I hope that Astro can remind some developers (besides Nintendo ofc) that there's still a _huge_ market for 3D platformers out there. Not everything needs to be a cinematic action game.
@@baggelissonic Look at Mario's numbers and you can see there's still a huge market for 3D platformers. There's always been one. This isn't going to be an instant gangbusters game since it's a new IP to most people, but more than big enough to make a healthy profit given how much lower the budget was to make it. It looks like it's going well enough, and I'm betting sales are going to be more slow and steady than an avalanche at the start (apparently Amazon Japan sold out of it for a little while though) solely due to glowing word of mouth. I used to work as promotional staff in electronics stores and there were like 3 or 4 VR games that always drew a crowd, Astro Bot Rescue Mission was never one of them. People understandably asked what was even the point of a VR 3D platformer, and never gave the game a fair chance. The few kids that did however *loved* it, and while I was more of a R.I.G.S. guy myself, Astro Bot Rescue Mission always managed to get me to come back. It was a great game locked behind an expensive VR Headset in an era with a ton of great games. A sequel on a popular console that doesn't require a peripheral was the best thing they could do for Astro Bot and I for one am delighted
As a platformer enthusiast and a VR enthusiast, Rescue Mission is among the best of both. And it's absolutely insane to me that Sony's got a newer, better VR headset, and they still haven't ported over Rescue Mission despite the PSVR2 having almost no other games. I still to this day can't comprehend that Sony couldn't figure out how to better handle PSVR compatability. As a die hard PSVR1 fan, I don't see how they thought they could convince people to lose all of their favorite games on PSVR2.
The game director from team asobi recently did a interview they hit asked 176 (I think) and one of them was about rescue mission on psvr2 and the answer was I can't say if I did if it did come come to psvr2 how would it work and the team asobi is a team made of around 65 people.

For what it's worth, this was a late concern I had before I got to play Astro Bot - and for maybe a level or two, even while enjoying the hell out of it, I thought "okay this is technically safe for the handful of us that know Rescue Mission well." However, as time went on, it became clear that the new game had somehow already pulled off what it takes series' several installments and a decade+ to do: It had built up a series DNA organically, so that you'd see bosses, enemies, or gadgets return and feel nostalgic for them. The ape boss in world 1 was where that clicked for me, that they were absolutely making sure you knew _they knew_ how to reference their own history while expanding on or straight-up reinventing it. Which, honestly, is fitting for a game that does the same thing with all the PlayStation history cameos, without actually relying on them!

This is, without any exaggerating, the only reason I have a PS5 and haven't completely transitioned to PC. I have been so bummed out by Sony and MSs first party output. I'm done with my consoles. I'm trying to sell them off. Lo and behold Sony decides to remember that videogames are supposed to be fun. Everything Astrobot has been my favorite memories with a PS4 or PS5. Playing the vr party game where your family sits with the controllers while you're a big monster or something, THAT is what videogames are supposed to be about. Laughing, smiling and having fun. ASTRO VR was a single player game and so is this, but I still fully expect that I will smile and have fun again. More of this is what keeps me engaged with your products. Not ANOTHER third person action game with shoe horned rpg mechanics.
Rescue Mission is such a fantastic game, and it was unquestionably made better by being in VR. I'm glad Astro is getting new games released to the larger non-VR audience, but I was gutted when they completely ruled out a VR mode for the new game. That killed my interest in it. Astro's Playroom was fun, but it just felt lacking after having experienced Rescue mission.
I remember playing that shuriken minigame with my cousins who had the camera, cool to see Astro Bot evolve into a proper franchise. Those gauntlet levels also look really fun.
