    I like the point about how retopo can allow you to focus on edge flow, while not getting hung up on proportion and design. I very nice stepping stone to better modeling indeed 👍

    This step really helped those who are struggling to understand the basic shape and topology of the model. If you wanted to further advance your modeling try to use an image plane, especially for hard surface modeling that has a lot of curves to further understand and improve your modeling. If you've done hard surfaces then try to make a simple cartoon character I recommend something like talking tom.

    Thank you for sharing your techniques to us. I am @ the point that I wanted to more by starting my own project and that following video tutorials gets boring now that I know the fundamentals. This video motivates me to start my own project and apply this method.

    It think its worth to mention that if someone can't get a real life reference, just to try searching for internet videos made in simular camera angle fashion, to get a reference out of a video. Which i did a lot and got meaningful reference models out of it, even when they aren't that much detailed or incomplete. Using YT search filter for 4k or 8k (future) videos can improve a lot of the end results. Full HD videos can work depending on the object and video style. So nearly every frame of the video gets exported as a picture and feed into the software. Using VLC and then pressing SHIFT + S creates a Screenshot in documents/pictures folder.

    Great job. I’m a full time photogrammetrist. Been doing it for 11 years now. Started with satellite imagery. Now I use drones. So much cheaper, faster and wayyy better.

    • @OnMars3D

      I've created photogrammetry with drone data before, it really is incredible how fast the tech is evolving to be able to scan an entire real world terrain!

    • @tbaymufon6448
      @tbaymufon6448 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OnMars3D yeah exactly. I use Drone Deploy and Pix4D at work. In my opinion Drone Deploy is 100 times better than any other photogrammetry software, for what I need it for. Which is creating real to life and scale 3d models of construction projects around the mine site I work at. Plus I get to play with close to $500,000. Worth of high tech drones lol.

    Would be great to have a tutorial on creating a lowpoly model from a dense scan like you’ve done here, and then baking the scan’s detail and colour down to textures for the lowpoly.

    So its better to model under the photogramitry mesh, than it is to retopo on top of it?

  • @alexnevagno9861
    @alexnevagno9861 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It was easier to take pictures around the object - somewhere in 5 - a maximum of 10 photos.
    You can use the ref and apply the camera with a map.

  • @ArnoldVeeman
    @ArnoldVeeman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great info, thank you.
    Is there a way to transfer the textures from the original photogrammetry model to the lower poly model?

    • @OnMars3D
      @OnMars3D  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can use the standard texture baking workflow to bake the diffuse/albedo of the photogrammetry down to the low poly. It would need some clean up, but it would be a great start.

  • @asvanum

    Thank you sir for making this one, but I do have a ques you mentioned that this is the way industry uses and if that's true doesn't it make the knowledge and skills required to make a model from scratch irrelevant? I mean this workflow doesn't require that much skill and time to make a model.

    • @lockenessmotorsports818
      @lockenessmotorsports818 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Still takes skill still allot of understanding of topology and edge flow needed all you're really taking out is reading form from picture ref

    • @OnMars3D
      @OnMars3D  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LockeNess summed it up really well, even with scan data, you still need to have a fundamental understanding of topology and edge flow. It will transfer whether you have 3D scan reference or not. Hope this helps!
