I saw this clip last year (12/2020), this motivated me so much to get back into the gym after 3 years; and now I can squat 405lbs again. My goal now is to reach 445lbs by the end of 2021
Never squatted before using a bar, started today, my form was so shit at the start that I couldn't do one squat without moving my foot afterwards, but I kept taking criticize and tips my friend at the gym until I did a clean set today, next time I will add some weight now that I know how to do it properly while caring about my form, excited to start progressing!
Yes sir. Leave your ego and start out right and you will be amazed what you can do in a years time. I had two massive heart attacks in January 2020 and lost from 216 pound body weight to 152 pounds. It took about 18 months to start lifting again and am at around 340 for my squats. Ass to grass on anything below 300 then just below parallel on heavier stuff. My goal is 450-475 by August 2023 at 71! Keep up the good work.
I think he's more concerned about accuracy. Lifting 135lbs for reps shows that he already had some talent in the tank. Most beginner (your average skinny guy) wouldn't be able to do that.
Bro that's what's up I love seeing this stuff I barely got back into the gym and I was self conscious because I'm not the strongest but I'm dedicated to getup there! Keep up the great work man!
Hell yeah, Keep it up that's when I started working out at 16, about to be 30 now. Did my first bodybuilding competition my senior year in high school. You got a good solid frame keep at it!
I love this! I'm on the road to hitting 405 for squat for the first time. I've tried multiple times but could never get it. But this time is different, I've been working my way up to it and I feel it coming! 2-4weeks this goal will be accomplished! Thank you for such a motivating video!
@@420jettt2 he didn't go enough on 135, but the heavier lifts that counted looked to be parallel. Form improves as you progress, and if he's a powerlifter he doesn't want to get in the habit of dropping below parallel
I started squatting 135lbs for 7 reps and 10 sets. After that I moved up to 10 sets of 10 still at 135lbs. After that I moved up to two sessions, so I did a total of 20 sets which was still at 135lbs. After that I moved up to 30 sets of 10 at 135lbs; a total of 300 reps. After that I moved up to 40 sets of 135lbs at 10 reps a sets; a total of 400+ reps day after day. I rested and took some days off if needed it due to pain( the bad type of pain). I did this for about two months no more than 3 months. One day I came in the gym did 10 sets of 135lbs for 10 reps a set, then I decided to go heavy and a set of 225lbs; I did 10 reps of 225, 1 set. After that I tried out 315lbs and got it for 3 reps; the weight felt really heavy on my back but it didn’t seem to wear me out and I felt like I could have done more reps. Soon after I decided I would try 4 plates (405lbs) for 1 rep and I got it. I stopped at 405lbs because I knew there was no way I could lift anything heavier than that. Point is 2-3 months training will get your squat 1 rep max up pretty quickly if you’re constantly going to the gym
And here I am struggling to get 3 reps with 275 pounds after a year and being 200 pounds at 6ft4. Granted there were about 4 months where I wasn't trying to get stronger but still. Now that I'm actually trying it feels so insurmountable that I get stronger than I am now.
Awesome progress, congrats! I'd set your safeties to just a smidge below your depth, that way if you ever fail again you don't have to drop it off your back whilst dropping down to your knees, I know you might be fine with that now, but the heavier you get on your lifts and the older you get... it's just better practice for longevity to set up the safeties to where you can better utilize them!
About to start the gym again after 4 years off, scared to see where my squat is at the moment but this is some motivation 👍 Goal for me is 4 plates in a year also, wish me luck lol
