    Rick - thanks for sharing your review of the Renegade cover. Don't mean to hijack your experience, but wanted to share mine here since you have a good audience. I bought mine in April 2021 after weeks of research and comparisons with the DiamondBack. In fact, I hadn't heard of Renegade until I started researching the DiamondBack! Like you, it took a while to get it; close to 4 months or more at the time. I have noticed an improvement in communications since then, but it wasn't hard to improve from dismal. Like you, I received the wrong hardware (2017+ Ford bracket for a 2013 Super Duty). They were quick to resolve that. Since using the cover for almost a year, I can tell you that it has not held up to half of the marketed use-cases; it often goes out of alignment after running on gravel roads, not to mention "overlanding". Just this weekend, after camping and running it in it's folded state, the middle panel came out of alignment and it no longer will close properly. It has gotten to the point of worrying if the cover is going to fail me out in the field by not opening or closing properly when I need it. To say I've been disappointed is an understatement. So, you're not alone in your assessment and I caution others who might be on the fence to really do the best research they can on the options available to them. I'll be reaching out to Renegade first thing tomorrow, also, and hope to find an alternative rather than sending it to the recyclers.

      Have you found the issues wrong with the diamondbackhd? I don't care about the leaks around the sides weather stripping can fix that and just have more weight on top when you install it.

      @@---tx9xx To follow up on this...
      Renegade returned my calls and gave me some advice on shifting the panels back into place. After describing another issue with the torsion bar (for dual latch operation), they sent out some aluminum shims to help get the rails sitting properly to actually engage the gears. However, I find it much easier to simply pull the handle on both sides rather than deal with a torsion bar that may not work 100% of the time.
      Fast forward to now... I find myself cursing every time I use the bed of the truck, as more often than not one rail has fallen out of alignment and the pins get stuck, or the rod within the rail that engages the pin (to secure it) is bent in such a way that I can no longer lock that side without bending it back into place. Closing the lids too hard might result in the rails falling out of alignment and creating issues down the road.
      I'm hesitant to put any sort of load on top (even if it's secured), as the cover could accidentally be disengaged on any one or more corners due to the issues mentioned earlier, which could compromise its ability to stay in place with a load on top. One turn and the laws of physics could cause the cover to come off and the load with it.
      These are all issues that shouldn't really be issues given the price. To be honest, I think the steel bed (2013 F-350) is problematic given the lack of good mounting points for the rails. The new body style F-150 and Super Duty's are probably better off in that regard. I really dig the looks of the cover and its potential, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I should've gone with the DiamondBack.

After dealing with the poor communication and customer service with renegade, as well as no customer review any where in the internet, I decided to go with Diamond back for my 2022 tundra. I REALLY appreciate this video, Rick! I just purchased a 2024 GMC Sierra HD, and have been on the fence with Renegade for months. Their limited online information and questionable customer service response and lead times have given me pause, but your honest and thorough review have convinced me to go with Diamondback. I've previously had two Diamondback SEs on two different trucks that I've owned. The main appeal of the Renegade was the implied ease of complete removal of the cover, versus the headache with the Diamondback SE of having to remove the front and back flip-up sections, then use tools to remove the center section and carefully reinstall it in the same location. Long story short, I decided to order the new Diamondback Switchback, which appears to be their answer to the Renegade. Granted it's a new and unproven design, but at least I know that I have the excellent customer service of Diamondback, should I need it. Thanks again!

      @@DAT_GUY303 Yes, I just haven't had time to do a video. I installed it myself with no issues, and have been really happy with it. I really like the fact that I can fold the back most section (and even the back and middle section) and drive without having to worry about removing the rear most section like I did with the SE that I had previously. I haven't removed the entire cover yet, but it will definitely be a two person job. The cover lets a bit of water in when it rains (just like the SE), but not enough to be a major concern. I'm glad that I went for the Switchback versus another SE or the Renegade.

Just found the Renegade comparison to Diamondback. TBH…I didn’t know they(Diamondbacks )had a competitor in weight carrier covers. I was excited, and love the non- protruding locks and tie downs on the Renegade…but keeping out water and dust is FUNDAMENTAL when making a purchase of this cost for a bed cover. The diamondback has performed perfect. Only complaint would be the opposite, it’s so weather tight I have a hard time opening it with a slight wet freeze… good luck

    Thanks for the review . Owned a diamond back going on two years, and my only complaint is that I am too rough on the hydraulic strusts, as I have broken the ends of the arms on the hydraulic struts. Diamondback has sent them with a no questions asked warranty and usually receive replacements the same week. Last time they sent me a spare , apparently I am the only one complaining of it and they want to be proactive.. I am currently looking at the renegade because we are planning on purchasing a fifth wheel/gooseneck RV and the diamondback would be more of a pain to remove when need to used 5th wheel. Diamond back is not 100 % water proof, I would say 90%. Leaks a bit on sides as the gaskets hold water depending on parking angle. No water above cargo though.