Regarding having to hook up a PS4 for this game when you have a PS5: If you have a PSVR and want to use it on the PS5 to play, you can request an adapter for the PlayStation camera from Sony for free. No PS4 required! You DO need a DualShock 4 though :P
This game was 1 of 5 included (as Digital Downloads) when I finally grabbed a PSVR Headset back around 2019 or so... I loved every second of Astro Bot Rescue Mission. I LOVED Astro's Playroom and SO GLAD we've gotten a proper Astro Bot game (without VR) because from the get go the games always screamed "PlayStation's Mario" to me, just straight up, the feel and everything is just soooooo Nintendo, then add in all the PlayStation centric History/Nostalgia especially as someone who started out with and grew up from the PS1 all the way to today as a PlayStation fan 😁 Astro is just such an enjoyable series for someone like me... He's also just insanely adorable. Probably not as huggable as Ratchet though since he's made of metal 😅
I was fortunate enough to want to get the PSVR1 because I already had 2 games that were VR ready and when I thought Ace Combat was going to be VR as well. I already had the Wipeout Collection, and NMS.. plus small hope Elite Dangerous would get VR on the PS4. When I fooled around with the VR playroom demo... just had to get Rescue Mission. I even paced myself to only completing one world a week because I didn't want the enjoyment of playing the game to end too quickly 😂. Astro Bot Rescue Mission is so very worth it!
Been dying to play a platformer and forgot about Astro’s Playroom that came with everyone’s PS5, like UNO that came with almost every X360 back then. I the beat the game, got the Platinum, this Summer, got 100% with the DLCs this month and I had a ton of fun. When they announced a new Astro game, with a $60 price tag, I said Day 1!
Very nice video to one of my favorite games of all time. I did my 100% again last month. Because of course, in anticipation of the one and only Astro Bot and for the love of gaming god... This game just has not aged a single day. In the interest of time, i wont call out the many different things this masterpiece excels at, which is virtually almost everything... You already covered most of the positive aspects anyways. However, the only complaint i can possibly think off is the one you stated as well... The five controller gadgets, the flashlight in particular, could have been a little bit more evenly balanced and fleshed out.
Watching this video gave me a slight headache what with watching the shaky cam of VR for 22 minutes but it was worth it.......seriously though, keeping tracking of a tiny little guy with the constant shaky cam is ROUGH
Rescue Mission was pure enlightenment and represented the future. Playroom was copy and paste core gameplay from generations past and completely forgettable. More flatscreen Astro could be tolerable, but no desire to play once again expecting constant thought of knowing a VR experience would have been exponentially more fun and deserving for this IP. When Team Asobi announces PSVR2 support/mode, then I will be first in line.
@@WayneisbossSome other cool things about PSVR: Games with VR modes, but do not necessarily need the VR to function, don't require the camera or a DualShock 4 (e.g. Tetris Effect) You can play any PS4 or PS5 game with the headset on, and adjust the screen size. This is, imo, a much more interesting way to free the tv for another person than the PS Portal. Good thing you said you're keeping your PS4. Exclusively on PS4, you are able to watch 3D movies with PSVR without the need for a 3D tv. Unfortunately, PS5 does not have support for 3D Blu-rays.
I'd honestly say it's worth it to pick up a PSVR 1 if the price is right and you have the necessary controllers. There are actually a lot of fun games on it. Astrobot Rescue Mission is near the top, but if you grab one you should also check out Wipeout Omega Collection, Statik, Here They Lie, Resident Evil 7's VR mode, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, Ace Combat 7 (though it only has 3 VR levels), Farpoint, VR Worlds, and Blood and Truth. And if you don't have any other VR headset, you can add Moss 1 and 2, Skyrim VR, Headmaster, Star Wars Squadrons, Eagle Flight, Doom 3 VR, Borderlands 2 VR, and a bunch of other games to the list. I had a blast with PSVR 1. It's still a lot of fun today as long as you can look past the low resolution, and have a reliable source of info on which games are good. I'd recommend the youtube channel Without Parole, as they've got reviews for a huge portion of the PSVR 1 library.
No gunna happen as they have the PS Conrtoller as the main in game graphic depictions ... probelry one of the reasons why there has been no PSVR2 port as the PSVR1 was well intergrated into the prahics ...
