I own the SX and I purchased it 6 months after the release of the MK2. it's brand new sitting in my dark closet. But this video gave me inspiration to not give up on it. Thank's again!
I use a 404 OG as an effector with my MPC LIve 2 when recording and performing and was considering a MK2, but your really great in-depth video showed me that it might not be worth the upgrade because I actually liked the FX out the SX and don't find the MK2 to be much of a huge upgrade there. I also love how the OG has vinyl sim as a main front button and the simplicity of the OG/SX seems to make performing easier and dare i say better? The MK2 clearly is a better machine to create entire tracks on, but my MPC is already amazing at doing that. Thank you for your vid.
I haven't found if there is an Effects Limit in the MK2, which I found pretty handy in the SX - you could self oscillate the Tape Delay without it getting too loud on the SX. It gets pretty loud on the MK2 if you try the same thing.
Awesome video, you made the picture quite clear for my specific case, I work with maschine and want to complement my workflow with an sp for the effects, the sx looks perfect for that
@@tonyortizc21 I use the first SP in the chain to manipulate and sample my modular synth which then outputs into the mk2 that I can trigger my full tracks to also manipulate on top of my modular.
@@tonyortizc21 I was in the same predicament! Just add to your workflow as you need it, honestly the sx is quite good anyway. The added features are awesome on the mk2 but not as widely used as I thought I would.

The Mk II is presently back ordered everywhere so I just pulled the trigger and got an a. Can't wait to play with it!
It’s funny I’m just noticing this now, but does the lofi function of the sx almost have a sp1200 kinda ring to it? At least that’s what I’m hearing. I have to admit in some situations things can get a little too lofi’d, depending on your setup. For me the mk2 would be perfection routing audio from my S2400 😍
I like to use the sx bit crasher on some samples cuz it sounds similar to the asr10 sample rate reduction. Then send it to the mkii and resample more fx. Im cheap asf and it saves me the money of buying sp950😅
Also I wish the fx menu would stay on until you want it off. It defaults back to the bpm way to fast. I feel like having to bpm on screen all the time isn't necessary
There is a way to lock the effects parameter page on. I believe you press either Remain and the MFX button or the encoder button and the MFX button (haven’t used mine in awhile as I’m fixing up my studio). I do agree though, it’s absolutely unnecessary to see the BPM as the priority view and I feel like the decision was made just to honor the legacy. They could totally have a small BPM counter in the corner of any page or just not display it if I’m not messing around with the tempo or time stretching.

I was originally going to grab a SX today but i saw the mk 2 for a little more and i went for it. Worst part about it, is the sx i was eyeing is gone also! i guess ill celebrate 404 day in spirit tomorrow
Hey, tks for those incredible videos ! I'm missing in the MKII, the possibility to play the effect just for the current or last pad hit. For the SX it was easy and natural....for MKII the effects is applied for all pad lit. Somebody can help me ?
Great vid, but I can't decide if I'm going to buy the mk2 or the sx. I mainly produce beats on daws. I mean it's great, I don't have any problems, but I really like the compressor, the pads and the warm sound on the sp's. Don't know if I should save some money for the mk2 or just get the sx, I mean the price went down and it's a pretty good option at the moment I think. Now the problem is that the sx got the lofi button what sounds really fcking nice and the subsonic fx. Don't know why they take so nice fx's out... Also don't know if I'm going to need the new features on the mk2, not going to lie the chopping and the mute groups are really sexy and also the new pitch... you guys see why I can't really decide here lol
Good question- given that I have an MPC One, yeah I’d take the sx over the mk2. Because the MPC one is way more capable than the mk2! If I was to take one over the other with no other gear though, I’d take the mk2

Depending on who you ask, maybe not the best analogy. I think that the 404 OG in terms of some FX is actually better- just like some people prefer 303 FX to 404 OG FX

If Akai ever updates their USB audio class compliance to include 48kHz, or Roland ever updates theirs to be compatible with 44.1kHz… I’ll buy a MKII in an instant. Until then my SP-555 has USB audio class compliance at 44.1 kHz and works great with my MPC.

Lo-Fi sounds great on MKII (even has the old 303). Also *uc* Distrokid. Why pay monthly keeping all your music up when you can pay one and done with so many others? What a scam.
