make him grow. Even though this might hurt morale if you put Matthews on the second line with someone he has good chemistry with, he won't get mad
All I honestly want to say about the trades is do not trade away Komarov! He's a guy for every type of line. He can play 4th line, 1st line, penalty kill, powerplay. He's the kinda guy that's more valuable than you'd actually think! He gets the other team aggravated with his playstyle and makes everyone else's job much easier.

On the scouting screen if you sort the potential twice it will bring you to players that have been scouted very well by the scouts, its where good players usually end up being because the game knows you want to scout them and is a good way to find better players in later rounds (top 9 forward in rounds 4-6 are rare and can be found by good scouting)

Johnny, the potential before players are drafted is different from when they get drafted. If a player is a high Top 6 or High Top 9 they will turn into an elite when they get drafted

Not sure if you figured this out or not but to sort by projected draft rank you just go to scouting - scouted players - add players to watchlist. From there you can sort by projected rank of the players you have scouted.
Don't trade for picks, you could make the playoffs if your team goes on a streak. After the season is over, trade for picks for players who are under performing. So, let them run how it is. No trading till the offseason. Like so Johnny sees.
The scouted players screen you are looking for that shows them as a list is only available IN FULL on draft day under the Scouted Players option. Even then, they only give you the projected placement by round (Top 5, Top 10, 1st, 1st/2nd, 2nd, etc.) Most of the time, but not always, the computer will draft in order off that list, very rarely (if at all?) will a CPU team draft for need.You can see a players projected placement during the season from the prospects in region screen, however, you cannot sort by projection, just by potential (and that will be based on your scouting). To identify the draft position look at their picture, the info is right above their height. Total pain in the butt to find who is projected top 10, but it is worth checking each region before the season starts to get a good idea of where you need to scout... sometimes those projections change, so a reassessment at the All Star break may be a good idea if you just want to scout the top 10 players... If you don't care, because you are not being cheesy and trading up for top 10 picks every year, just scout everyone equally as best you can based on what you need (Forward or Defense) and years when there are multiple Goalies available to scout dedicate a little time to them as well, otherwise skip them.
Give the guys you want to grow on your AHL team A and C. It gives them a moral boost, and it helps them to grow I think. Worked on NHL 16 atleast and doesnt hurt to try

Johnny don't tank, you already have a really good prospect pool. In the main time trade for at least 2 low valued top 6 forward that can be ditched once your prospects grow. Keep in mind that losing games can hurt player moral (as seen in the Buffalo GM series).
Johnny for finding those top prospects you have to look through the whole league in the first few years it's a hassle but after like 3-4 years when there's like 30-45 prospects a league it becomes really easy
Hey Johnny, scouting is similar to old gen its just instead of the stars its the top 6, elite, etc. One thing I noticed you haven't looked at much is the when a player's potential on the scouting/drafting screen is white. It's just like old gen where that basically means exact. You should always check it out because thats where you can get a lot of steals. There was one guy that was Top 6 Forward exact potential when you were going through the scouted players screen early in the vid.
I very much agree with the Brown trade. But, acquiring a LW Sniper should be a priority as well, your best LW Prospect is I believe Rychel or Timashov. Loving the uploads!

How to handle scouting? Well if it's the same as 16, which it seems to be in my Franchise mode, then completely fucking ignore it. It's a broken ass game mechanic. When it comes to drafting, just pick the ones predicted to go first. Maybe change it up a little depending on what you need.
When you discuss 2nd and 3rd line centers. Nick bugstad has been a stud for me since nhl 15, maybe it's not wholly realistic, but i though I'd throw the name out there
Go after Logan brown! He could be the perfect 3 line center, or maybe even 2nd if he gets good. There's really no downside to the trade if you do michalek and a 3rd or something. As long as you only get rid of one guy someone likes, it won't affect him too much. As long as you don't pull a Rangers by trading away everyone Zuc likes to make him sad it'll be fine
it doesn't happen until closer to the end of the season but if you push down on r3. it tells you top players in the draft and where they are playing. somewhere in there.

Hintz seems like good value! And Brown makes too much sense you should go after him. Also You don't necessarily have to throw the season, you could trade the old guys (Laich, Lupul, Michalek, Polak) and you can maybe use some of your picks or picks you get in the trades to get a righty D to help the team down the stretch
To see a prospects ranking, go into your watchlist - it shows player's expected draft position (Top 5, 1st Round, etc. like in previous versions of the game). Personally, I think EA butchered the scouting process. Why they bury rankings in Watch List is beyond me. And once the season ends you can't see any prospects, on your Watch List or not. Crazy. Btw, my scout(s) spent nearly 2 months scouting OHL forwards and only a few had "high" confidence in their projections... Is there any way to level up your scouts, hire/fire or improve them in any way?

Just scout all around the leagues for 2 weeks at a time. It uncovers a lot more players and lets you get steals in the late rounds.

How to handle scouting?
Well if it's the same as 16, which it seems to be in my Franchise mode, then completely fucking ignore it.
It's a broken ass game mechanic. When it comes to drafting, just pick the ones predicted to go first. Maybe change it up a little depending on what you need.

When you discuss 2nd and 3rd line centers. Nick bugstad has been a stud for me since nhl 15, maybe it's not wholly realistic, but i though I'd throw the name out there

Go after Logan brown! He could be the perfect 3 line center, or maybe even 2nd if he gets good. There's really no downside to the trade if you do michalek and a 3rd or something. As long as you only get rid of one guy someone likes, it won't affect him too much. As long as you don't pull a Rangers by trading away everyone Zuc likes to make him sad it'll be fine
it doesn't happen until closer to the end of the season but if you push down on r3. it tells you top players in the draft and where they are playing. somewhere in there.

johnny if you want more accurate predictions on right handed defenceman from the OHL, keep scouting it over and over again and they will gain more knowledge on the players
Go to scouted players and the add players to watch list that will show you players that you have scouted and where their projected to go like top 5 top 10 etc.

Hintz seems like good value! And Brown makes too much sense you should go after him. Also You don't necessarily have to throw the season, you could trade the old guys (Laich, Lupul, Michalek, Polak) and you can maybe use some of your picks or picks you get in the trades to get a righty D to help the team down the stretch
To see a prospects ranking, go into your watchlist - it shows player's expected draft position (Top 5, 1st Round, etc. like in previous versions of the game). Personally, I think EA butchered the scouting process. Why they bury rankings in Watch List is beyond me. And once the season ends you can't see any prospects, on your Watch List or not. Crazy.
Btw, my scout(s) spent nearly 2 months scouting OHL forwards and only a few had "high" confidence in their projections... Is there any way to level up your scouts, hire/fire or improve them in any way?
