What y’all think about this? Is it okay to be fat? And is there a fine line between acceptance and improvement? Let’s start a thread ⬇️ And for more frequent uploads, check out my second channel - GEN+: youtube.com/@moreGEN
I have a slower metabolism than my siblings and my dad when he was younger, I got incredibly fat during Covid. I gained over 20 pounds and what it took for me to realize it was bad was when I went for a walk with my mom. She outlasted me despite her age. I lost 17lbs and I go to the gym when I can. I’m not the most fit or anything but the question can change from is it okay to be fat, to is it acceptable to be physically unhealthy/unfit. Because you owe it to yourself to be better, I promise even when it is tough you will feel better. When it’s hot, when you do anything physical, you’ll thank yourself. That can often be a very strong form of self love.
I feel the body positivity movement initially was to highlight all body TYPEs, like big boned, thicker, muscular, types. Not morbidly obese people. There is a line that is crossed.
@@menelikkwhite2087 if that’s the case then why don’t other videos, not even his own videos, so this? Good tales come by rather rarely, and it’d be unrealistic to interview hundreds of people to get a video worth of them.
Acceptance doesn’t mean stopping making improvements. You can accept where you’re at, but also push to be better at the same time. Accepting your body means knowing your body is unique, understanding its current state now, and caring enough about yourself to make your body healthier.
Exactly, I'm an alcoholic in recovery and the only way you can start improving yourself is by accepting that you are one. But that is just the first step, you still have the improvement to do. Fat acceptance movement stop at the first step and think it's all gonna be ok.
Agreed. However, today in the US, when most people promote acceptance, they are pushing the idea that "you're perfect the way you are." In other words... "no improvement necessary." Btw... I'm super fat and slowly improving.
I’m not against fat people, I just don’t like the arrogant ones who walk around half naked and expect the rest of us to say “Yessss, slay queen”… I’m sick of it.
Same here. I used to be a fat (125 kg at 6 ft 2 back then) person before, but rather than glorifying it, I took my ass to the gym and made a change. First step is to realize it is a problem, and fat acceptance deny the problem in the first place.
I am fat and I would have definitely answered 'No it is unhealthy to be fat. No argument!' . But I am eating really healthy, doing 18:6, working out and already lost 16kg. I am on my way to my healthiest version. It's self respect and respect to people who care about me.
diffrence between u and other fatties... u are doing something. u are trying to improve urself and u know u are unhealthy. u are a good example. it shouldnt be a problem to be fat, but it should be a problem if u stay fat.
I think being fat is "ok" in the same sense it's "ok" to be depressed: People shouldn't be ashamed or ostracized for it but loved and supported since it's an unhealthy condition and MUST be addressed for a better quality of life. P.S. I'm both
100% agree, you phrased it perfectly. One of the first steps to improving yourself is accepting that something might not be right but like you said, not in a shameful way. Hope you feel much better and wishing you the best!
Did being fat make you depressed or being depressed make you fat? I guess figuring out which one is the chicken and which one is the egg could be a start to ending both.
@@numberpirate In my personal experience, and I believe in the vast majority of cases, my depression caused me to gain weight and then my physical appearance became a source of anxiety and regret which then caused depression spirals that in turn made me gain more weight. It becomes a vicious cycle hard to get out of.
Being confident in your own skin is separate from living a nutritionally healthy lifestyle. The body positive movement is supposed to help ppl recognize their worth does not come from their weight or outer appearance. Living a healthy lifestyle is separate from that. You can be confident in an overweight body but also recognize that it’s not healthy. This is where there is a major discrepancy in our culture today. And yes we should be able to be lovingly honest with each other about it. Telling my friend that her hair is crazy and she needs to fix it before going out doesn’t mean I think she’s ugly or a bad person. It means I want her to know that something is off and needs to change before she goes out into the world and gets crazy looks from everyone and further embarrasses herself lol. It’s a similar concept: “I love you so I’ll tell you the hard truth bc I actually care about you and I’m not gonna let you walk out into the world hurting yourself.”
It's insane how quickly we went from "fat is unhealthy, lose weight" to "fat is healthy and beautiful and no one should ever stop eating 4,000 calories a day"
2014 was "Gay people should be allowed to marry each other" And only 5 years later it's "We need to teach kindergartners about sex and gender and Pedophile is now a slur" My point? Give bad people an inch and they'll sprint off with it for miles.
As a person who is fat, I will say it is NOT OK TO BE FAT. Loving oneself does not mean letting go. It means knowing your worth and working on improving yourself wherever that is. Physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health makes a whole person. ❤
u can be fat and healthy. No one is letting go … there’s skinny people that eat like shit and don’t go to the gym and are anorexic so respectfully stfu
I’m overweight and I’m trying to lose weight. Do I think I should be able to feel good about myself during the process? Yes. Do I think I should be content staying fat? No. I think you can have a little extra fat on you and be totally fine. But morbidly obese isn’t something I want to be anymore and I have a hard time believing that a lot of people are really okay with it too. Going shopping with my thinner friends has always been a nightmare. Like yeah, my vitals and blood work are great, but I’m still overweight. Maybe this is a bit shallow, but it’s not just about health for me. Yeah I want to feel good, but I also want to look good. I want to be able to walk into any store at the mall and be able to find clothes that fit me. I finally got a gym membership this year and am focusing on being strong, not skinny. I’ve already lost 35 pounds and I’m proud of myself for it
I agree great for you and hope you can keep up a great workout , some tips I recommend is the stair master or cycling and also a change of diet will probably help a lot to ! Here’s to the start of something new 🥂 cheers
Can you explain to me why i took you long to get a gym membership? as you said "finally this year" Since i'm trying to help a friend out i'd like to know why.
There is nothing wrong with that. Wanting to look nice for yourself is a form of self love. Just make sure you're not going too far and you're still prioritizing health. Don't let people shame you for wanting to look good. Just don't tear yourself down while you work on getting in shape. Set your goals, achieve them and celebrate your achievements. Don't compare to others only compare to yourself.
I fat shamed myself. I lost 70 pounds and now feel great. I only eat Whole Foods. Some call it Keto. I call it proper. I wish others would try what I did. It is really clear to me since learning how different foods affects us all. But, telling others is difficult because we all are our own individuals. Hopefully, more people find a healthier way to eat.
No. Whole foods and Keto is not same thing at all. But if you start healthy keto you´ll better eat only whole woods. I´ve been on keto now 9 months and haven´t eated more than 20 grams of net carbs per day to stay on ketosis. I did eat whole foods before keto as well and i still gained weight becouse i weren´t on ketosis. I ate too much of grains like whole grain rye bred, potatoes, brown rice, pasta and all of that stuff that have carbs. Didn´t work for me. Healthy keto or carnivore are the best ways to lose weight without doing anything else but change diet. In ketosis we burn fat for fuel 24/7 so what could be more effective?!
@@jimmckay2337 Yes of course, but there is so much in whole foods that are not keto and kick you out ketosis. That´s the reason why i opened up. Most of the fruits doesn´t fit in keto either, becouse too much carbs and carbs turns to glucose. Just for the point that if someone wfo doesn´t know the differences gets confused.
@@ArchieArpeggio what fruits can you eat on a Keto plan? cause iirc all fruit has carbs in a sugar form. I have tried keto in the past by always failed as I love fruit and miss it when I tried keto
@@cybertonto72avocado. Some red Peppers. Some Nuts like peanuts and almonds (though too much obviously wouldn’t be ideal either plus almonds have this other thing preventing from eating too much of which is them being high in oxalates so some people soak almonds to get rid of the oxalates but soaking could get rid of other things too so I personally consume around 10 almonds per day I sometimes don’t have any sometimes i have more but average probably 10 for breakfast usually it feels very filling. Also fresh tomatoes, I have cherry tomatoes like 3-4 on the days I have them, which is around 3 days per week. Cucumbers as well. (Yes they are fruits) Olives are good as well. Again, you should research how much you should have daily. I don’t have them every day but once every 2-3 days and when I do, I have around 7-10 green olives. If you already use a lot of olive oil for cooking though, I wouldn’t recommend this coz I don’t usually use olive oil when cooking so what i get is from eating the olive itself, I don’t get the oil of it from other meals as well. Natural Coconut meat (inside white edible part) is also a low carbs fruit, coconut water/juice also low carb, and the edible part is high fat so suits keto diet, obviously does have low amount carbs still so should check it out to eat appropriate amount. Bare in mind I’m talking about raw unprocessed unsweetened coconut meat and coconut water/juice, many products claiming to be these sadly aren’t. I think keto diet usually regulates berries and citrus fruits like lemons but I personally don’t consume these much i have berries around once every 2-3 months so it’s not something i can really talk about much, I do a diet very that’s like in between keto and carnivore, it’s a high fat low carb high protein diet but I do it for weight gain so i do it a bit differently to classic keto. There’s a diet called raw primal diet, i do it very similar to that. It’s low carbs high fat, i do the high protein version but i have nuts as well which this diet to my knowledge doesn’t include usually, and the order i do it is different as theirs is a juice (celery stick juice), meat + fats (this fats part can be avocado, raw grass fed unsalted unpasteurised butter, raw bone marrow), then milkshake which is a mix of raw eggs and raw milk/raw kefir/raw clabber, sometimes people on the raw primal diet add raw honey into it too though i don’t have honey anymore because honey is high sugar and high carb. Then they repeat this order. And after 4 day cycle of this, they take a 2 day break eliminating all animal meat (not animal based products but i mean the meat part in the second meal is removed and it goes juice, fat, milkshake, repeat. Then after 2 days, the whole process is repeated. I don’t do this one but I the things I consume and how I consume it (usually raw) is nearly the same, but the order is different.

