If you choose a job as a teacher, then you should already be aware that you are supposed to make sure that all students feel accepted. A teacher isn't supposed to question the students' legal life choices; a teacher is supposed to focus on teaching, and on keeping things in good order, and this does in fact include making sure that all students feel safe and welcome. A teacher who lacks those skills is an incompetent teacher.

Gender dysphoria is a real medical diagnosis which says that a transgender person experiences a very real and persistent discomfort with his/her birth sex, and this discomfort is alleviated by letting them have a transition, and this also includes respecting that they want people to use pronouns of the opposite sex in front of them (which are a simple "HE" or "SHE", not some crap like "supreme leader of the universe", like the unreasonable conservatives always come up with). It is extremely easy to respect this preference, if you aren't utterly hopeless and completely unable to make some minimal effort for the sake of other people. Religion itself is a flawed reason to justify biological pronouns use. Religion is after all unreliable and filled with contradictions and inconsistencies. It's not used singularly in instances when it's obvious a person is male or female. Transgender individuals typically have a sex transition because they have felt very uncomfortable with their biological se their whole lives, and it just causes completely unnecessary damage if a teacher insists on calling them by their biological sex, and this can count as a form of harassment and even bullying if it continues for a long time, because it is basically just one way to say "I don't accept you as a person". It is like a more extreme version of insisting on using a certain nickname for someone, even though that nickname clearly maks that person very uncomfortable. If I were a teacher - and I do plan to become a math teacher in the future - and a transgender student informed me about his/her preferred pronouns, then I would simply acknowledge that person's desires and respond "okay", and that would be it; it really doesn't have to be any more complicated than that. If you are so unreasonable and disagreeable that you cannot even respect something as simple as that, then you honestly don't have what it takes to be a teacher in the first place, because a job as a teacher is about more than just teaching; it is also about making sure that the students don't feel bad for unjust reasons, and being supportive of them - sometimes even about things that aren't actually related to studies. Gender dysphoria is a real medical diagnosis which says that a transgender person experiences a very real and persistent discomfort with his/her birth sex, and this discomfort is alleviated by letting them have a transition, and this also includes respecting that they want people to use pronouns of the opposite sex in front of them
(which are a simple "HE" or "SHE", not some crap like "supreme leader of the universe", like the unreasonable conservatives always come up with).
It is extremely easy to respect this preference, if you aren't utterly hopeless and completely unable to make some minimal effort for the sake of other people.
And the teacher in this video should have _already known_ what the policies at his school were saying, so if he then decides to break those policies then he deserved to get fired;
nobody forced him to choose that job, he chose it himself, and this means that he is obliged to follow the rules there, which include treating students with respect and not causing harm to them in any way - _yes,_ a teacher _does_ in fact have that responsibility, because a teacher has no right to make his/her students feel uncomfortable and attacked.

If you get told to stop doing something to another person you are forced to be around and you don't, that's harassment. Second, harassment based off of faith is shitty to those who don't share your beliefs. Also, being told to not discriminate against a minority is not "bowing down to them." Trans people already have to deal with wackos like this obnoxiously teacher here and other folks who may do more than just harassment. Also, some biological women can come off as androgynous or even masculine, so sometimes people need a reminder.

I have never heard of any respectable teachers who have acted that way towards their students - that is very immature and irresponsible behaviour from a teacher.

Religion itself is a flawed reason to justify biological pronouns use. Religion is after all unreliable and filled with contradictions and inconsistencies. It's ironic that a person would use religion to justify biology. Free speech is a solid reason to refuse using preferred pronouns. I think of myself as a God which is fine, but to demand everyone else to call me God or messiah is just ridiculous to put it mildly.
A person who say: “ I’m a woman trapped in a man’s body.” Is holding onto a religious belief.

Persistent misgendering of a transgender student _is_ a form of bullying, because it causes distress and discomfort for that student.

Why should someone be punished for not wanting to participate in this game of make believe? A student prefers to be called a pronoun of the opposite sex but the teacher prefers not to engage. So why should the teacher's preference be the one to get ignored? So should we have to rewrite the whole english book and confuse everyone so someone can be addressed how he or she wants. Its a fact that "they and them" is plural and not singular.
School “policy” does not trump 1st amendment. Also, as long as you are getting government money you will abide by 1st amendment.

Furthermore, even if the child was born male (for an example) it's none of the teachers business what is between the child's legs and unless they have performed a biological test who are they to know what gender the person is to begin with!?! It's not used singularly in instances when it's obvious a person is male or female. A teacher has a responsibility to make sure that the students feel accepted, and this includes respecting how they want to be called.
Transgender individuals typically have a sex transition because they have felt very uncomfortable with their biological se their whole lives, and it just causes completely unnecessary damage if a teacher insists on calling them by their biological sex, and this can count as a form of harassment and even bullying if it continues for a long time, because it is basically just one way to say "I don't accept you as a person".
It is like a more extreme version of insisting on using a certain nickname for someone, even though that nickname clearly maks that person very uncomfortable.
If I were a teacher - and I do plan to become a math teacher in the future - and a transgender student informed me about his/her preferred pronouns, then I would simply acknowledge that person's desires and respond "okay", and that would be it;
it really doesn't have to be any more complicated than that.
If you are so unreasonable and disagreeable that you cannot even respect something as simple as that, then you honestly don't have what it takes to be a teacher in the first place, because a job as a teacher is about more than just teaching;
it is also about making sure that the students don't feel bad for unjust reasons, and being supportive of them - sometimes even about things that aren't actually related to studies.
And I am saying this as a so-called "privileged" straight white man;
it's not just members of the LGBT community who are against this kind of treatment of transgender students.