With the recent efforts to make bloodborne playable on pc opening the door for more ps4 emulation, I wonder if anyone with the know-how will find it worth the effort to start emulating vr games anytime soon.
Thankfully I got the plat in rescue mission so I don't feel like ever replaying it, but damn it was so much fun, I hope the new one is as good if not better
Me too ... and I did it again twice when I had my PSVR1 ... gave it away to a friend when I got the PSVR2 due to the overley complciated set-up for the PSVR1, now I wish I had it (after just completing the new non-VR game) to play all over again, but in reallity the PSVR1 set-up is sooo crap I know I woul not bother even if I still had the hardware ... Sony why the F have you not ported it???
@@loyaloneshot5874 agreed and I never played it cuz I don't have a PlayStation 5 I had a PlayStation 4 but then it burned out still need to get a new one
I saw the title and came to slam you for disregarding the VR game. Thank God SOMEONE remembers VR existed and Astrobot is the best PSVR game there is (besides resident evil 7)
Unfortunately, every single one of the Astro Bot games requires hardware that I have literally no other reason to obtain. Outside of some freebies given out during a promotion years ago, the only other game I ever thought of for PS4 VR was that Psychonauts midquel... which is doubly sad, because Astro Bot himself was one of those freebies. And PS5? The only non-Astro game I ever had an interest in got released on Steam a while back, and I'll end up with a PC up to par with its specs eventually! The same was almost the case with the PS Move having Heroes on the Move... but then I found a remote at a garage sale. And there was a used Move camera for cheap. And the actual game was very cheap too. All at the same time. It all added up to a normal low-end price. Somehow I doubt the same will happen with the VR components, and _especially_ the PS5.
It's an absolutely incredible game, made all the better by the VR format. It's just such a shame that it's shackled to an incredibly overly-complex and unintuitive platform as PSVR1. I desperately want to play this game again, but I don't have the willpower to find all these PSVR1 parts and hook everything up again. I hate that it doesn't have a PSVR2 port.
The most things PSVR2 people have been saying .... please please please port the top PS4 game and THE best PSVR1 game over to PSVR2 FFS, it's s no brainer, I'm sure 90% of people who have owned it on PSVR1 would pay again for it at a £30 price tag, it's only a port ....
If you want to play a similar platformer on psvr2, try Ven's VR Adventure. It's not as good but it doesn't make me sick as quickly as the psvr1 experience
It probably was, but I'm not spending the fat stack of cash and dealing with all the headaches and eye strain and motion sickness to try it out. I'm so glad the Astro Bot game coming to PS5 this week is just for regular TVs and controllers.
If that's your mentality, I don't want to hear any "SoNy OnLy MaKe MoViE gAmE" from you. This crap is what causes that. The new game will be several hours long and stuffed with 80 levels. It's every bit worthy of being full-priced.
There are games like this every other week on Nintendo platforms. The only reason it seems so amazing is if you only ever play on PlayStation or to an even greater extent Xbox. That’s not to say it’s not a cool, cute and fun game with neat ideas but pick out any recent Kirby game and there is just as much to like about that as there is in this. It’s a nice game that’s it, sorry that’s such a weird concept for you
The video says he finds Rescue Mision great because there will likely never be anything like it in the VR market (19:40). If vr platformers became as popular as standard platformers like Kirby, Rescue Mission wouldn't feel as special an experience, it would still be a good game though.
I was playing Mario 64 well before I learned how to read. That being last year doesn't take away from the fact that this game connects in a unique way from all of the Nintendo, PlayStation, Sega, or even Xbox platformers on my shelf - many of which aren't nearly as much pure fun to play. If games like this were coming out every other week, shit, I'd be playing my Switch a lot more, and there'd be world peace.

I'm glad Astro is getting new games released to the larger non-VR audience, but I was gutted when they completely ruled out a VR mode for the new game. That killed my interest in it. Astro's Playroom was fun, but it just felt lacking after having experienced Rescue mission.