As an obese 54yr old woman, I am so tired of the misinformation that the fat acceptance movement spreads on a daily basis. I started this year at 257lbs with a BMI of 47 but on the 13th of January, I decided that I wanted to change my lifestyle for the better and cut out any carbs with the exception of non starchy vegetables and I no longer get processed foods, fried food or fast food. On February 8th, I purchased a compact stationary bike and started exercising 30 minutes every morning. I also started walking my dog 30 minutes every day on March 22nd. People can't say that they are fat or obese and healthy, if they are young they aren't feeling the effects yet of what their food choices are doing to their organs and their arteries. They don't understand what is going on metabolically in their body, to fight to keep their blood pressure and labs normal. If they don't make changes in their 20s, they will end up like me with high blood pressure, non alcoholic fatty liver disease, chronic kidney disease and arthritis from all the pressure their weight is putting on their joints. So far I have reached my 1st short term goal of losing 10% of my body weight with a BMI of 42.4 and I have started a new short term goal of another 10% and I am going to continue setting them until I reach my goal weight of 136 lbs with a BMI of 24.9.
My brother in law is only 32 and has kidney failure and high blood pressure. He lost 100 lbs after finding out and is feeling much better but the damage is already done.
It's fine to be chubby or have a few extra pounds if it isn't affecting someone's ability to have a normal life. But people who are so overweight they start suffering from cardiovascular problems, metabolic problems, joint problems .. no that's not okay.
@@Scorpy666 maybe if she was built like the "thicc" Latina chick, in the video at 5:50 most of her fat was in the right places ( not on her waist). Also my grammar is bad. I don't know whether to type "her fat was in the right places" or "most of her fat were in the right places"
@Scorpy666 "most". So you acknowledge that some will happily date a thicker girl. What my comment was about as the people that can't go up stairs or complete a task without getting winded. A few extra pounds here and there isn't bad at all
I was Fat….it was hard…i kept on saying “it’s okay “ but deep inside I wasn’t okey…health wise I wasn’t okey, mentally wise I wasn’t okey. People only say “it’s okay to be fat” because we can scape the reality that we are lazy. Now i am more confident that i lost 24kg,healthier and more happier.❤
This take. I USED to be feel like "oh, my weight is normal. Life is doable, and i am content". Sure i wanted to be aesthetically more desirable, but i was cool being a bigger guy. Then i dropped 50lbs in '19......the difference in my quality of life was drastic. Getting in and out of cars, putting on clothes, MY BALANCE and ability to move overall, and my favorite.....not feeling like i am taking up an obscene amount of space in public. Energy levels. I even remember the first time i did a full body weight pull up was when i dropped down in weight. i was ecstatic! My whole life, i was never able to do that. AS a kid, i was always jealous of the other kids who could fling themselves on the jungle gym, while i could barely hold on. Now im flinging myself upwards on a pull up bar. It made me excited to discover this new world available to me. Like what else is doable for me now? The amount of things that improved for me all from simply shedding weight. then there is also the crippling fear i have of type ii diabetes, which does run in my family.....
I'm glad you came to that realization and woke up, some people feed themselves with delusions and say its okay to be fat. But deep down all of us have a sense of consciousness that always says whats not right deep down and what you need to fix in your life. Some people ignore this and say it's okay but in reality it is not and sometimes being honest with yourself hurts sometimes but you should own up to it and try and do something about it . We only live once so rather be the best version of yourself and be happy then be the the worst version
Something to be noted here. How i convinced people around me to go to the gym was by going myself and letting them see the results on my body and confidence. They wanted to come with me on their own. Not when I told them they need to go to the gym because they're out of shape etc.
Literally the same happened to me. My friends hated going to the gym, when they saw me getting results they started going to the gym and now they love it.
I mean if we wanna talk about it these people don't want to make the changes necessary or put the work in, so they try to lower the value of a skinny or healthy person to raise their own values- it's narcissistic and twisted, tbh. some people don't want to change, but they want to be viewed the way they view themselves, and that just ain't gonna happen when you think you're a 10 and you're really a 5.
This is insanely high quality content, not only because of the well thought-out editing, but also because of the pleasingly non-offensive tone it's made in. An absolute gem of a channel, no pun intended ;)
This vid is just mint. The ending message had me tearing up. 9 years ago I was 300 pounds with back pain. I decided to do something about my diet and started to lift weights and be more active in general. now I'm under 200 pounds and at the healthies I've ever been. I couldn't be happier.
I'm 6' and 210 lbs. I was 233 in the fall of last year. I didn't start trying to lose weight until February of this year. I haven't been obese, but additional weight has exacerbated my knee issues, killed my cardiovascular endurance, and I noticed just how damn lazy I was. It's not just about you. Get healthy for those you love.
I have a lot of respect for that one person that said she stepped away from the body positivity because health problems are a thing, it's great to see someone take a step forward
My only problem with the whole "is being fat ok" situation is that there's a group of people who are trying to force the "fat is beautiful" agenda. If you want to be overweight, whether it's healthy or not, please do. But DON'T force me to agree that you're beautiful; beauty is subjective. I don't expect to be attractive to everyone and nor should I be forced to find everyone else attractive.
I don’t think anyone is forcing you to feel any way about fat people. Feeling beautiful is for the individual because self love is the key to positive change. Self loathing isn’t. Feeling confident in your body doesn’t require everyone to be attracted to you. I don’t think many people expect everyone or insist everyone be attracted to them. There will almost always be someone who will find a person attractive. They’re beautiful in their eyes and that’s all that matters.
@@mercurialshift5793 I mean the word fatphobia got created in the recent years because people are pushing back this idea that "fat is beautiful" should be accepted by the society.
@@unknowniam121 If you feel the need to attack people for their weight, you’re just a petty bitch. If a fat person being confident pisses you off, you’re just a really odd, mean little man. Lol. Nobody is trying to get fat because they think it’s more beautiful. It’s only about helping people feel confident and not hate on themselves. Because we live in a society with very strict beauty standards through commercialism and social media and are constantly reminded of every possible thing we could be insecure about. Especially females. So no we aren’t going to bully people for being overweight. Encouraging a healthy lifestyle is not related to shaming people for their appearance. Maybe men should be more supportive of one another like women are trying to be and stop arguing over whose balls are bigger and who is more alpha.
@ThatsMyStyle799 The problem is a lot of times now if you dont agree that fat is beautiful even to you personally people automatically assume you are fatphobic. Even if you kindly and only out of concern tell someone who is fat that they should loose weight, you can get attacked for it which i think is the main issue. Most people dont agree that being overly fat is ok but the loud minority who take it to the extereme seem band together and attack people who think otherwise. The word in my opinion dosent make sense. Im not scared of fat people. I am fat myself. Im 94kg. Ive been "fat shamed" my whole life as im from India and asia in general has terrible beauty standards. But I didnt let it affect me. thats what the movement is truly about. accepthing youself but to do that you need to see that there is a problem with yourself if so many people tell you that its not good to be so fat.
@@unknowniam121I agree with this although I do think fatphobia is real. I remember I made friends with this girl back in 8th grade. we got on great and hung out together sometimes. Then I would introduce her to my bestie who is noticeably a larger gal. She would always look uncomfortable and if I took both of them to a restaurant, she would give my larger friend recommendations to be "helpful" (basically telling her to eat healthier by suggesting healthier options) that doesn't sound too bad right? WRONG. It only got worse. She would look at her in disgust and tell me mean things about her when it was just us alone. She used to even go so far as to complain when she was even an inch close to her in photos and tell her to respect her space, meanwhile she was all up in my personal space in photos. I honestly don't regret cutting lines with her, she was a dick lol.

