thanks again for this wonderful film , these were the days when we , as kids growing up in Montreal, never wondered IF the Canadiens would win, but rather by HOW MUCH they would win .... glorious days of our youth, when Guy Lafleur was KING ! 🙂
I went to Howie Meeker's Hockey school in Parksville British Columbia... while playing in Nanaimo with the Clippers Bantam 'AA' Rep team this brings back some great memories... It was a full on all inclusive comprehensive hockey school. Some pretty elite teachers in guys like Bernie Parent, Guy Lafleur, Alfie Turcotte and more...
This sure brings back a lot of great hockey memories for me. Back in the '70s as a young guy, I was a fanatic Montreal Canadiens fan. I knew all the players, watched every game, and still think they were the greatest hockey team of all time. None was more prominent than Guy Lafleur, whom I saw play live several times. Watching "the Flower" skating down the ice with his hair in the wind, and witnessing his great speed and finesse is something I'm privileged to have experienced.
for two weeks each on two consecutive summers, i attended camps where howie was one of the instructors ( st andrew's, NB ). i sucked and had no opportunity yet to play for a town team, but those camps got me over the hump and i made a team. i slept at nights with my jersey on for a week. my town had a top program and i ended up playing for some league and state championship teams, competing against the top teams and players in massachusetts. i played junior and college and even got to play in europe. it was great fun and i have the best memories. hockey was a life changer for me. thanks, howie ! honestly, i would not have made it without his help.
Guy Lafleur in Flyers colors! In 1975 that would be sacrilege. Back in the NHL on NBC days, NBC had a broadcasting team of Tim Ryan, Ted Lindsay, Brian MacFarlane and Howie Meeker. An all-Canadian broadcast booth on American TV, but they were great. Fun days. And those kids out there were pretty darned good.
This is amazing, nice share. I remember watching a kid teaching Howie to kick the puck up from his back skate to his stick and it took forever to get right. Good on him leaving that part in, hah.
Now there's a name I haven't heard of in an eternity! I used to hang out at my North Vancouver BC Woolco store to play the Commodore 64 display computers in the electronics department. 82/83 I think it was. I remember playing C64 games and listening to Bob Marley (who had recently died the year before) and Julio Eglisias tunes. The regular contingent of us hanging out there should have got commissions for the number of C64 consoles we must have sold!
Also the Flyers jersey colours represented the Nanaimo Clippers BCJHL jersey which were similar to Flyers Jerseys and the local major junior team prior to Parksville gaining the Cougars.
I'm embarassed to say as an almost 50 year old beer leaguer, that I am learning from this video lol.. hell, I'm learning from the kids in this video. Gotta try some of this out next game... then default to the usual 3 things I do :D.
Howie was awesome! Kind of a milder dressed down version of Don Cherry. I revered his criticism of flop down goalies. "There goes (such and such) looking for nickels and dimes" he used to say. I still believe in standup goaltending despite its abandonment for years and years within the NHL. I've seen enough pucks fly past goalies who couldn't get up off their knees in time to hate this modern style.
Howie's feedback should have simply been, "take what they give you." If the defenseman is too deep, then shoot, etc....Guy got schooled a little by a well positioned defenseman. It's very difficult to beat a highly skilled player one on one. You rarely witness it at the highest level.
I got that exact same Adidas track suit in the 9th grade. Unfortunately, I got tagged with "Howie Meeker" as a moniker shortly afterwards. Frankly, I was not amused.
I love the fact that 1) guy did every drill 100% . Why? Cause F that 12 year old. That’s why 2) Same 12 year old wearing no face mask & & giant tampon instead of a helmet
Pointless comment. And false. Rod laver would not be top 100 on tennis, dick Butkus would not make the bears team, gretZky would not make the Oilers, Mickey Mantle could not find a job in baseball, Arnold would not be top 50 in Mr Olympia. Of course they would, and they would dominate. Because they would have equal equipment as the modern players, equal knowledge, equal preparation and practice, equal diet and nutrition and supplements, equal training, equal opportunities, but still they would dominate 99% of them because all these guys had exceptional talent and attributes, competitiveness, poise under pressure, drive to be the best, determination and ambition. They would be great in any era. By the way Lafleur was one of the best skaters in the world , if not the best at his prime, Orr been retired, and he had one of the best shot of his generation.