Areed ... but the new AB is a 10/10 for me ... but if it had a PSVR2 full game mode switch that would have taken it all the way to a Spinal Tap 11/10
The creativity of Astrobot rescue mission VR rivals the best platformers of Nintendo
Very few games made me feel like a kid again, this was one of them and I am forever grateful for that!
I haven’t been so excited in a loooong time. Friday where are you?!
I remember playing that shuriken minigame with my cousins who had the camera, cool to see Astro Bot evolve into a proper franchise. Those gauntlet levels also look really fun.
Such an adorable little gem!
Thank you for this birthday treat (I know you released it on this day intentionally 😅)
i appreciate all the costco fanservice golden
Regarding having to hook up a PS4 for this game when you have a PS5:
If you have a PSVR and want to use it on the PS5 to play, you can request an adapter for the PlayStation camera from Sony for free.
No PS4 required! You DO need a DualShock 4 though :P
I want an Atro Bot 2 but with more mini games/tech demos. Imagine Astro Bot Party like mario party
A beautiful clean game! Love the switch from desert to waterpark/glacial.
Oh well, at least the one I'm taking about
He has a dual shock, too, ribbed for his pleasure, and he pulled it out of his very front pocket
This game was 1 of 5 included (as Digital Downloads) when I finally grabbed a PSVR Headset back around 2019 or so... I loved every second of Astro Bot Rescue Mission.
I LOVED Astro's Playroom and SO GLAD we've gotten a proper Astro Bot game (without VR) because from the get go the games always screamed "PlayStation's Mario" to me, just straight up, the feel and everything is just soooooo Nintendo, then add in all the PlayStation centric History/Nostalgia especially as someone who started out with and grew up from the PS1 all the way to today as a PlayStation fan 😁
Astro is just such an enjoyable series for someone like me... He's also just insanely adorable. Probably not as huggable as Ratchet though since he's made of metal 😅
Breath over depth... Yeah, i think this is a very fitting way to describe Astro's adventures in general.
FINALLY someone talks about VRs most underrated GEM
If Playstation All Star 2 ever comes back, I’ll be expecting AstroBot to be in the roster
I mean Max Mustard has already tested the waters after Astro Bot for the VR Collect-athon platformer
Yes Astro bot rescue mission was exceptional
I was fortunate enough to want to get the PSVR1 because I already had 2 games that were VR ready and when I thought Ace Combat was going to be VR as well. I already had the Wipeout Collection, and NMS.. plus small hope Elite Dangerous would get VR on the PS4. When I fooled around with the VR playroom demo... just had to get Rescue Mission. I even paced myself to only completing one world a week because I didn't want the enjoyment of playing the game to end too quickly 😂. Astro Bot Rescue Mission is so very worth it!
Mario: I am the best ps5 game
astro bot: (releases best game)
Mario isn't on PS5?
Since Astrobot isn't coming to VR Rescue Mission NEEDS to be updated for PSVR2
Watching this video gave me a slight headache what with watching the shaky cam of VR for 22 minutes but it was worth it.......seriously though, keeping tracking of a tiny little guy with the constant shaky cam is ROUGH
Astro bot HYPE!!! Love the vr game
i'm surprised you didn't mention the music, the soundtrack has a very nintendo feel and it really adds to the experience
I was there when we jumped from 2D to 3D
Astro could be the official PlayStation mascot for the future. Especially if this platformer catches on the way that Astros Playroom should have.
People who want Astro to take of and be the PlayStation mascot
👇
One of my favorite VR platinums, that's for sure

Rescue Mission was pure enlightenment and represented the future. Playroom was copy and paste core gameplay from generations past and completely forgettable. More flatscreen Astro could be tolerable, but no desire to play once again expecting constant thought of knowing a VR experience would have been exponentially more fun and deserving for this IP. When Team Asobi announces PSVR2 support/mode, then I will be first in line.
