      Before you respond d to this read the entire thing please. I keep getting comments trying to correct me on things I already mentioned here and said are correct or with false information that I explained in here and they didn’t bother researching it properly. It has been 9 months and the only correction reply(of which there has probably been over 20) that actually corrected me was the baby rabbit probably went into shock, not played dead. And honestly he was probably the rudest about trying to correct me so it’s annoying.
      A lot of mammals have a patch of fur called a scruff that makes it ok to pick them up like this.
      However rabbits in particular are not supposed to be picked up this way, as it scared them when there back legs aren’t supported, and since rabbits hardly ever up their babies by the scruff they haven’t their scruffs haven’t evolved to be strong enough to support them, so it hurts to.
      The fat at the scruff is also connected to muscle underneath it, which means you would be pulling on those when you pick a rabbit up on the scruff, resulting in more pain. A cat or dogs scruff isn’t connected to muscles like this
      I changed don’t to hardly ever as on rare occasions they will pick up there rabbit young, but never on the scruff and it is very rare. I should add this is also a specific species that has only been seen doing this a handful of times, and I’m not 100% confident in the articles.

      Baby dogs, cats, rabbits and other mammals instinctively feel safe and calm when they are held that way because that is the way their mother holds them to move them, they feel so safe and calm that they can fall asleep that way.

    This video is outright animal abuse, the dude asking "why are you holding him like that" is composing himself a shocking amount, anyone who actually knows rabbits whatsoever would be horrified watching this.
    The bunny is horrified, starts screaming the second its being moved because its being held in one of the most painful ways possible (and also the way a predator would pick them up). The dude who catches the bunny and immediately supports it does a phenominal job, preventing the bunny from hitting the ground and supporting its entire weight, im sure its still stressed being held by him but its absolutely 100% safe and way better than the initial asshole
    Edit: also wanted to add that bunnies almost NEVER vocalize anything, as a rabbit owner if i hear my rabbit scream or grunt even a single time it shatters my heart because it means shes REALLY upset. I have NEVER EVER in my LIFE heard any bunny scream as much as the bunny in this video, it is appalling

      Im not sure, please correct me if im wrong but they may just be holding it by the scruff. I have rabbits but I don’t know if they have scruffs or not, they usually hold them like this to prevent them from scratching/biting- same reason why they’re held by the ears. It was probably screaming because it was scared, not hurt. It only started screaming whenever the man approached and tries to grab it. I am happy about the man carrying it with care, it’s usually how I carry rabbits. But then again, I can’t completely be sure- please let me know ❤

    • @OddCanuck420
      @OddCanuck420 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@FIashKat_25 rabbit scruffs are not developed enough to support their weight beyond a couple of weeks old (if even that) and rabbits dont respond well to negative reinforcement so scruffing them is not recommended under any circumstances.
      cats and some other animals to my knowledge are fully capable of being scruffed safely so i dont blame you for thinking rabbits are the same since they do have a scruff. if you are looking for alternatives to scruffing them i suggest offering them a healthy alternative to the bad habit they are exhibiting; if they are chewing on baseboards for exaple then offer them a cardboard cat scratcher or something similar to curb their natural instinct to chew on something.
      hope this helps

    • @chimkinungies2393
      @chimkinungies2393 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @FIashKat_25 Momma bunnies do not carry their children, therefore rabbits do not have 'scruffs' like kittens/cats do.
      Holding them by anything- skin or ears- is extremely painful. I mean like horrendously. Rabbits do not react to pain in the same way as we do as they are prey animals and will remain quiet unless it thinks it's literally about to die and it uses its voice as a last resort to shock/distract and run away.
      They also won't move as it will make the pain worse. Rabbit ears may be large but that means they have a lot of important blood vessels and nerves. It's the same as holding a basset hound by its ears. It completely inhumane and can cause permanent nerve damage or even rip the ear.
      I always grab bunnies with one hand scoops under their chest/stomach and the other grabs the whole butt. Then I turn them around to lay stomach first to my chest, making sure they are always supported.

    guys, the rabbit was screaming bc the way the guy was holding him. Usually is okay to hold a rabbit like that but very gently with all of your fingers. with only 2 or 3 it hurts the rabbit. Another reason the rabbit was screaming is because his legs were not supported. Rabbits feel very uncomfortable without their feet be supported because they feel unbalanced.

  • @bigmonkey1254
    @bigmonkey1254 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3328

    For the lengthy debaters here: rabbits do not like being held like this. The man was probably just holding it this way for a few seconds so that the rabbit wouldn't bite him (which they sometimes do) as he moved it. Rabbits are not like kittens. And it was quiet because it was nervous. Ive seen several animals go quiet when scared before panicking.

My cat lead me to two baby rabbits by a tree huddled together with there eyes barely opened. I took them to a very kind vet that hooked me up with the info I needed. I have fostered newborn orphaned and rejected kittens. Which is similar. Vet told me to use Kitten milk replacer and add a tablespoon of heavy whipping cream (without sugar) to each can of KMR. They both lived to age 7 and died 17 days apart which crushed me. They were so much fun to have.

    A lot of people use scruffing as a primary way to hold animals regardless of how the animal is acting and that’s not okay. Scruffing is a really aggressive and dominant way of restraining animals because it essentially makes them completely helpless and because of that they usually don’t respond well to like in this video (scared silence / screaming). Animals, especially those that aren’t pets, don’t like feeling like they have no control.
    Unless you need to scruff an animal for someone’s safety, don’t do it. Just pick them up normally and respect that they don’t like being held if they fight you
