It’s so fun being a skinny dude and having people look at you in disbelief when you pick 405 lmao
@Suosa I'm not sure what you're trying to say. I would much rather be able to pull 405 at 120lb than I would pull 405 at 180lb (I mean obviously 120lb is too light but you see my point). Imagine how much more a person who weighs 120 could pull if they put on more mass. Would you rather look like you can lift 405 or, I dunno, actually be able to lift 405?

Martin Wendland yeah that too, well it's kind of a hybrid. I'm terrible at them.
This deadlift progression is really realistic. It takes about a year to reach a 405 pound deadlift but it takes 1 to 2 years to go from 405 to 500 naturally, and after that you will barely make any gains. Most of the progress he made was noobie gains, nothing impressive, except when compared to the average man who cant even squat 135 with full range of motion
The fact that he got 415 off the ground with the prep/test lift.
Best preworkout ever
Tell ya it's not 415pound

Noob gains. I member those days...
@J Q sumo is more like a squat than a conventional deadlift, pretty much different exercises so it's like saying you progressed from a 75lb bench press to 300lb inclined bench. It works different muscles
The reason he started with such a low weight was due to a severe back injury. He wanted to make it through a workout with no back pain, so he went at 75 x 10. That's why the next time it was at 135 x 5, he realized his back was ready for it. So in reality it was like 175 max to 405 max.
@@natas0733 still
@@Ryan-ee5lp it really isn't. I'd compare it to changing the angle on your Incline, not bench to incline

All throughout the video his form gets better and better and you can see little quirks start to develop it's pretty cool
TheTroublesomeTexan is there a reason he puts his legs so far apart and has his hands in opposite directions? I see it all the time idk why
@@Jacob-pz4ku the reason for his legs being so far apart is A: He's probably tall, because for example you're a tall person and u perform deadlifts. Your legs or maybe thighs will hit the barbell, so adjusting is key and also with the legs far apart you develop more on your legs than the posterior chain
As for the hands, i think it's called an over hand and underhand grip. It provides different grip strengts
Hope i made it clear :>
@@Jacob-pz4ku sumo deadlift and underhand overhand is a stronger grip vs over overhand
I’m wrong but Sumo deadlifts are usually for taller people with longer femurs compared to their arm length, as you can guess longer arms on deadlift are a blessing as it reduces the range to move the bar. But usually when you have long arms you have long legs too unless your a freak of nature like Sawyer Klatt(look him up he has extremely long arms but short femurs which gives him a 715 deadlift). So by pulling Sumo with a wide stance you reduce the range of motion of the bar by lowering your hips, but you still keep the benefits of the longer arms. If you want a visual demonstration look back at the video and see how far he moves the bar comparing his conventional pulls to sumo, when he pulls conventional the bar is almost at about hip level. When Max pulls sumo the bar is right above his knees at lockout, that’s a huge decrease in ROM. As we know in physics the equation for work is Work=Force x Distance, so by reducing the distance you have to move the bar on any lift, it is making you do less work.
I thought his form got worse...
Wow this is incredible. as of 11/16/20 I deadlift 225. My goal is 245 by 2021 and 400+ by the end of 2021, 500 if possible! This was a huge inspiration man.

If I could make a request can you add a time frame of dates and how much you included per exercise, like how long you did a certain weight before moving up and how long it took? Other wise this was very satisfying to watch.
I remember watching this video when I was younger. 410 seemed like a massive and unreachable number for me. My recent PR for deadlift was 405. Not there technically but.. it’s close. Shows how far I’ve come
What i tend to see on deadlifts on a lot of people is that they lose the proper form mid reps, in some of ur reps ur back curved, not a lot but something to keep an eye on
Slight lumbar curvature is not bad, besides you’re going to have some form breakdown on a 1RM.
Perhaps his butt needs to drop down more in the setup position. This will also cause the Lower legs to be straighter at the beginning. This is something a top powerlifter said for improving form and something I’m trying now myself
4:14 his toes

What about the toes? If you mean why they’re pointed towards the plates it’s because you need to do that for sumo lifting, I’m a sumo lifter (still a beginner but making progress) and you have to keep those toes pointed out
@@owen.voisey I think he meant that he should be careful with the plates and the toes. The plates might actually hit the toes and break them ...
Carolina Carmona yeah I guess you’re right I never even thought of that happening and idk why
@@owen.voisey It's one of the first things you need to pay attention to. It usually doesn't happen because most guys have a technique where they slide their feet inwards before hitting the floor with the weighted barbell or make sure that there's some space between the feet and weights. Mattdoesfitness does this inward feet technique. I think it's most used in powerlifting.

I did some silly programming mistakes and went from never deadlifting to 375 in one year. I can see someone easily doing this. I say easily- but what i mean is sticking with a schedule, eating right etc. No superhero genes required. At any rate GREAT WORK MAX! Thats a sick number to have :D
I remembered when I started to deadlift a couple of months ago. I was starting with 225 on the bar and it was easy when I lifted. I added more weight to 315 and it was at a comfortable weight that I can lift and that's when I started to realize. "Maybe I can do this to get a stronger back for squat" I got 2 45's and I was up to 405lbs. I tighten my belt a tiny bit. I got in my stance and I started slow and steady and pulled as soon the bar was 8 inches off the ground,my legs started to shake but I pulled harder and I was looking side by side at my friends amazed at what I just did. I let go the bar and it shook the floor. I was telling good when I just did 405lbs. And my max now is 450lbs
Damn bro thats a hell of a story. Write a book about this day 🙏
@@osman4945 thxs. Even if your small u could be stronger than the big guys like me. Just work hard, reach for success and never give up.
Thats a nice story
NOW OPEN UP
Should we all timestamp where he beat our PR’s?
Very beginning 😂
This is actually a great example of what is achievable in a your first year of training
There is 0 way you can go from 75 to 415 in 1 year, sorry but its not possible. Without some form of performance in hancing drugs.
@@teresagray8391 bro it is extremely possible. I did 200kg in a year and and even that isn’t considered impressive.
Did nobody else get pissed off with the way he lifts
I know at one point in this video this kid went home with a hurting back
what are you talking about his form is good
I've been deadlifting for about almost 2 months and my 1 rep max is currently 250.
1 year later, wya now?
@@j-peso1920 at home
Bruh how i increase. My max is 100 kg and i have been working on it for half a year.
Damn you’re moving big weight bro
Very important source of motivation! Instead of focusing on the mass you're actually focusing on the perfomance, and i really appreciate this!
Gymshark tshirts
SBD Knee sleeves
Dave's Hair type
Young
Same as Dave's deadlift platform
I found out that you're a fan of David Laid!
Ugh EVERYONE SWITCHES TO SUMO, I wanna see ur true conventional power.
Asian Gainz true sumo is easy money
Exactly regular deadlifts would have made it less impressive of a video😂 anything for some content.
Gavin Persuhn still fairly impressive progression though if we’re being honest
@@Squeem69 yeah definitely. Looking at his other stuff I did close to the same at his age. People are freaking out. Fairly normal if your hitting it consistently. I definitely did have that kind of time at 17.
You guys are dumbasses of you think sumo magically adds a huge amount to your deadlift. You have to perfect the technique and work at it to surpass your conventional max.
Damn and he went double overhand grip for his 1 rep maxes before he switched to sumo jeez
That was hook grip, it's like straps sorta but with his thumb