Nous avons eu une belle enfance !🎉❤
Yes!
Wow. Nice to see Guy teaching the kids and speaking to them like he was just one of them. No ego. Still love to see Howie's enthusiasm too.
Guy loved his fans. Miss him...

Guy Lafleur. My favorite hockey player of all time.

Guy Lafleur was such fantastic hockey player and seemingly a nice man too !.

That's the first thing I was thinking, Flyer's get up? Must have been halloween!
Classic stuff here...thanks for the upload xtHabs789!

Howie Meeker screaming and yelling at pee wee hockey players on his week-end tv show, brings back memories
Howie Meeker still has a rookie record going all the way back to the 1940's. He as a rookie scored 5 goals in one game.
Game & score?
@Thomas-lg6jx
I'm sorry I don't remember that. But in one of my hockey books it mentioned Howie Meeker doing that achievement.
@@Thomas-lg6jxaccording to the internet, January 8, 1947, Meeker scored 5 goals in a game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
@mikecumbo7531 thank you sir....
Any idea who the Chicago goalie was?
@Thomas-lg6jx
Looking at Chicago's roster it was either Emile Francis (likely IMO) or Doug Jackson.🤔
They need to bring this back and Peter puck
Topgun. Guy Lafleur #1
I used to have one of those orange Howie Meeker Hockey School jerseys.
I had Howie Meeker running shoes bought at Woolco 😀 - Orange of course

The good ole days! Nanaimo??
Hated Guy as a kid for destroying my teams but as an adult i appreciate his genius
So nice !!! Thanks !
Great video! Many memories of minor hockey.
Also the Flyers jersey colours represented the Nanaimo Clippers BCJHL jersey which were similar to Flyers Jerseys and the local major junior team prior to Parksville gaining the Cougars.
At least that was my understanding
how good is this! bravo!
Guy such an incredibly smooth skater, going way faster than it looks. Paul Coffey comes to mind.

This was fun. They don't play hockey like that any more. Love how the goalies used the old trusted poke-check. A lost art!
Wowie HOWiE. We miss you

Prince of Wales Arena, St. John's, Newfoundland
"Great Hockey!" Meeker was anything but for his enthusiasm for the game.
These kids are now in their 60’s
This is 1975 not 1945... U high bruhhh??? Dangit!
50's I am one of them lol
@@v4v819 49 years has passed since this doc was shot
Legend and GOAT.
lafleur = in the top 10 G.O.A.T
Guy Lafleur is pretty good
I think he's taking it easy on the lads... Or he's drunk or hung over badly...
1:51 … Howie paused to reflect on tactics.
Did any NHL player ever attribute going to Howie Meekers Hockey School ?
This is so hilarious. Cmon ya dummies!
Today's youth would curl up in fetal position by how Howie Meeker is talking to them.😄
Can score with my hass!

je penses qu'il n'a pas marqué de but dans tout les exercise dans ce film
Hey McKinnon he was faster and more smooth than you'll ever be in 5 lifetimes!
1:50 Heheheh Guy
A 1970s dynasty, Montreal was .
When does Super Dave show up?
Holy jumpin! Playing like a dummy. Proven coaching technique.
" ya can't score with the boomer, fellas ! "
this is hilarious.
@gekko792003 fair enough. You’re not wrong. LOL
One on one is not a hockey play
Oh my god! Guy without equipment is blinding fast! By the way those kids are better than NHL players today!
These skills are outdated as the NHL has evolved, the players are bigger, faster, and much more skilled.
I love the fact that

Guy Lafleaur can barely skate. He wouldn’t even make the NHL now.
Give him a break he was smoking 2 packs and skating on leather and rust back then.

1:50 thats a little suggestive and inappropriate for a kids film there Guy
