About the chant :

'Deus, Deus Meus' translated into English as 'My God, my God look upon me'' which comes from the familiar Psalm 22 (VV 2-9, 18, 19, 22, 24, and 32).
This chant tells the second three hours that Christ spent on the cross were characterized by silence and darkness and God’s seeming deafness to the pleas and cries of his Son. We learn in the Lord’s retreating and passing how vast a person he was among us. Our memories of what he was like before the “retreat” or “departure” become suffused with the profound weight of post-mortem insight. Perhaps, historically, Jesus died more as he does in Mark and Matthew that he does in Luke or John. Perhaps he cried out, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani… My God, My God, why have you abandoned me?” rather than “Into your hands, I commend my spirit” or “It is finished.”

Years ago I used to think this chanting sounded evil and cult like. I was a rebellious protestant at the time.
Now, this is the most soothing sound of music I can hear.
I've left the rebellious ways of Protestantism, tho not entirely, still a bit of protestant in me I have to get rid of.
Don't equate Protestanism (a broad denomination) with your troubles with faith. Educate yourself before you speak. Protestants love and respect our Roman Catholic brothers and sisters like we do all other denominations of Christendom. In fact, what you are listening to was created before the Protestant Reformation when we were all "Catholics", which we still are. "Catholic" simply means Universal in Greek. The Roman Catholic Church is simply the largest denomination of Christendom. And like most Orthodox Christian Churches, we simply don't believe in Papal primacy. It's funny that we never see the same amount of vitriol directed towards Orthodox churches. Please, find peace and love in your heart instead of hating things you don't understand. And I sincerely hope this didn't come off as harsh.

"My God, my God, what hast Thou forsaken me," is the 1st line of a psalm. Saying that line was a way of invoking the full text of the psalm. Go read that psalm to understand what Christ meant by it. It is Psalm 22:2, it is, like so much in the Gospels, filled w/ ironic force.