I legit might grab a PSVR bundle to play this. They're getting cheaper these days and I already love Astro's Playroom
Make sure you have a Dualshock 4 ready if you're gonna get the PS5 converter - most PSVR1 games need the DS4 lights to calibrate!
@TheGoldenBolt Oh I still keep my PS4 Pro around solely because Ape Escape 2 is downloaded on it and the emulation is busted on PS5 lol
@@WayneisbossSome other cool things about PSVR:
Games with VR modes, but do not necessarily need the VR to function, don't require the camera or a DualShock 4 (e.g. Tetris Effect)
You can play any PS4 or PS5 game with the headset on, and adjust the screen size.
@@Wayneisboss where are you looking to buy the headset? This video kind of convinced me to get one too.
Astro's Playroom and Astro Bot are the only 2 reasons I would consider buying a PS5. For now, I can only wish for PC ports.
No gunna happen as they have the PS Conrtoller as the main in game graphic depictions ... probelry one of the reasons why there has been no PSVR2 port as the PSVR1 was well intergrated into the prahics ...
That was a fucking fantastic Dr. Direspect joke
Why do I get the feeling that the people at your local Costco don't like you
With the recent efforts to make bloodborne playable on pc opening the door for more ps4 emulation, I wonder if anyone with the know-how will find it worth the effort to start emulating vr games anytime soon.
Yes
Astro world is like a love child to all ps owners of all shapes and sizes
I loved astro bot on psvr1 so much.
Concord suck so that this game can be successful
We don't talk about that
@@loyaloneshot5874 agreed and I never played it cuz I don't have a PlayStation 5 I had a PlayStation 4 but then it burned out still need to get a new one
hop on concord
@@TheGoldenBolt Nah I'd rather discord
@@TheGoldenBolt no thanks I'm a single player gamer!
12:48 ah kidney stones
And?
I love astrobot in psvr so much the ps5 game is actually the first ps5 game I preordered the moment I could.
Ru gunna play akimbot on pc?
It's an absolutely incredible game, made all the better by the VR format. It's just such a shame that it's shackled to an incredibly overly-complex and unintuitive platform as PSVR1. I desperately want to play this game again, but I don't have the willpower to find all these PSVR1 parts and hook everything up again. I hate that it doesn't have a PSVR2 port.
One of the greatest games I've ever played
i loved rescue mission so im preordering the new game :3
The most things PSVR2 people have been saying .... please please please port the top PS4 game and THE best PSVR1 game over to PSVR2 FFS, it's s no brainer, I'm sure 90% of people who have owned it on PSVR1 would pay again for it at a £30 price tag, it's only a port ....
If you want to play a similar platformer on psvr2, try Ven's VR Adventure.
It's not as good but it doesn't make me sick as quickly as the psvr1 experience
I will have to remember that.
Or wait a couple weeks and play Max Mustard. From all accounts its a better platformer than Ven, and plays a bit more like Astro bot as well.
I can't imagine how they managed to not to port this game for psvr2 to this day. Shame on sony for being this dumb
This game shouldnt have won GOTY and we all know it.
EHHHH 70 pound for this game tho Meh wait till it's on sale next year then play smarter choice
You should wait a day and comment this on the video for the game you're actually talking about
I need you to have 1million subscribers
One day, who knows. Every comment and share helps, so you're already doing your part!
It probably was, but I'm not spending the fat stack of cash and dealing with all the headaches and eye strain and motion sickness to try it out. I'm so glad the Astro Bot game coming to PS5 this week is just for regular TVs and controllers.
Oh yeah, The Playroom. Twitch had to ban that from being streamed because people kept doing inappropriate sex stuff on it.
*I am.*
oooofun :D
I’ll buy it when it’s 10usd or less
Sony shut down team asobi studio 😂
They shut down Japan Studio. The employees moved to Team Asobi.
