If you've got a spare t shirt with you pull it over the mattress and shove the pillow up inside it. Stops it moving around .

    • @DemiGod..

or attach a strap to the ends of the pillow that keeps it in place.

You bring a TV with you ? An issue with a tent is you are in a confined space, cant do much more than lie there or sleep, your sleeping bag in cold weather has to be fully zipped up so you cocooned. Doing the toilet in cold wether is super fun NOT.

Hey Ben, thanks for this video. I do like the reality to this one. Winter camps are a lot of hours in a tent, cold and keeping warm. I like how you avoided the normal glamourous nature of wild camp videos on TH-cam - sunsets, sunrises and stunning vistas. This one is refreshing as no two wild camps are the same. I appreciate it. Thanks. Happy New Year mate.

All the glamour, yep basically that’s wild camping, we all do it for our own reasons and make it what we want. Mostly camps for me mean I can sit and do nothing for a long time which is very different to home and work life. I love being bored 🙏🏻 thanks Ben ❄️

An excellent video, the longer format worked. I’m with you on the Wayfarer meals, they are always pretty consistent and convenient as they don’t take long to heat up. A few more recipe variations would be from them. Less condensation that I think you expected, bit thats all good. The sleep mat looked good too, so that’s now on my list of things to buy.

Great video Ben, good to see you do a longer one. Really enjoyed it. I'm a similar sleeper to yourself when I'm wild camping, no matter how tired I am i seem to wake up every couple of hours or so, (Usually needing a wee) but can fortunately doze off again. I also use a bag liner, as I only have a 3 season OEX Fathom 300 synthetic sleeping bag. I have the OEX Furnace +8. Works for me as well, makes a heck of a difference, Probably doesn't add the 8 degrees they claim but I bet is 5 or or so. I also use the cheap (2 for a quid) hand warmers that stay warm all night. Throw a couple in the bag an hour before I get in and they have really warmed it up. Cheers. . 👍

I enjoyed the longer format. It just felt natural.
Another vote for the Osprey Atmos AG50 or AG65. It has everything you've mentioned (not the LT version though which ditches some features for a minor weight reduction).
Also if you weren't aware, the Talon range isn't actually designed for carrying weight. The 36, 44 and 55 litre versions all have a recommended load range of 7-11kg which especially for the latter of those two is very much on the light side for a backpack. For a solid back (Airscape in the Osprey world) designed for heavier loads I think it's the Aether range.

    • @easternmenace
      @easternmenace 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Annoyingly they changed that on the 2022 model I think. You would have to cut at least one, maybe two holes in the mesh to do that. The previous model let you do that though but it didn't have hip belt pockets and people complained so they changed it. Should have bought the older model to be honest as the straps were better and I don't really care about hip belt pockets, especially since they are too small for anything on the newer exos.

Interesting British take on "winter". AlthoughI've seen British winter camping in raging blizzards.
Here in the mountain west (Nevada, USA) my idea of winter camping is anything from 0 C. to -30 C. so I take the proper garments including my sleep system and tent.
As the Norwegians say, "There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing." BTW, a Norwegian polypropylene mesh base layer is THE warmest and driest base layer extant.

One not so good thing about the design is that it appears the zipper runs across the inner at the top. That’s a no no as water can hit the inner as you get in an out of the tent if it’s raining etc.

@@DaleyOutdoors A good weight of over 2kg ;). Everyone prefers something different, for me too many zippers. I quickly learned to pack in one pocket. What I don't like at first glance are the compression straps on the sides, because they go over the pockets, which is not handy.
I recommend Gregory Focal. Weight about 1.2 kg. It has everything you want except the loop on the front for poles. Very comfortable. Durable for its weight. It has two seasons behind it. Walking in the bushes and a few parties with friends. I don't know how much weight you normally carry. Here you mention 15kg. I think that's its maximum, then it will be less and less comfortable. I carried 22kg in it for a distance of 7 miles. Nothing happened to it, no deformation or anything. But you could already feel the decrease in comfort and the frame not working properly. I recommend considering the 58L version considering how much stuff you carry.

Osprey make the Exos exactly what you want, buy an old model, i didnt like the latest one either, the old model without the hip belt pockets was better the side straps routed under the side pockets and it carried the same weight more comfy and had better more taught back mesh which made it great for a sweaty back. I have tge latest talon 44 now which i like for sumner over night camps

Why do you not put your guylines out? What clothes did you sleep in? You should always change out of your day clothes into longjohns and a clean thermal shirt to sleep in else you get cold from the moisture given off from your body during the day.

Winter camping is all about bragging rights for having the balls to wake up at minus 10 Celcius and surviving it. It's to show the world to show you're SAS material. Other than that it's horrible basically, with few daylight hours and nothing to see. But it could still be fun, especially when you're in a group. At least you don't sweat a lot. Try everything at least once in your life.