    • @---tx9xx
      @---tx9xx ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks, hard to tell with these things as some people report the diamondback is 100% waterproof and a variecing of fu or two of the renegade made by them if they say that it's also 100% waterproof which truck models you have? maybe depends on installation?

    • @reelamor9950
      @reelamor9950 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@---tx9xx I have a 2018 Titan and a 2015 f150. I would say the diamond is the closest thing to water proof I have seen. I said 90 %, but probably close to 97%. Literally a few drips down the side of the bed ans I should have said this happens when you open it due to the gaskets holding water inside . If the you sealed off the end of the gaskets, it probably would not happen.

    I was going to buy it but the shipping cost and lead time killed it. Imagine you need a part or claim warranty, how long that’s gonna take for you to get a replacement. On the forum I heard one guy waited 8 month for the cover. I went with diamondback HD, no regrets, no leaks, came with extra seals, lifetime warranty, holds 1600lbs, also made in US, free shipping, cheaper, tons of accessories, especially the bins, they are great. It’s been over a year now since I got my cover from diamondback. I’m surprised to see renegade is still in business due to the lack of communication,customer service, lead time and shipping cost.

    • @---tx9xx
      @---tx9xx ปีที่แล้ว

      True but a huge difference between him is the fact that for the diamondback you need cheese whereas the renegade just locks with your tailgate and doesn't require to haul her out yet another extra set of keys also it's flat on top which I think is a big advantage also it appears to remove by just pulling a lever completely rather than disassembling it

    • @---tx9xx
      @---tx9xx ปีที่แล้ว

      By the way, how do you like the bins? I haven't been able to find anyone in real life who has one. They move around? Do you think they could be used also without the diamondback cover?

    Appreciate your honest review. We too have been waiting since last year (OCT). Communication not good at all. So sad, we went to love the cover too! Hope ours doesn’t leak and they sent the proper hardware. Ours is here in town waiting delivery….-Sadly, Renegade never notified us that it shipped:( ( even with their supposed improved customer service efforts) ALSO, I think it is terrible business practice that they ask for full payment ahead of shipment when you have customers waiting more than six months for delivery.

    Renegade's website says 90% waterproof. What does that even mean? If it is leaking...it is leaking.

    I bought my renegade before this review was made and i had a very similar experience. Took 4 times longer than was promised. I was also sent the wrong hardware, they did over night me some new brackets, that i still had to modify to make work. The directions were horrible, it took over 2 weeks to get it on and operating correctly. Now i have had it for over 4 years now. Im still not impressed, it leaks water horribly, shifts out of place on gravel roads, and if you secure a load on top of it( 4 wheeler)the upwards pressure of the tie down pops the corners up and unsecured the load as well as bending the slide latch mechanism. Its pretty much worthless. It does look good though 😂 i still get comments on it. BTW i purchased a diamondback for my wifes truck and it has performed flawless. Lesson learned.

    Add me to the list of folks researching who are now opting for the Diamondback over the Renegade. Renegade, if you are reading monitoring these comments I see that you have lost out on at least a few hundred thousand dollars in sales all because you failed to provide adequate customer service to a paying customer. A tad more effort, would have made you a lot more money. Damn shame too, because I like the Renegade more, but with an investment at that price point - you can't beat quality and customer service.

      I hope you have better luck. One thing I will tell you is that the cover seems a tad small for our truck. You will also have to ditch the fold out handle if yours has the multi pro tailgate. It wasn’t until I talked to diamondback that I learned that renegade makes a handful of sizes that work on several different models. So our 6’ 10” bed may be getting the same cover as let’s say a 6’ 8” bed. It also is not tapered so the reveal will look different from front to back. I did get a diamondback and plan to do a comparison review. There are things with it I’m not crazy about but the company seems top notch. Everything was so easy and I got it in 11 days. Good luck to you!

    • @ryancrookham2788
      @ryancrookham2788 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rickdailey9179 I appreciate all the info. I have the multi pro gate but don't use the handle so that's not a big deal. If it doesn't fit correctly though then that will be a problem. One good thing is that I'm only eight hours from Renegade so I am having them install it, which is free if you bring your truck to them. I look forward to your comparison, the diamond back was too attention grabbing for me. I want to attract as little attention as possible but if it's not going to do what intended then diamond back is the only other brand in the game that I know of.

    • @ryancrookham2788
      @ryancrookham2788 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Justin I can finally reply to this. I had my cover installed on Monday. That's after almost 10 months of waiting. My cover does not leak at all between the sections but seals on the end corners and between the cover and tailgate do leak. The bed rails are different heights and tailgate sits lower than the rails so there is not much Renegade can do for that. I am going to remove the plastic caps and shim under them to seal it up. The build quality is very nice and I'm happy with it overall. Would be nice if they made the seal track bolt in so it could be shimmed. That would surely raise the sale price. I have seen diamond back covers on trucks in my travels and I prefer this cover hands down over the diamondback.
