My wife is a huuuuge EO fan from the Wii days and was so looking forward to Luminous. She couldn't have been more disappointed as to how this game came out.
Hey! I know you don’t necessarily like doing review videos, but I think you should do more, this is actually a really detailed and useful in-depth review. I have almost identical taste in games to you and love watching your ASMR game content. More reviews would be awesome. Anyway thanks for all the great work and for being like the only ASMR channel that covers the exact kind of games that I love!
i’m a _huge_ endless ocean fan - the hayley westenra soundtrack lives in my head rent free, yet to play luminous myself but i’m excited to hear your thoughts!
This is the kind of video to listen to while you play this game lol I'm a sucker, this is such a niche style of game to begin with but the last two were right up my alley, most especially Blue World. So I was stoked to hear that this franchise was coming back and thought to myself there's no way it could possibly be worse after 14 years But this game has exponentially less features than the last one. There's less actual gameplay, less interaction with the environment and the animals, There's nothing to do above water, you never actually go back to your headquarters, the custom aquarium is gone, any semblance of measurable progression is gone, and the procedurally generated environments are pretty uninteresting. This game feels like a tech demo, it's like an interactive screensaver, it's pretty much just a fishbowl to look at. There is at least a little bit of educational information each time you discover a new species, but it's mostly just a paragraph Certain staple sea life is also just conspicuously missing. How are there no seals or an octopus? I don't know I could keep going on, even if the game wanted to be more relaxed compared to Blue World (which I still didn't really think was All that challenging), That's fine, But it just stripped away so much of what they're actually was to do to keep the game engaging other than swim with fish. Hall of that being said, I am enough of a nerd for marine biology stuff that I still can find some enjoyment in it. I think if they had released this for like maybe $20 up to $30 and focused more on interaction between players for these multiplayer dives and just branded it as a spin-off of the series. It would be received better, and would probably be something pretty interesting and enjoyable. This game could make for a good kind of gaming hangout spot. Something where you could meet up with some friends or make some new ones and participate in something totally without pressure and expectations like competitive multiplayer games or more challenging cooperative games But even the multiplayer dives at this point don't really feel like they have much more than the single player dives other than people marking spots for you to go so that you can uncover more creatures quicker. But it feels a bit half-baked, as such the solo dives feel just a little more monotonous because you remove the only other new and interesting thing about the game which is other people. And then the story mode is just a joke. It's a pointless grind fest to listen to a basic AI text to speech bot say boring stuff to you So it's left with like three modes that just aren't that great instead of going for maybe one mode that is unique and interesting. So I don't know, I don't think it's worth $50 but I'm still going to play a fair share of it because there's so few things like it and I am that much of a nerd for the stuff. But anyone else who feels the same kind of way about wanting games like this, I still implore you to wait for a sale
Fantastic thoughts and exactly how I feel! It's a huge step back and let's be honest, a slap in the face to even casual Endless Ocean fans. I feel like I didn't discuss the price point enough because in today's gaming climate $50 is not unheard of and is a price I'm willing to pay for a quality game- which this is NOT. I feel very cheated paying $50 for an under-baked 'experience' rather than game that doesn't even live up to the original let alone the highly regarded sequel. I tried not to be too negative in this video (I'm even trying to play it still in my free time!) but I do feel very negative about it.
@@JubileeWhispers You covered a lot in the video. I think you did a good job. I'm playing it out of stubbornness basically lol. On one hand I want to feel like I got some time out of something I paid that much money for and on the other hand there's still just not really anything else like this game even if it's a strip down version of what it once was. I can only play Abzu so many times. So while I still get a simple enjoyment out of swimming around with ocean life, I'm never going to shake the overall feeling of being disappointed with the final product here I've played a couple of online dives and I've never seen a dive with more than five people at once. So I'm not even really that hopeful that they're going to bother keeping the game alive with updates if they can't even fill their own 30 person multiplayer lobbies
I mean, if you're looking for a cool game about fish with more to do, I recommend Abzū. It's incredibly detailed with the amount of environments and fish there are, it's very pretty to look at, and there's actually things to do in the game with a pretty good story to go along with it.
shocked i missed this video somehow, i lvoe this review style and in asmr form its like it was made specifically for me. DELIGHTFUL video, ive never played the game but i am enjoying hearing ur review anyway!!
This was exactly the type of review I was looking for haha. I was so excited to hear Blue World was part of your childhood like mine! For months I was eagerly waiting to play this game once I heard about its' release. I've been following updates on the Endless Ocean reddit and was really hoping it would revive aspects from Blue World, but it was a huge let down. This game could have been amazing, but it feels like a ocean scanning simulator worth MUCH less than $50. It reminds me of a mobile game... which is incredibly upsetting to me. The thing that made the first two Endless Ocean games so much fun were the stories, and I would love to know why they decided to not do more of that for Luminous. Basically all of their choices for Luminous make zero sense to me, but I guess they were wanting to make a game for new fans. I totally understand some people enjoy this laid-back type of game, which I respect! But I don't think this should have been lumped into the Endless Ocean saga. My heart hurts with you as we mourn what could have been. RIP Endless Ocean 😭
I TRIED not to get too hyped and excited but honestly I was like "all they have to do is make a similar experience to EO2 with modern graphics, a quirky but loveable cast of characters, music that nostalgically reminds us of the Hayley Westenra tracks, in a new setting with a simple but engaging story! It can't be that hard" .......I guess it was that hard
Not kidding you, before I bought the game, I was one of the most skeptical people out there hearing about the people that were apart of this VIP gameplay where they can get the game early on somehow and they said the game is terrible and I didn’t want to believe it. I bought the game, played it, felt excited, then I played it some more, and then the realization hit hard where yes….the bad reviews that I’ve been skeptical about, are all true, and no joke I cried for over an hour over it because I DEEPLY love the Endless ocean franchise, it even helped me cope with depression etc. And I had memories with someone in the family playing the game with me before he passed away…and I even devoted countless hours since I was 9 years old, playing both 1 & 2…and now, I ask Arika…WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO US?! 😭😭😭 I really hope the only reason they did this is to make a lot of money to make an actual better endless ocean game and not end the ocean with this 😢 I hope they aren’t ditching us and giving up, breaks my heart so badly 😭