I am from Germany and was on vacation in the US between universitiy and school. I went there for 6 Weeks and 4 of wihich i was on the road camping we ate a lot in restaurants but also fast food but we also cooked for our self there. But when i came Back from vacation i had gained weight from 140 pounds to 200, i gained 60 pounds in 60 weeks, and without changing my eating patterns, 2 weeks later i weight 165 pounds. In essence: i went from under weight to obese in 6 weeks in the US only 2 of them in LA, and 4 camping! PS: Yes the food in the US is less healthy for you then the EU. I also heard that Heartburn is regular thing for many americans, which absolutly supports that fact!
You are not the first European to come over and have an experience like this that I’ve seen. Do you think it is the preparation of the food? The ingredients? The portions? Caloric densities? Is there anything you noticed specifically that you think might cause this sort of weight gain from your own experience?
@ohgeezrick2019 fat and sugar content, but probably because we went to in and out like 8 times 5×5 animal style burgers there. But on the other hand the energy density in all the other food we ate on vacation was also extremely high. Might also have to do with the fact that i was Raised to always eat up, so gut feeling if i am full was always secondary to eating up. Would probably have to learn to stop eating when the plate is not cleaned yet. We walked a lot less and drove a lot more around, too
Not saying your story is fake but losing 35 pounds in 2 weeks seems pretty far fetched my man especially since you said you didn't change your eating habits
@jonathananleu5844 well that's the thing a bout energy density, I didn't eat more or less , but the amount calories I consumed was far higher in the US then in Germany so from a nutritional standpoint a I very much changed eating habits.
I knew i was not the only one. So i noticed something similar back in February. I am from the US. NYC to be exact. I went on vacation to Trinidad, and basically tried to live and eat as the locals do. 15 lbs disappeared in 19 days. I was not making an effort to eat healthy, and if anything i picked up a bad drinking habit. lol, but the quality of food out there, as well as the options available to you was astonishingly different. What's worse is how within just 2 weeks of being back, i already noticed a pudge in my tummy and sure enough...the weight returned.
One can accept one's body and still want to make changes to it. This is concept that will blow many people's minds due to how emotionally charged this topic is. Acceptance is simply being content with something in the moment, it doesn't mean you lose all ambition or hopes for the future. Most mountain climbers can accept that they are average climbers, but some also hope to improve themselves to scale Everest.

