Sorry I did not mention I have the V600. I have worked all day trying to find the 'key'. It was advertised for "large format' which I believe the 2.25 includes.
Don’t buy the v600 for slides or film! It is total crap ! The resolution is just not at all what it should be, apparently because the scanner cannot accommodate for the distance of the slide/film to the glass. I tested it and compared results with a plustek slide scanner. Just try for yourself and you will notice the tremendous difference. There’s also resolution comparison videos here on TH-cam. Even taking photos with a macro extension tube and a DSLR will get you much better results than the v600!
THIS WAS AMAZING ! I bought the Epson V600 yesterday and my 1st scans were terrible. I discovered the problem was the white board inside the lid that you removed when scanning negatives. I did not know this and it has saved me from chucking the whole lot in the river. You legend, thank you for this. It also now allows me to select the proper negative mode.
This is a fantastically well made tutorial my friend! I was left with no questions on how to operate the Epson V600 and, in fact, more excited for it to come via mail so I can get to using it! Well done, thank you greatly!
I just finished scanning 1,900+ 35mm slides that were over 50 years old. They were stored in their original boxes, all most all of the slides were packaged in a cardboard frame, only a few were in a plastic frames. Using the Epson V600, I scanned at 600bpi and it took on average one minute per slide, this does not include the time to sort your slides, remove dust, and arrange them in order (numeric, by month/year etc.; only if you can still read the stamped impression). I used a post scanning photo processing software called "ACDSee" to selectively improve details such as; cropping, straightening, color, contrast,....etc. I don't know what it would cost in the end or what the quality and file structure you would receive when using commercial services? I did am early on math comparison and it was clearly an advantage to do it yourself, if you have the time and if the scanning equipment was acceptable and affordable and you have the desire to do it right. I would absolutely recommend rebuy my Epson V600 scanner again, and I would put the time and effort into organizing, cataloging, and photo post processing those 35mm slides that I wanted to enhance or restore, the work is rewarded. Memories are just that, my recommendation is to by a quality scanner (like the Epson V600) and spend the time required to recapture your 35mm slides and photos into digital formats that you preserve forever - PS: hopefully your family will value these digital assets as much as you do, I'm afraid they won't, but until your time comes, convert and enjoy your memories that can be stored in the cloud, shared instantly, and projected my mirroring onto you 65-75 inch OLED TV's.
I have about the same from my family's storage unit. I just inherited all sorts of interesting historical photos, docs, and negatives. Thank you for this post, as It would be extremely expensive to send it in.
If you need to adjust the position of film in the holder 03:50 don't stick your finger on the image to slide it! Push against the bottom edge, try not to make any contact with the surface. 🙂👍
This was very helpful. I am using the Epson PerfectionV370 Photo scanner given to me over 7 years ago. The color from almost 70 year slides is unbelievable on it. Thanks for the tutorial!!
You are a savior! I'm a tech idiot that has thousands of photos, slides and negatives that I want to digitize. After much hand wringing while trying to decide whether or not to use a scanning service or try to do it myself, I just went out and purchased the Epson V600 scanner. Your video has probably saved me tens of hours trying to decipher the typical technogratic jargon that usually ignores the dozens of questions we neandrathals have with a new purchase. You have truly eased my anxiety and given me a lot of condfidence to begin using this scanner. You instruction was clear, easy to follow and illuminating. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!
Very helpful before and after purchase. Pictorial instructions for film racks not really adequate. None at all for scanning. You cleared up several "mysteries".
Thank you. I did not know my V600 had so many options until I chanced upon your very good video. Would be interested in your other photo tutorials. Nice and clear.
This is a find. Thank you. I had already bought a v600, so apologies that I cannot go back a few weeks and start again. But an amazingly clear tutorial, THANK YOU
I just did an extensive test of Silverfast, Vuescan, and Epson Scan 2. Epson Scan 2 (newest version) gave the most accurate, consistent scans of photos and slides. I was surprised but had read this from others as well so I tested. Was ready to pay for one of the other programs, but I'll be using Epson Scan 2.
I just purchased the V600 yesterday and The "Scan 2" No longer seems to be available for the V600. Can you redo your video using the software "Epson Scan" that comes with the V600, displaying the suggested settings for each, slide, film, and photo? If I am wrong about the "Scan 2", please include a link to where we can get it.
What a superb tutorial, thank you. Very clear and helpful. The V600 has a poor reputation for 35mm scanning quality but I imagine buying a slide and neg holder with adjustable height would fix that problem. In the meantime, this was very helpful, thanks.
Excellent video! Have you ever used the physical buttons on the front of the scanner rather than through the software? I can't find any documentation on how to use those buttons.