This is my first time watching your channel, I looove this format and your voice in this one. If you ever DO decide to do more reviews (I know you said they’re not really your thing) I would so enjoy them
It’s very sad to see a franchise I love be brought back and then done so dirty. I really never thought I’d see a sequel but I honestly can’t tell if it was worth it which is one of the worst things I could say.
its crazy to think about how much of the ocean we still have left to explore, imagine all the animals we still have yet to see 🤩 thanks jubilee for the video and goodnight to all ❤❤ Edit: So uhm after listening to everything you said about the game and how everyone thinks how lame this game is, its actually so funny 😂 (not in a rude way)
I liked this new style of video! I never played the original endless ocean games but I can tell I would have loved them! This one definitely seems super empty and repetitive, like they didnt put much time into planning it out. The map system for the second game sounded perfect! I absolutely understand why people are disappointed with this one
I remember the trailer they showed at the end of a direct. And I was so confused cuz the game looked basic? Like oh explore the ocean, but games like Subnautica and Abzu looked better. As someone unfamiliar with the series, it's good to know that the Wii series was popular and that this version seems disappointing to many.
I loved Endless Ocean Blue World so much and I was so excited for Luminous. But when I finally got it, it felt like an absolute downgrade from Blue World. There’s no interactivity with creatures, no shore life, no aquarium mode, and it feels like a great big slot machine with how the map is randomly laid out and how randomly the UMLs appear.
Thank you for this very thorough and thoughtful review. I am actually upset about this downgrade from the last game. I don’t get excited about franchises often but this one had me hyped for what they would do next. The difference between EO1 and EO2 was huge and a lot of realism and fun was added for the sequel. This seems worse than the first game in most ways. They cheaped out in basically every way.
Ugh you and me both :( It was like EO 1 to 2 was a huge step up and so exciting so I think we all expected great things. But we downgraded to something worse than EO 1 😭
Abzu was beautiful and the music was top tier, but the experience of endless ocean 2 was filled with so much serenity and wonder throughout. A very different vibe which I want to go revisit.
I couldn’t finish Dave the Diver. It was cute but it overstayed its welcome. The gameplay was repetitive and gimmicky after a while. Should have been a few hours shorter.
This game genuinely looks like they ruined a tremendous series. Should have left it alone if this was the effort they were going to put in. Even the graphics are incredibly underwhelming. Enjoyed your review! Wrapped up so much of what I loved about previous games as a kid
This is such a great video! I really enjoy the Endless Ocean franchise, a bummer the new release didn’t quite deliver, really enjoyed hearing your thoughts and commentary on it! 🤿🌊
Why would they include Crown Of Thorns starfish in the game? They're really bad for the environment, they eat corals and large populations can destroy reefs 😭 what a choice
My wife is a huuuuge EO fan from the Wii days and was so looking forward to Luminous. She couldn't have been more disappointed as to how this game came out.
I really feel her pain :(

The soundtrack is ICONIC. The music in this is just..... elevator music. So disappointing :(

I'm all here for more ASMR reviews :)
I know right
I really love the review, would love to see more.
as a lover of Dolphin Island: Underwater Adventure for DS, i feel like this might scratch that itch i’ve had for an ocean research game
From the looks of it, this game seems like more of an interactive screensaver than an in depth, immersive game.
Not too far off :(
We love a content/phobia warning! Thank you always! ❤
Of course!! ❤

Maybe watching a video that says "will make you sleep" in the title isn't the best idea when you're having trouble staying awake???
@MyCaio1997 Lol - I was so interested in the actual review that I stayed awake just fine!
I hope you continue to make reviews like this, this was top tier, im hoping you check out Echoes of the Plum Grove soon, its a great cozy game

Right?? I would've rather just remembered the previous 2 nostalgically than this...
I loved the review, but definitely that's a game that I would never play jajajaja, please make more reviews like this 💖
A pleasant cure for insomnia
game looks kind of lame especially since it offers less than subnautica and is more expensive
It offers less than the 15 year old prior iteration in the series. They should be embarrassed to be asking so much money for it.
Yeah bruh the graphics are straight cheeks
@farmpunk_dan seems like a trend for a lot of nintendo games this gen
I really DON'T like being negative about games but they owe us all a refund and an apology lmao (and then an EO2 port)
Two different games bud ones a survival game that Is subnautica and this one is like a Pokémon snap your comparing apple to oranges