I am officially Obese and in February of this year I had an appointment with a doctor to do a procedure to either do a gastric bypass or put a ball inside my stomach to influence an aggressive weight loss, after getting the price for the whatever procedure I wanted to do I was shocked and sad at the same time. Eventually I decided to workout even more aggressively than I used to workout. Nutrition is the most important in your weight loss. Basically without working out, you can lose weight by being in a deficit and eating enough protein. You should watch this. Working out is a bonus for your health and strength.
It's okay to say you don't care if your fat, it's your life. Let's just not kid ourselves and pretend it doesn't come with extreme complications that only get worse the older you get.
@@hassathunter2464 ESPECIALLY THE STARVING KIDS OVER UNEQUAL FOOD DISTRIBUTION. And the doctors with permanent back damage from carrying fat people to the lab. Or the medicines we need to pay through taxes. The list goes ON.
I'm fat. I like the idea that people won't look at me in disgust, BUT I think it's so dangerous to create the illusion that it's wrong to be aware of the health risks. No one's perfect. Pretending that our flaws aren't flaws does nothing positive for anyone.
Most of us don't look at fat people with disgust (except if you have a quadruple chin, can't walk with your legs and are smelly because you can't wash yourself properly with all that body mass). Most of us kinda don't care at all about bodyweight except with ourselves and the ones we love. But it's more about care than for appearance.
Exactly! Personally, I do think fat people are beautiful. I won't call them ugly, but I will call them overweight. Body fat can be healthy (obese vs thick) and there's a certain limit where it becomes unhealthy and lowers your lifespan. I want my beautiful people to live long, healthy lives.
The physical appearance is the last of the concerns with obesity in my opinion, there are literally so many reasons why its problematic. You take up more space in public areas, you tire really quickly, any physical activity becomes a nightmare, your joints weaken faster, you become slave to your own body, constantly need others to accommodate you and you depend on them, some people even become very irritable and complain all the time, in extreme cases you can't even fit into a car and need a 24/7 nurse to do even most basic human things. All these things are aside from the medical conditions like heart conditions, diabetes, shortened life span etc.
I really appreciate you tackling controversial, or polarized, topics that most journalists are too PC or too afraid to address. Great show! Keep it up!
I’ve made like 1 comment ever in 10+ yrs of TH-cam but I can’t not say your content is honestly just so good. Love it and can’t wait to see what’s to come
I think there is a big difference between "being fat is ok" to shaming someone. It is ok to tell someone you're concerned for them, but they are also ok to exist. The shaming I received was never about concern, and I developed an eating disorder because of it. Many people do. Its not about concern or health when someone shames you, it is not effective.
Very true, calling a fat person a piece of shit and names while telling them to go hit the gym isn't really effective, it's like a teacher calling a kid who fails in class a dumbass and telling them to study, it might motivate some to make a change but generally.. they are just gonna end up clouded by judgement and stay where they are because they are afraid to touch on the topic concerning their body, BECAUSE they got insulted FOR their body
yup, I read soo many comments where someone was bullied and now gaslight themself to say it was an 'eye-opener'. Nobody deserve to be bullied because of size or any other stupid reasons. Those bullies never cared about you. If they did they would help you or show concern.
As someone who has gastroparesis, and struggles to keep down 500 calories a day of whole clean non-processed foods, I have been fat shamed nearly to death. And when I have been so thin from disease progression that I am at risk of having a picc-line or j-tube placed, people around me say I look beautiful. Meanwhile I am vomiting up my water and bone broth. I am actually healthier and at less of a risk for heart failure due to gastroparesis caused malabsorption and malnutrition at 190 pounds, than I am at 107 pounds. 107 was my lowest weight, 215 was my highest and it was due to my body being in starvation mode and holding onto everything. I was in severe calorie deficit. That's the nature of gastroparsis for some of us. It's not like I was stuffing my face, and because I was always vomiting, in severe pain, I was bed ridden. Who can exercise like that? Yet people look at me who don't know my situation and say "stop stuffing your face!" I don't even remember what some of my favorite foods taste like. I don't go to restaurants, events or family gatherings because people can't understand why I am so sick all of the time. I can't eat anything there. I am ostracized by society and I just want to be accepted as I am. Of course I don't want to be fat, or too thin ..but sometimes there is nothing that can be done with certain medical conditions, and who on the outside can tell who has what?! I just want to eat an effing banana, or a slice of bread, or some hummus without ending up in the damn ER!!
I think direct shaming is counterproductive and mean spirited. But societal shaming just works. Humans do crazy things to fit in, we can sure as hell eat a little healthier and exercise if it would get us to fit in. We have direct evidence that societal shaming works in many countries. But direct shaming is just bullying, unless it’s family/friends and you value openness
Direct shaming is not okay because there’s no need for other people to talk about anyone’s body. However I do think it’s the JOB of their health care providers to address health concerns including potential future issues if they don’t lose weight. My own situation is a perfect example- I have family members with type 1 diabetes but because I am overweight, I developed type 2 diabetes. I was always at a risk for diabetes but my weight and the nutritional choices I made, put me in the type 2 risk category. I ended up going on a low carb diet where I’ve substituted processed foods for more natural options and have LOST 40 lbs, got taken off my diabetes medication, and generally FEEL better. For me it’s not about my appearance but about my overall health. I do not want to be on meds, I don’t want to put more pressure on my pancreas and end up on insulin. I needed someone like my doctor to break all these things down for me and she saved my life.
I saw a TikTok of an orange Fanta from the US vs one from the UK and omg the difference in the amount in sugar was crazy! US one had 72g of sugar while the UK one had 22g!! They are force feeding us sugar it's ridiculous! I had a Snickers bar for the 1st time in years the other day and could hardly eat it cause it was waaay sweeter then I remember! And I have a sweet tooth! The fact it was too sweet for me is telling that they've been adding more sugar to crap. Also in the US insulin is very expensive so they probably want all of us to get diabetes 🙄
it's not OK to dislike or bully people because they are fat, people shouldn't feel like they are less of a person because they are fat, but there are obvious health benefits from not being fat so promoting a healthy lifestyle to encourage people to do something about being fat should also be a priority, It's important to remember two things here: 1: it's not always someone's fault they are fat, I know people who have health conditions that require them to be on medication (for example epilepsy) that causes fatness as a side effect, these people might not be able to do anything about being fat, it's not they're fault and they shouldn't be treated badly for it 2: Everyone's body is different, some people will be large for they're entire life because of the way they are made, but large and obese are different, we shouldn't be promoting a body image that some people can't achieve or maintain easily, this just leads to destroying peoples mental health. You can be overweight to a certain extent and still be healthy and active and not gaining weight, it should be up to a doctor to tell people when they should do something about it, for example the lady at 0:21 says she is fat, she is large but she is not unhealthy fat, if she isn't gaining weight she doesn't have to change anything to be healthy. The man who says "you can be healthy and still be bigger" has it right, but you can't be healthy and obese It is a fine line. We cant tell people they are OK even tho they are unhealthy, that is bad for them long term, but we also can't tell people that they have to look like (insert unrealistic target here) in order to be healthy, because it is simply not true

