Kenny Rogers, Glenn Campbell and Dolly Parton are the forefront of the Pop Country sound and Country/Rock Billboard Chart crossover.

Mel Tillis wrote this originally about a second war veteran. At that time, this was considered folk rock genre.

You're incorrect. WWII was not an Asian war - it didn't start nor was limited to Asia, Korea and Viet Nam were.

Somethings Burning, when he was First Edition is a good one! I love Lady. Lionel Ritchie wrote this one.

The song came out in 1969, so it is naturally associated with the Vietnam War, "that old crazy Asian war." However, it could be any war with disabled veterans. Man, this song reminds me of Houston honkey tonks in the 70s.

The same happened to a Cpl in our unit. He lost both legs and one eye and was paralyzed from the waist down. He spent almost a year fighting for his life and going through rehab in a Naval Hospital. When he finally got to go home his wife rejected him. He committed suicide.

Wow this takes me back. I didn't appreciate a lot of this great music when I was young. But as I got older and deeper into music I really started loving the story telling and melodies. Thanks Biz. This is a great very sad song... makes an old veteran like me think ....

Hi, Biz. My mom's name was Ruby, she loved this song, my dad played a guitar and did this song I used to sing with him, he did a lot of Hank Williams songs . My mother loved music all kinds. When she'd put radio on country we'd howl and whine, she'd say , " do you want me to turn it off? We'd say , no

@BizMatik I gotta say this one time…. I have watched a lot of reaction videos and I will have to say that I really like the way you break things down and how you understand the meaning of a lot of the songs that you react to. I am a 55-year-old white guy living in the south ( North Georgia ), but I lived up by Lake Erie in Ohio until I became an adult…. In my young days, all my friends were listening to the rock groups of the 80s, but so was I. And some were listening to the country groups of the 80s, and so was I. But, no one was listening to the real old country music and I would be 14 years old around old men ( about the age I am now LOL ), and they were always surprised that I would know country music from way way back, like in the 40s and 50s. But, then I would also listen to very old school rap artists like UTFO, RUN DMC, Heavy D, The Fat Boys, etc…. And all of my white friends could not believe that I would know every word to all of their songs. My point is, I never labeled music. If it was good, and I enjoyed it, then I listened to it. I would listen to everything from Grandpa Jones from the TV series HeeHaw to Slick Rick, to Metallica to Bread to AC/DC to Eminem, etc…. As I have watched a lot of reaction videos, it is so good to see the white community, discovering rap and black artists and old blues, and then the black community, discovering country, music, new and old, disco, and every genre in between. The media would have us believe that we are all separated by our lineage or the color of our skin or our culture. But the more that I watch videos like yours, the more I realize that we are all one race. The human race. And music plays a big part, in fact, a huge part into bringing us all together. Of all of the reaction video channels that I have watched, yours is absolutely one of the best. I would love to support you monetarily, but since I am way far from well off, and barely making it, I will support you by networking and letting people know about your channel. You are first class. Top-notch. Great job man.

He said that he understood the wants and needs of a woman her age so I believe that he just wanted her to spend some time with him before he died and he understood that she was seeing other men.

When I was a teenager, "country" music was way down on my playlist, generally wouldn't go anywhere near it. Tended to agree with the Billy Connolly line that all country songs contained at least one of "trains, divorces, trucks and family tragedy". No idea what it was about this song, but it really hit the spot with me. Years and years since I heard it, I can appreciate the words so much more nowadays.

This was when Kenny was considered Rock. The First Edition was a Rock band. Country Rock if you have to say country. When they split up, Kenny went country, and I lost interest. The First Edition had some great songs. I Just Dropped In, Rubin James, Heed the Call, Something's Burning....
The wounded vet in this is very distraught. I doubt he would kill Ruby. If he could move, he could probably stop her, but he is most likely a little shell shocked too.
