Hi I love your reviews but i need your advice. From a brand and somewhat brand perspective I am thinking to get the 800D3 but I recently heard the sounds and review of the Whafeldale Elysian 4 they sound so musical and the bass is so good! Would really love to hear your thoughts and recommendation as you carry both brands , Its not about the money its about the sound and value at the end of the day

Your Welcome, I heard him at a HiFi demo and discovered him that way too :) H has done lots of albums, I only have the one atm - its a really good sounding album Liquid Spirit
That's the one I will get i.e Liquid Spirit.
The Marten's sound smoother and more natural. B&W's earlier speakers actually sounded better, particularly the nautilus series. The timbre and tonality of the instruments were more accurate. The newer B&W's 800 series are starting to sound more like P.A. speakers in my opinion. They need to go back to the engineering drawing board and re-do their sound signature to the earlier models with slighter but better improvements. I owned the earlier top of the line B&W's and am reluctant to purchase the newer models.
for me the B&W's sound more punctual, rhythmic. Also the bass has more resolution. Clear winner for me..

With the B&W, the piano sounds much more like a real piano, highs are more clear and the sound more coherent. With the Marten, the vocal sounds quite different, everything more "polite". I would have to go with the B&W.
I still hear that sound from my own speakers so impossible to say how those sound 😢

I would be interested to hear from others who have used/are using Chiord amplififcation with the 802 D3s. I am presently using Audio Rsearch valve gear but am thinking of switching to Chord.
It's funny reading comments favouring B&W, seems their gamble to exaggerate certain parts of the spectrum for "showroom impression", paid off (compared to older models). Marten is the more faithful speaker here hands down.
Same with the gamble for Marten paid off. How is it bias for people like B&W. Different ears and tastes. If you chose Marten fair enough but don’t go after those who chose something different which also make it obvious you are a B&W hater.
B & W by a country mile. In the first few seconds the piano is so much more to the fore.

B&W wins...clearer, more punctual, fuller tones and more color.
Anyone judging from this video is judging their own sound system, not B&W vs Martin Bird.
difficult to judge ....to high range to critical or make one higher...for me bw are more neutral...marten is nice but a little bit to warm
B&W clearly wins this one for me.

B&W 800 Diamond D3 win
I have B&W 802Ds and anytime I listen to these videos through my good system not my computer they sound like crap. But it is nice to help discover some good quality music that others are enjoying. How can you critically compare 17 thousand dollar speakers. Unless you have at least $17k speakers yourself and are using some sort of lossless feed? I"ve heard some systems that sound fantastic on my Yamaha computer speakers. But play the same thing on my B&W system and so much is missing, so if I was to judge even the million dollar systems by the youtube video I would have to say it sounds like crap. So you should only take these videos with a grain of salt. But they are sometimes interesting and perhaps entertaining.
Based on the sound picked up by a mic, transferred trough a network, to our sound devices, we will never hear the true sound of these speakers.
But i have been lucky enough to hear both these speakers in real life, i've heard the 800 - 802- 803, and i can say from experience, Bowers has a sound that very few speakers will match to their price point. Fair enough the Bowers sound is something one has to get used to cause of the clarity of the sound and the huge sound stage you get from them. But after a few days of tuning ur ears, you will come to the same conclusion as me. No matter how long it takes, how hard im gonna have to grind. Im gonna own a pair of 800's or 802's.
As for comparing the Marten Bird 2 to the B&W 800's. Is a kind of let down for Marten in my ears, cause even if they might sound better in the mid range to some ears, and tighter flat more rustic sound. The Bowers will just blow them away every day of the week, even on a huge hang over after a saturday night.

Alien Buddha, have you spent any time with the KEF Reference 3s ? I spent a day comparing them side by side with the B&W Diamond series, the Kefs more than hold their own with jazz/vocal/instrumental/classical genres, inmho and I own B&W 800s.