I'm a 5'6" middle eastern woman. Always did swimming, strength training, aerobics, 5k.... and was between 125 lbs-130 lbs for years. But I was still depressed and had IBS. Then met friends who took me out a lot to help me cope with my depression. We ate out 3 to 4 times a week (no drinking!) But i was experiencing different food : mexican, japanese, indian, ...etc. So, I was associating food with too much comfort. Then , the lockdown and rear ended twice within short time... and my physical activites declined along with being on pain medication for years.. I hit 210 lbs !! Managed to go down to 165 lb with diet and exercise. Then diagnosed with auto immune disorder, and the meds caused more problems. Currently, I'm at 180 lbs, but still pushing myself to eat more anti inflammatory diet and still exercise and focus on Mediterranean diet.
Thanks for bringing the awareness. I feel like 'acceptance' has arguably gone too far in many aspects of life to the level that impedes self improvement
I gained so much weight up to 86kg and I'm 5'7, during the pandemic. I was like, I'll just accept it and just be happy. But I felt miserable. Had trouble catching my breath when i walked and realized I was in denial that i was happy. Lost a lot of weight back to 64kg and i couldn't be happier.
Alright so here’s my take on this matter: So I have been an ally towards body positivity for some time now. I know that it does not speak for everyone, which is fine. But I am all for diversity and people being comfortable in their own skin. I also believe that there is no such thing as a “perfect” body. Plus I’m also one of those guys who likes bigger women. As I agree with most of the surface of things, I painfully am very much aware that being morbidly obese (to an extent) isn’t really healthy. However, that doesn’t stop me from finding someone plus size attractive. I also completely HATE body shaming. Because it’s just not exactly a right thing to do to someone. Sure there’s the constructive criticisms, but shaming in general is NOT fun at all. Also I know that people can suffer from starvation-like eating disorders because of having such a fear of having just a little bit of chub. Which is something that breaks my heart to see, because I almost feel into one years ago. So to the likes of me when it comes to body positivity… one doesn’t have to be a certain colour, height, shape or any other way in order to be beautiful. Simply be your own kind of beautiful! Now yes, it’s okay for someone to change if that’s what THEY want. And it’s also okay to embrace how they are into the moment. As long as they can take care of their wellbeing and remind themselves that they are AWESOME! Also someone once told me that self-acceptance is just as important than self-improvement. With a balance of the two can make a powerful team.
Self acceptance is actually the first step to not improving. The moment you accept your mediocrity and inadequacies is the moment you tend to stop seeing as one. I was skinny in high school, and for a long time, I was feeling bad about it, and nothing happened until I stopped accepting it and decided to hit the gym. What I think you mean is not being delusional about your image.
I think it moreso depends on the person and how they need to cope to change/not change. What works for others may not work for you and that's okay. Self acceptance personally helped me progress a lot. Self acceptance leads to caring about yourself. Caring about yourself leads to wanting to be healthier.
that's only if you can think it positively. The key here is balance. Too much self acceptance is bad, but if you have a healthy push to at least get you started, but not too much self loathing to where you're too stressed to do anything, that's bad.
Totally agree with the girl who said heart disease etc is real. In the UK we have a saying - misery loves company. I've been a UK size 16-18 I'm now a size 12. I was not happy bigger I couldn't do activities, I was self conscious in photos. Biggest accomplishment for me now I am healthier was walking up a great number of steps in Greece to see the monastery and view. Being bigger is okay, but populating the message that it's healthy simply isn't true and just think of what you're missing out on - love yourself enough to have great experiences, eat nutritious food and be able to be active you deserve to be healthy.
I am fat and on a weight loss journey. It wasn't always this way but you have to accept where you are now and just work towards where you want to be. Good luck to anyone else who's trying to lose weight or do something to improve their health, wealth - and over all life. One day, we will look back and thank ourselves for making the decision to change.
This! It's not that rational people hate obesity. It's that we hate stagnancy in such state by settling down with less. You are a perfect example of a person with the mentality that should be cheered and celebrated. And I totally understand the struggle. It gets easier once you start seeing the bigger changes in the mirror and more importantly mentaly and physically (related to health). I was fat half of my life and decided to actually do something about it, so I lost more than half of my weight during my 20s and I can say that it was one of the best decisions in my life. This September I'll finally be completely free of this mental and physical trauma (it stays with you for sure), as I decided to get all my excess skin removed (sadly, after more than 20 years of being fat, even after 10 years of being slim doesn't let your skin shrink back). Anything is possible if you strongly decide to achieve it!
I've just seen a few of your videos, and your interviewing skills are very unique. You're getting people to talk and to explain why they think that way, and without a bias. Your interest in why people believe in things that are just scientifically wrong, but societally accepted, is more interesting because you are trying to find out why
Thanks for consistently being unbiased, as well as showing different angles (like the link between the profitability in health care). Definitely the most open minded social commentator I’ve seen! Great work
I used to weigh over 180 lbs, which was overweight for me. It was during the worst year of my highschool life where all I felt was depression and hatred for myself. I would practically only eat sugar and I'd snack all day long. Once I didn't fit into the clothes I loved anymore and just felt disgusted with myself I decided to lose weight. It took a year of fast and slow progress until I lost 60 lbs. I had no idea just how much weight that was until I looked at the weight on the feed bags we get which was only 50 lbs. It scared me to realize how all that weight felt when carrying those, to think my body had to carry that burden.
Some people don't understand other than laziness there could be a number of reasons for someone to be fat and fat shaming is a terrible method to motivate somebody healthy and it works opposite many of the times. Also, there should be distinction between being obese or gained a few pounds cuz people take anything to extreme and start saying lose weight to somebody who was going to do that anyway in the long run. I think many people are just disgusted by fat people and fat shame them which does not come from concern but disgust and does more harm than good. Moreover, in my opinion people should be accepting of their body but also try to make themselves healthy, like I don't hate myself for having extra 4 kgs on me but I also know that I need to fix it. In last people should be more empathetic and compassionate towards themselves and others and strive for better health.
god you're so underrated. Please keep this up!! Every video of yours that comes out is just another masterpiece in my eyes. And the things you talk about are exactly what needs to be confronted today. Always appreciate your videos and how well they're put together! Thanks :D
My dad last year was 360lbs, he is 60 and is hovering at around 290lbs right now. It is never too late to change but you have to be willing to look at yourself and admit that there is a problem.
Gen, fam. I am so impressed with your development as a creator. The storyline, the visuals, the interjections with your opinion, the broll, text on screen… all the details don’t go unnoticed. You deserve all your success and growth and more my guy. So much fun to be behind the camera for part of this video with you. Keep rocking it 🎉
i think being chubby/overweight/somewhat fat is perfectly fine. it becomes a problem, in my opinion, when it comes obesity. more specifically when it starts putting people's health in danger.
As a chubby person I was made fun of by friends and it helped me to lose weight and to start doing sports again and stuff so I think it has to be a balance between exceptence but pushing people to be their best healthiest self which doesn’t necessarily mean skinny but more healthy and fit
I lost 25kg of fat and still have about another 10ish to go. I feel 1000000 times better. Making and eating my own food from ingredients makes a huge difference. So much sugar in everything It’s also genuinely nice to have someone not cut out when people say good positive things. Subbed.
seeing Gen go from 500 subs to 80k is so cool! keep it up man - always bringing up important stuff and getting the conversation started about such an important topic!
@@GEN Keep doing what you're doing! Your production of videos is great and you just come off as genuine good dude that does his homework about the topics you cover. I won't be surprised if you reach 500k+ subs by the end of summer
