I think this really shows just how much faster yards swimming on the whole has gotten, lots of those women in the 2013 meet went on to be olympic medalists, finalist or world champs/finalists, yet their yards times don't hold a candle to some of the women in 2023 who have more comparable meters times to them. Schmitt, Meili, Beisel, DiRado, Leverenz, Margalis, MacClean, Geer, it goes on.
I think we’ve always known how to train for distance freestyle and uws and bad technique don’t effect the longer events as much so its just the sprint and tech stroke events catching up to the endurance events
To comment on mid-distance & distance freestyle times being comparable after 10 years, I believe it is just an inaccurate scope bc 2022-2023 was down years for the 200-500-1650 freestyle races. If you were to go back to 2019/2021 you have ledecky and co going times much faster than 2013 times. Having those powerhouses created a vacuum, IMO, bc swimmers then focused on other events they would of had better chances winning/scoring. This year we should see the return of 200-500 times. 1650, no one currently in the NCAAs will ever be able to fill the void of Ledecky there.
I swam with Haley Anderson as an age group swimmer. We basically did the same workouts. But I was a sprinter and she did distance. Maybe specialization in practice is happening more now than back then. Maybe there's more emphasis on weight training for sprinters now. Creatine is also more widely used which basically only benefits sprinters.
Small tip for next time Kyle, you don’t have to look at events in the side menu, if you use the dropdown by clicking on the event (it’s above the words “A final”) then you can navigate a much more organized event list
I think the sprints are getting faster because of training changes - no more garbage meters, and more women are lifting weights compared to ten years ago. Pound for pound I'm willing to bet the 2023/2024 sprinters are physically stronger than in the past on average (contributes to depth), and that makes a bigger difference in the sprints compared to mid and long distance
I think the primary cause of swimflation is the rule changes- people have had modern training and lifting and video analysis and widespread internet coaching collaboration for well over a decade. In the shorter events, the wedge on the back of the block is worth nearly a second for a 50. The dolphin kick in breaststroke is worth nearly another second per 50. That itself covers most of the massive 200 Medley Relay difference. We’re not seeing these kind of improvements in the distance events, which means that it’s not fully attributable to training and nutrition.
Updated rules for backstroke starts are a massive deal as well. I don’t recall when the rules were changed, but my college swimming rules required toes to be underwater. It’s such a massive difference being able to just stand up versus having to balance with your toes against the slippery wall.
I feel like we havent got faster over 200 Because in my opinion the type of training distance swimmers do hasnt really changed much whereas with the 100s and 50s the type of training is different plus nutrition and gym back in 2013 was probably different compared to 2023
I think it’s a lack of emphasis on training the longer events - especially on the women’s side. There’s more of an emphasis on USRPT, etc. than on anything else. And we see it in the times and depth for freestyle events above 200.
The Women's NCAA prediction video will be a premiere that goes live TOMORROW at 6:30 PM CT
I would absolutely watch an hours (yes, plural) long version of this.
Don’t add the an*

4:00 anyone who thinks Kyle doesn’t know what he’s talking about is clinically insane.

I love the longer videos! They last my entire drive to work!

Cant wait for women’s nc’s

2013 B final would’ve won A final in 2023. That’s crazy
Swimflation? 🤔
Opposite
Wild data!
sprint revolution ‼️‼️

Ohio parents: we going to name our child Kit Kat
Could you explain next video what depth and top end speed means in regards to the times. Please and thank you!

TEACHER KYLE JUST UPLOADED
🤣
2017 is ridiculous though... Multiple sub-4:30s in the 500, and a staggering TEN Olympic medalists. Many events required faster times to win.

This reminds me of my 100 breast I swam in 45 sec
This is really boring to a 53 year old swimmer who has the best seats at Olympic Trials and more bitcoin than anyone can ever spend.
500 free 2013 B final.. would have won last years A final 🤔
Reason women’s swimming is faster is cause of
Summer!
Kate Douglass!
Gretchen Walsh!!
shut up bro
I train at UGA’s pool and I gotta say, it looks AWESOME they have it all set up for NCs already and it’s very exciting
OhhHhHhHhh let’s GOOOOooOoOoO!!
@@Sockwellthe pool feels faster than ever but our blocks aren’t the best for racing so expect some shenanigans during the meet
