    Thanks y’all, I went through two of these dookie bakflip hardcover / revolver covers.
    and I’m back where I started.
    Researching the same cover I was planning on buying in the first place.
    I’m getting this one, thanks for your post.
    Great video, very well laid out and you shared everything that I feel we needed to know. Good looks, have a nice day

    Silicone spray works good on the seal

  • @byammine
    @byammine 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Diamondback recommends using exterior plastic protectants on the seal and top bed rail to help stop it from freezing together. I like using CarPro Perl diluted with water 1:1 on the plastic rail and seal and it does a pretty good job. Every month or so In the winter I reapply to keep it from freezing bad

    I bought my Ram used (5 years old) and it had a BakFlip F1 installed that was completely worn out. I was pricing new ones and almost bought BakFlip MX4 for $1200. I then discovered the Diamondback cover and did a lot of research. I ended up finding a lightly used Diamondback SE for $800. The build quality is far superior when compared to the BakFlip. I'm so glad I went with the Diamondback, especially getting one for half price.

    • @thekevincornell
      @thekevincornell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      When I’ve moved things and folded it over like in the video, I’ll strap the top piece down using the anchor cleats. Or, I’ll just lift off the back and put it in the garage until I’m done hauling. Both options work well.

  • @EVDOsmurf
    @EVDOsmurf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Take some WD-40 and apply it to the weatherstrip layer between the cover and the bed plastic where it sandwiches. This will prevent freezing. You can also do this to all door weather strips to prevent doors freezing shut.

      @@fishermanshane4658 I’ve never ever had WD-40 freeze on me, and I’ve done this numerous times in -10 degree weather here in Chicago. Also, don’t apply WD-40 when it’s freezing outside, apply it every 2-3 months throughout the year during summer and spring….the rubber absorbs it and when winter rolls around, you’re golden!

    I enjoyed your video...I'm considering this cover for my 2022 F-150 Supercrew shortbed. I'm a little concerned about how that extra front gasket will adhere to the spray-in bedliner of my truck. I’ve tightened the clamps a few times bc I’ve taken everything apart multiple times. The locking poles only twice. After the gasket sealed itself I applied more Force to to the cover to get a tighter seal. It holds pretty nicely.

    Based on your experience with the SE what are you thoughts on the pros/cons between the smooth finish vs the diamond finish? They sent me the non-smooth by mistake so I'm half looking for excuses to keep it versus having to wait for the exchange lol.

    • @thekevincornell
      @thekevincornell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn’t even know they had a smooth, so I hopped on their site to check it out. Looks cool! Here’s my two cents: I really like the look of the diamondback and because it’s not perfectly smooth, if I get a small ding or scratch, I really won’t notice it. I love mine and don’t think I’d ever want a smooth one. Just my preference.

    Hey, I noticed I have the same truck and spray truck bed as you. I
    havn't bought the diamondback cover yet but I do want one. My concern is
    where the locking rod is at the cab end of the cover. Did you have to
    drill a hole for the rod to go in or did it clear the spray cover? Cause
    I didn't know since there is a several inches on each corner that
    sticks out where the rod wouldn't be able to lock under the bed edge

    • @thekevincornell
      @thekevincornell  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question. No, I didn't have to drill anything at all. The rods actually hangs under the lip of the truck bed. Plus, there are hangers that are installed on the diamondback to get a good adjusted tight fit. Hope it helps. Consider subbing.

    NOTHING you buy for a truck is ever 100% safe, but compared to the flimsy tri-folds and soft tonneaus these things are tanks. Same goes for water, nothing is 100% waterproof. This is just the problem with owning trucks. I guess though people nowadays are just too spoiled and expect everything to be perfect for them which isn't the case lol.