This is the third video of yours that I've watched. To be honest, it fills me with hope, and I feel like I could be friends with the people you interview. I've always felt certain ways about the topics you've made videos on, and it's a very good feeling to know there are still plenty of open minded individuals out there, even if they lean one way or another.
As someone who use to be heavy, I had people like that tell me that "Your perfect the way you are" or "don't lose weight you're fine!". I was having body aches, couldn't even ride my horses, hell I couldn't even walk up stairs without being out of breath. Those people who tell you that being fat is okay, fuck them. They don't honestly care about you. They want you to be miserable for what ever reason. It was awful, and I'm so glad that I lost weight for my own health and now I want to be stronger. I feel better, and I wish more people would be honest and say to others "Hey I noticed you're having trouble breathing, do you want to talk about it?" Or "Do you want to go on a walk with me" subtle hints.. like that would be amazing. Stop lying to others, you're only hurting them.
My dad was fat, like not super overweight but he had a tummy, we used to eat lots of ice creams. It got to a point where my father started to develop high cholesterol and diabetes. My father did a 180° turn, no more fry things, no more fast food, and most important no more sugar. In my country is common to drink fruit juices with sugar instead of water, he had to drop them, also the ice creams, he lost many weight, like he is now in the skinny side. As my father changed his habits all the family did with him, we dropped the same things but we are not as strict as him. And I can say sugar is the worst thing you can eat, only with dropping sugar you feel much better and you lost weight fast. I recommend dropping sugar as much as you can, don't eat dessert every day and instead of sugared juices drink water or juices without sugar. Obviously you can eat sugar with moderation, I still eat a nice dessert when I go to a nice place once or twice a week, but try to replace sugared products that you don't like that much or you don't care much to replace
That’s amazing, my dad used to be like that and smoked cigars and cigarettes and drank a good amount but not like an addiction. He stopped and we now only eat our food we grow and hunt and occasionally buying a burger or pizza once a week. It’s amazing cuz I don’t even try and I’m now In good shape, but when I work out I gain a tiny amount of fat, but I am below average BMI so 🤷
It's ok to be fat but it's not ok to stay fat. Obesity is a huge issue in the modern world and people trying to convince others that it's not only ok to stay fat but healthy is harmful, I myself was obese and was convinced it was fine because I was being told so. I realised that it wasn't ok and after losing just over 100lbs I feel the best I've ever felt and hope others strive to do the same.
The "healthy obese" and "healthy at any size" group think is dangerous and is my biggest concern with the current movement. People need to pull it back to center and improvement shouldn't be demonized.
same. being overweight hurts my bones and often caused me to be fatigued on top of everything. i hated not being able to reach my full potential in sports because of my weight. i had to work 10x harder than anyone else on my team because i was the biggest. well i guess i shouldn’t say that because i don’t know what my teammates have exactly been through they could’ve had it harder than me but behind closed doors now that i think about it. but still i had to work extremely hard and i was tired of being exhausted from barely running a quarter mile. it put me down and held me back for all of my teenage years. i couldn’t wear what i wanted to wear because i was ashamed of what i looked like. i’m still on my journey too and every day i do better because i’m trying different ways to improve myself, staying focused, and staying committed. we’ve got this! 👊🏼
I hope this reaches the audience that needs it, great job! The last part of your video explaining the connection between the medical and food industry in a America is perfect. Thank you for sharing this message, you're doing amazing!! My favorite channel right now :) Hopefully you don't get shadowbanned from your content, it's needed rn more than ever
everytime.. better and better...interviewing people that are able to share clear ideas....super well presented.. a little more diversity looking at where some cultures embrace fatness and why would be great.. great work man
I like your content. It feels really true to itself. Im european so what's happening to the US it's "funny" but depressing at the same time. People dont seem to understand that working out and eating actual food give you not only more satisfaction for your improvements, but also a better health situation in the long term.
Not to mention mental health. The mental boost of not having to worry about buttoning pants or clothes sitting comfortably on your body every morning is quite the difference.
Shaming don’t work. Some overeat as a coping mechanism to deal with childhood trauma. Also a lot of foods are addictive. It’s double trouble however your health should be more important than your weight to some degree.
Your video are absolutely amazing! You ask questions that are actually intelligent, you aren't biased and you even have a laugh with the people you're interviewing. Definitely one of the most engaging and underrated creators I've watched!
The problem that body positivity addresses is when you allow yourself to base your self-worth and self-acceptance on your physique. You don't get in shape and then love yourself because you are in shape. You first accept yourself and love yourself unconditionally, and as an expression of your own love and care for yourself, you then take care of yourself with diet and exercise because you care about yourself unconditionally.
Exactly. Self loathing isn’t the healthiest way to approach making positive changes in your life. And even if, at the end of the day, you’re overweight and not the healthiest, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t feel beautiful. Getting healthy shouldn’t just be about trying to be beautiful.
Unconditional love just seems impracitcal and even dangerous. Should a paedophile love themselves for what they are? Or should they recognise the harmful predication and work to counter it?
@@Senorpoontang If a person is doing wrong, correcting themself and ceasing to do wrong is an act of love for the self in the true meaning of the word love. If you do wrong, there are material consequences, relationship consequences with others, and conflict with your own conscience. How could it be love to allow those things to happen to yourself? Doing right is the highest form of actual self-love.
@@Timblisi I don't think you're disagreeing with what I'm saying. In the same vein, surely someone who loves themselves unconditionally will not seek to change themselves?
Dude you’re honestly one of the best upcoming journalists at the moment. The way your interviews are balanced and without an agenda is really respectable!
I definitely agree that accepting the fact that you're fat and not beating yourself up over it is important. But at the same time you should be actively working to lose weight and get healthy. You can accept that your fat while at the same time working to change it. Acceptance and the desire to change can absolutely coexist
Dude, I've been binging your content for the last few hours and I've got to say, you are engaging with the right audience and asking the right questions. Each video is extremely informative and rather comprehensive for each respective run time. You gained another sub. I look forward to seeing your future content.
I think one of the first steps to improvement is genuine encouragement. A social connection develops empathy, and that empathy should motivate the encouragement to improve health. However there is also something to be said for those whose biological makeup naturally makes them "bigger". Health encompasses physical, emotional, social, and spiritual pieces and each have an equal input to your well-being.
Food and Drug Administration. The fact both of these agencies are intertwined tells you everything you need to know on why Americans are obese and who is truly pushing fat acceptance.
I think the idea is that it’s important to love yourself no matter what you are going through. It took me loving myself to love myself enough to make healthy changes for myself. But ALSO, I don’t deserve to “disappear” from life just because someone might deem me unattractive or unhealthy. It takes at least around a year (in my experience) to loose a significant amount of weight and make genuine lifestyle changes. BUT, people still deserve to love themselves, not “hide”, and enjoy their lives through it. It actually helps the process. And it’s also no one’s business what someone else’s journey is. You may never know what someone’s going through (and the hidden illnesses they are battling). So I try to have grace with people and know I am only seeing a fragment of their life and who they are. I guess… you can’t make someone change unless they want to. You also never know someone’s journey and what they’re working on. And people deserve love and deserve to “show up” in life despite their flaws. It’s kinda a self-fulfilling prophecy. The more you have true love and acceptance for yourself, the better you feel, and the better choices you make. I’m not here to beat anyone down on their journey. Also, someone who turns to food for comfort being told how awful they are just doesn’t help. Just makes them turn to more food. Or make changes out of hatred for themselves/anger… which in the end, doesn’t work. And let’s not forget, looking attractive does NOT equal being a good person. We all have things we are working on.

