  • Hey Guys. Today I’m changing the fuel filters on a Case IH 685 Tractor. I do a step by step as well as how to bleed the filters.

    Awesome IH channel, tired of all the channels pumping out John Deere videos like they’re part of a cult. Good quality content, thanks for that, nice work.

      Haha, yea I guess that’s one of a few reasons why I started making videos. Not much selection in IH. Some channels have them, but you probably won’t see too much green here. Thanks!

    I'm so glad I found your video, we have an IH 474 with fuel issues

    Hey! Just seen this video and I can say one thing for sure: If you ever have two filters in series like that, one is always different than the other, or at least it should be. And if it isn’t, take advantage of it and have the second filter about 10x smaller sieve than then first filter and you can have better filtration performance. Fuel/water separators like that first guy said would be a good idea as a rule of finger-after-thumb for outdoor equipment like tractors. Anyways, Great video! Helped me out a lot with my 485! Thanks.

    I wish I had the glass bowl filters because the Wix spin on filters are $25 ea. at the local parts store in Charleston vs $5-6 for the bowl style. Even from rockauto those Wix are $14+ and shipping. I had fuel issues from the tractor sitting 25 years and @ $25 each it sucked. Also the engineer that designed the fuel line from the tank to the filter that goes up, down, makes a couple loops round & round should have been hung in the town square. I had a problem with that line numerous times until I was able to clean out the tank. Excellent vid again.

    Useful video for me bc I have to change them too for the first time ,bought that tractor middle of last summer ,must be older than yours filters are on the other side ,under the frame of loader ,not as easy as yours to service .

    I thought I saw a fleetguard filter book in your toolbox when you showed it in one of your videos if you have one it should tell you what ones go on your tractor. I have a 3088 with what appears to be the same filter base ant it takes a ff214 and a ff215.

      Good eye, that’s actually a lubricant book with the capacities. I did have a filter book at one time.

    Everyone will do what’s best for them. But personally for me, when I’m replacing the the fuel filter, I’ll actually fill it up completely with Seafoam, not diesel, then install. Shortly after you fire it up, it will be running 100% on Seafoam, no diesel. After letting her run for a bit, I shut it off and let that Seafoam soak the injectors/cylinders for 10-30 minutes. Then I’ll fire it up again and run it hard. Cleans her up nice

    Diesel is so damn dirty. On 685 4wd loses power every once in a while I had to disconnect both ends fuel lines (tank to filters) i had blow it through with air to get it unclogged. I just changed the fuel filters last month. bought carquest filters from advanced auto store which is 2 miles away. beats going to a dealer 20 miles away.

      Yea I get very fussy with Fuel. I change filters often, the fuel I put in gets filtered twice. Also I always put additive in year round

    The only difference I noticed between the old filters and the new filters is on the old set, one was a fuel filter and one was a fuel/water separator. The new filters were both fuel filters. Not sure if that matters, as I do not know the performance difference between a fuel filter and a fuel/water separator. Hope they work out! By the way, I have to rub it in just a little that we did not get any snow from the current storm lol

      Well, if it makes you feel any better, we still have over 8" left from the last few storms.

      PA Farms I hope your weather forecast is more accurate than ours was last week. Here in Erie last week they said 3-6 and up to 9 locally and we got over 15

    • @PAFarms
      @PAFarms  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea the glass filters are tougher to change. I have a additive that treats the fuel for different stuff. I can show it in a video

    Think mine is an early 685 ,more like the 684 ,see they are on the same side as mine.I can't see the serial no plate it is under the loader frame .

      Ok, I was on tractor house and saw a 585 that has the fuel filters next to the oil filter on the right side. It was a 1985 model, I’m wondering if they made a change. Mine is an ‘89
