I was in Japan for the 2002 World Cup... still remember that Inamoto goal vs Belgium like it was yesterday. Kids who were inspired by the 1998 and 2002 squads may well end up forming the Golden Generation in the next two World Cups for Japan.
I come from China but I agree with the idea. And I watched how Japan’s football level improved in more than 2 decades. The distance between China and Japan is becoming larger. Japan’s first world cup is 1998. That time the Asia Playoff was so close and hard. For Japan they beat Iran in 1 goal and for China just missed a penalty. In 2002 Japan holds a world cup and up to top 16. But that’s the only time China take in world cup and finally got the 31th. Since 1998 Japan doesn’t missed anyone to take in the world cup and in 2010, 2018 they are close to up to quarter finals. I support Japan in world up and Yasuhito Endo is one of my fav player. These are just what makes deep impressions for me and let me think about that. 🇨🇳 🤝 🇯🇵 ⚽️⚽️
I think it's a tremendous achievement for the Japanese National Team to even be able to compete against their heroes like Ronaldo & Kaka. I think Japanese Football in the short amount of time it's been established has proceeded forward exceedingly well.
congratulations japan! i am a big fan of your football, and i also think a lot of South Americans like me thinks that too, we owe you a lot for Captain Tsubasa anime, it inspired generations of children to play this glorious sport.
Sean Hossain WTF, WWWWWHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYY????!!!!!!! WHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYY????!!!!! YOU IMBECILE!!!! YOU RUINED THE UNREPLIEDNESS OF A COMMENT!!!! THANKS A LOT MAN!!!!!!
As an American, it's a parallel to see a team like the Japanese grow rapidly. It's fantastic to see teams that can challenge world superpowers. I love it. "素晴らしい仕事"(Excellent work) from the United States.
nakata is too much a beautiful soul to have continued being in the business/politival oriented fooball arena. Look what happened in 2002 world cup for instance. one of the biggest scandals in sports history. I wish there would be more human beings like him... He is an example for generations to come. unlike very famous todays footballers--
Croatia vs Japan 1998 actually finished with Croatia winning 1-0 with a Davor Suker goal in the 77th minute. At the beginning of the video the commentator states that Japan went on with a goalless draw against Croatia. Not sure if someone stated this before, I just saw this video, I'm Croatian, but I'm a big fan of Japanese football players, and the Japanese National Team.
I have watch that match video great match it can be win for Croatia or Japanese or draw. Croatia the lucky win the match. Just when Japan vs Argentina, Argentina much stronger but lack of shooting. They always shoot but only get 1 goal. Hope Croatia can be back in World Cup.
KONICHIWAAAAA i like this japan side with honda and kagawa. Nice style of play and very quick. I hope to see them prosper in the next world cup good luck.
now they might not be the best but thinking that Japan in just one decade went from a country that never qualified to being a regular qualifier in world cup is pretty amazing, and who knows maybe they might win the world cup someday
Jin Seong KIM Sean Hossain WTF, WWWWWHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYY????!!!!!!! WHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYY????!!!!! YOU IMBECILE!!!! YOU RUINED THE UNREPLIEDNESS OF A COMMENT!!!! THANKS A LOT MAN!!!!!!
Gilles Paling lol a lot of players who have one the world cup were africans that played for European countries. Imagine if Congo team would have players like Lukaku and Kante
What I like most in all of Japan's sport teams is that they are almost never the favorites, but they never give up, and everyone kinda have a sympathy for them.
World soccer fans. However, the Japanese soccer level is nearing a world level surely step by step. Originally we Japanese are serious national traits. It is the same in the place of the soccer, and it embodies in it. Our soccer in Japan wins the championship at "World Cup of the world's highest mountain" by all means and declares that I join the world strong country sometime.
What steps does Japan have to take to be on top 10 of the world better and new coaching, training etc. ? I believe they need to develop new world class players, and talents comparable to top teams with strong (fan, sponsor) support and hard work. More good tournaments abroad and more victories will build confidence and talents. They also have good national league to build players.
+James Chuaycham................it takes years of development and long periods of more disappointment than success in regional and world tournaments. And you have to be able to appreciate improvement that doesn't necessarily result in higher and higher tournament finishes. A few more specific points: You have to solidify the internal youth league infrastructure such that kids from the earliest age can progress smoothly from one level to the next as they grow, and be able to develop and be challenged at each level all the way through college and into the professional tier. You have to scout across the entire country to identify exceptional kids - the Hondas and Endos and Okazakis and Nakatas, etc - and keep them interested in soccer rather than baseball or kendo or ski jumping or whatever. You must be prepared to ship them overseas to develop alongside the best European kids at the best sports academies. You have to have the fortitude and the financial commitment to send them away as children and leave them in Europe to pursue La Liga and Bundesliga and Premiere League careers. You also have to push soccer as the premier Japanese sport - not the aforementioned baseball or kendo, etc - and get kids into it in any way you can. Japan is ranked 11th in world population in 2016 behind only one top team (Brazil), and thus they should be producing roughly the same amount of raw talent as any other top soccer country. In the US (my country), there is an incomprehensibly stupid cultural bias against soccer that, combined with the popularity of baseball, basketball and American football, discourages kids from joining. A real and very laughable sense of "manhood" in the US unfairly works against the popularity of the sport. Japan does not have this ridiculous hurdle to overcome, thankfully, but there are other sports and traditions that compete for kids' interests at the critical age where they must be exposed and then commit to soccer.
But didn’t you guys also have referee help? Against Russia? Do you guys remember that? You’re just mad that South Korea is better at cheating if they cheated at all
Japan is a good team, they beat Argentina not long time ago.. and they play very well.. it is exciting to see how football is becoming more and more competitive
Being Australian I never really realised how much of a threat Japan could be especially since we beat them 3-1 in 2006 to qualify for the round of 16. But it seems like their team then was really special.
Japan is awesome. Antis too bad but lying and convincin yourself likewise is just delusional. Japan teams have always been strong. Here in America: japan baseball and soccer are tops
Why Japanese football increase so much that is start from Captain Tsubasa manga. I watch Hidetoshi Nakata video interview he say something about Captain Tsubasa and he the first Japanese football generation playing for the first world cup for Japan.😁
When was the last time Japan defeated by HONGKONG ? When HK recruited loads of foreign players, from UK, Korea & Malaysia, where were Japan players ? HK had been great in Asia from 1950s up to 1970s, technically speaking. When no one heard that Japan had soccer in 1970s. Japan’s capability from nothing to dominance force is incomparable. Salute.
Japan, the team with the most rapid development of football. someday we will see Japan bring the world cup trophy to their country
They were near at world cup 2018
Soccer and baseball are total different things.
Are you joking??????
Reading this comment after having them beat Spain and Germany in the last WC
Japan always a surprising and solid team and the japanese fans are the most humble of them all, ❤ from netherlands
They became better and better in a couple of decades, congrats Japan... Greetings from Argentina.
but can they do anything in todays world cup 2018?
They just need to beat either Senegal or Poland and they can make the top 16 again.
@@TheRealOtakuEdits they are now fifa rank 26.....they clearly went backwards...

They really had this on the first half... but oh well

Yes what you said are all correct. And just to add on Japan needs a strong youth academy. For example Barcelona, Man U always produce talents.

lets see what they can do in 2018