Yh it used to include everyone from what I remember. Now its "fatphobic" to be any other thing that obese...

W take
Exactly 🎉
Agreed. However, today in the US, when most people promote acceptance, they are pushing the idea that "you're perfect the way you are." In other words... "no improvement necessary." Btw... I'm super fat and slowly improving.
This🎉
I have been bigger and I’ve been smaller. But no matter what happens I’m still living my life to the best as I can.

💯
Good comparison. It's ok as in, you're not a bad person for it. But obviously not ideal
I think this was well said. 👍
It's insane how quickly we went from "fat is unhealthy, lose weight" to "fat is healthy and beautiful and no one should ever stop eating 4,000 calories a day"
2014 was "Gay people should be allowed to marry each other"
And only 5 years later it's "We need to teach kindergartners about sex and gender and Pedophile is now a slur"
My point? Give bad people an inch and they'll sprint off with it for miles.
Similar to going from knowing exactly what a female is, to now saying men are women.

As a person who is fat, I will say it is NOT OK TO BE FAT. Loving oneself does not mean letting go. It means knowing your worth and working on improving yourself wherever that is. Physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health makes a whole person. ❤

Can you explain to me why i took you long to get a gym membership? as you said "finally this year"
Since i'm trying to help a friend out i'd like to know why.
You have all the right to feel like that. I know the struggle all too well.