Don't forget the differences in D-Max/shadow detail. 3.4 D-Max for the v600 and 4.0 D-Max for the v850 Pro. I haven't directly checked the results side by side but it's worth knowing and considering.
Worth mentioning that when you scan old films at least you will have to turn the dull side up. The only purpose for me to scan in extra high resolution is when I have to do some reparations in photoshop. It’s necessary to have more pixels to work with there if you want food results. Then you just export it to the usual 300dpi. For PS processing I use tiff format instead of JPG. You are limited by that compressed format.
Brilliant tutorial thank you, I have this scanner arriving on Tuesday and can't wait to get started digitalising some random slides from the 70s I bought in a junk shop. And of course my own negatives! Liked and subscribed ✅
Thanks for your instructional video. I have the Epson Perfection V600 scanner - I bought it yesterday (December, 2021) at a local Best Buy - but, as seems always to be the case, your color slide scanning controls are not exactly the same as mine. Just the same, your video was a very great help to me in setting up my V600 scanner.
Great tutorial, thank you. I just purchased and installed the software, but I didn't get the Epson Scan 2 icon; only the Epson Scan icon on my homepage. I'm in Canada, could that be why or did I do something wrong? Thanks again for any advice you can give me.
The video shows Epson Scan 2 as the software, but mine shows just EPSON Scan which has completely different options. Do I have the wrong software loaded, or am I missing something?
I've got some old 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 in. slides that I'm having trouble scanning. They don't really fit any of the guides. If I lay them directly on the flatbed, it insists on cropping them severely top and bottom. Even in Professional mode, it won't let me set the original dimensions correctly. Is there a way to scan 2.125 x 2.125 inch slides? Also, the software you're using seems different than the Epson Scan software I have....?
If you lay them directly on the flatbed you may get newton rings in your pictures, you have to put the negatives between 2 to 4 mm separated from the scanner. The professional mode lets you select the frame, you have to uncheck the 'miniature' checkbox so it shows the whole 'page'.
I was so excited thinking about using this scanner, but I can't get the power to come on. I have triple checked all connections and the electrical outlet, but I am not getting any power. The actual power button on the side of the scanner seems a bit loose, not sure if that could be the problem, or the power cord its self is faulty??? Any suggestions?
Hi great video very straightforward. I followed every step and my final scans end up so blurry and out of focus. I’ve tried everything. Is there something I am doing wrong or a setting I need to change?
Is there a best software for batch scanning and processing hundreds of slides? Obviously I’ll have to physically switch out every four slides, but it’s so tedious to edit the crop and settings for every single shot every single time. Also curious if there is a frame that you can buy to do more than 4 at once!
I bought the Epson V600 and the slide and negative software didn’t work. I unfortunately only tried it after having the scanner for 6 months, so when I called Epson, they wanted to charge me for any help.
Hi, I am using Epson Perfection for digitizing colour film negatives. For the most part it is working well. When there is a clear strip between pictures, it works fine. However, I learned that at one time, there was a solid black line to mark the edges between pictures. Those pictures would not scan properly. Is there a setting in the program that I can adjust the transitions between the photos? Thank you!!!
hello, thank you very much for your tutorial, very clear. I am scanning quite a few slides but some appear smaller than others on the screen. I can't seem to figure out why.
I am using a computer that doesn't have a disc drive. My scanner came with an Epson software disc, but since I can't use it, it sent to to a download online where i have to buy some other software. The interface is different than yours. And I want the free software... any tricks?
Hi, I have also bought the same model than you have. I have followed all your instructions. I am afraid the final result of my scan is not what I expected. I do not think that I can even print my scanned images in 9 x 15cm size!!. I think I must be doing something wrong. Any advice? Please comment.
might have to do with your output size, which you probably get to type in or select just before you scan (settings), maybe look at advanced settings if you dont see it in your basic settings

Hi, thank you for the video. I like your review, but I find the video difficult to use when you're navigating the menus and we can't see the menus clearly. I would have appreciated that.
I just bought one of these today. I was done with the printer / scanner combos i was using because I didn't need to print as much and ink was too expensive for how little I printed. So here is my question: What are your thoughts on using Image capture vs the Epson software? I haven't installed the included software yet since Apple provides the built in tools.
I am attempting to scan 2.25 x 2..25 inch slides using the "B" holder. The menu will not allow me to set this in the dimensions windows. No matter where I place the slides, it cuts them off at the top or bottom as the dimensions appear to default to a small size. Any suggestions?
Problem solved. In the 'preview' window, a choice between tabs for 'thumbnail' or 'Normal' view. Default is 'thumbnail'. Perfectly normal result previewing 35mm slide frames. Shifting to the large format 'B' holder for 2.25 slide film would generate a preview where the photos were sliced up in fragments. Belatedly found the 'Normal' tab would show normal photos.