Just for the point that if someone wfo doesn´t know the differences gets confused.

(Yes they are fruits)
Olives are good as well.

Who is that? Sadly, I remember a number of them dying, but never heard about anyone stepping away from it in time. I'd love to read about it.

Yep.
@@sportyeight7769 I usually look at them like "how in the mother of fuck did you get that big bro?!?!?"
Nobody is arguing smoking is unhealthy. Then why people say being fat is healthy?
The physical appearance is the last of the concerns with obesity in my opinion, there are literally so many reasons why its problematic. You take up more space in public areas, you tire really quickly, any physical activity becomes a nightmare, your joints weaken faster, you become slave to your own body, constantly need others to accommodate you and you depend on them, some people even become very irritable and complain all the time, in extreme cases you can't even fit into a car and need a 24/7 nurse to do even most basic human things.
All these things are aside from the medical conditions like heart conditions, diabetes, shortened life span etc.

Yet people look at me who don't know my situation and say "stop stuffing your face!"
I don't even remember what some of my favorite foods taste like. I don't go to restaurants, events or family gatherings because people can't understand why I am so sick all of the time. I can't eat anything there. I am ostracized by society and I just want to be accepted as I am. Of course I don't want to be fat, or too thin
..but sometimes there is nothing that can be done with certain medical conditions, and who on the outside can tell who has what?!
I think there’s a role of pharma and snack food companies in promoting “health at every size”/obesity. Keep people sick = customers for life

it's not OK to dislike or bully people because they are fat, people shouldn't feel like they are less of a person because they are fat, but there are obvious health benefits from not being fat so promoting a healthy lifestyle to encourage people to do something about being fat should also be a priority, It's important to remember two things here:
1: it's not always someone's fault they are fat, I know people who have health conditions that require them to be on medication (for example epilepsy) that causes fatness as a side effect, these people might not be able to do anything about being fat, it's not they're fault and they shouldn't be treated badly for it
2: Everyone's body is different, some people will be large for they're entire life because of the way they are made, but large and obese are different, we shouldn't be promoting a body image that some people can't achieve or maintain easily, this just leads to destroying peoples mental health. The man who says "you can be healthy and still be bigger" has it right, but you can't be healthy and obese
It is a fine line. We cant tell people they are OK even tho they are unhealthy, that is bad for them long term, but we also can't tell people that they have to look like (insert unrealistic target here) in order to be healthy, because it is simply not true
dude, I love your content; just having a honest conversation with random people is one of the most genuine and unique forms of journalism and I love it
This Chanel is a hidden treasure! So glad I found it! Keep up the awesome work, your videos are entertaining, educative and some of them a pretty relatable. I’m excited to witness your channel become huge in no time! Much love
We need more content like this on TH-cam. Amazing message and amazing production. Keep up the great work!
Great video!
This was way better than I expected it to be. I felt everybody in this video contributed valuable information.
I appreciate that =)
This was really well done, especially talking with people from around the world and comparing the data from different countries.
bro i think your channel is so underrated . your content is so precise and of quality . hope your channel grows as it should .
Is only matter of time until this channel blows up keep up the good work
I'm a 5'6" middle eastern woman.
This channels definitely gonna blow up soon. The quality is top notch, very underrated.
I gained so much weight up to 86kg and I'm 5'7, during the pandemic. I was like, I'll just accept it and just be happy. But I felt miserable. Had trouble catching my breath when i walked and realized I was in denial that i was happy. Lost a lot of weight back to 64kg and i couldn't be happier.
how did u do it? how long did it take u
Alright so here’s my take on this matter:
So I have been an ally towards body positivity for some time now.
Beautifully said!
Ehhh... I think the struggles of being skinny and putting on gains is a little different than being obese.
I agree 100%. If you accept how you are but know theres a problem you will never change
@@F00tsie Not really skinny people are just as insecure sometimes just not unhealthy in most cases.
Keep going girl!!! ❤
Love this❤
Dude your videos are phenomenal. Keep it up
I don't understand how you only have 80k subscribers, best youtuber on the platform.
Great work
5:12 it’s like a smoker getting angry at someone who quitted lol
Please continue with these documentary videos. I recommend people to channel as often as I can because it's very eye-catching content.
god you're so underrated.
I can’t wait for this channel to blow up. This is the type of content I wanna see pushed more. Another great video Gen. ❤
Never heard of GEN before I saw this video. This guy makes some HIGH quality content. Keep it up GEN!
I agree with this one. ☝️
another gen video let's goooooooooooooo
Your videos are really so good. I pretty much drop everything and click when I see that you've uploaded.
So much sugar in everything
It’s also genuinely nice to have someone not cut out when people say good positive things. Subbed.
seeing Gen go from 500 subs to 80k is so cool! keep it up man - always bringing up important stuff and getting the conversation started about such an important topic!
damn you a real day 1
@@GEN Keep doing what you're doing!
Stop lying to others, you're only hurting them.
im hooked, your videos are so high quality and interesting ive onl watched two and im already subscribed
Good for you ❤
same. being overweight hurts my bones and often caused me to be fatigued on top of everything. i hated not being able to reach my full potential in sports because of my weight. i had to work 10x harder than anyone else on my team because i was the biggest. well i guess i shouldn’t say that because i don’t know what my teammates have exactly been through they could’ve had it harder than me but behind closed doors now that i think about it. but still i had to work extremely hard and i was tired of being exhausted from barely running a quarter mile. it put me down and held me back for all of my teenage years. i couldn’t wear what i wanted to wear because i was ashamed of what i looked like. i’m still on my journey too and every day i do better because i’m trying different ways to improve myself, staying focused, and staying committed. we’ve got this! 👊🏼
Just started watching and I love your content GEN. Non-biased and really high quality. Love the content, keep it up!

Exactly.
I’m in the same boat, absolutely love this guy’s content
I'm enjoying his content as well:)
This is incredible Journalism! Keep up the good work. You’re going to crush it!
Food and Drug Administration.
The fact both of these agencies are intertwined tells you everything you need to know on why Americans are obese and who is truly pushing fat acceptance.
Just discovered you recently and I think you've become one of my favorite TH-camrs, the quality and production of these videos is amazing man.
Your video deserves more recognition. It's very well produced.
