I really love this scene since it's a reflection of when Sanji's mother ate the bento he had made for her even though it was ruined and yet she still said it was delicious just like Luffy does here
The man's so honest, he literally almost signed his real name when entering the Dressrosa fighting tourney, seconds after being told he shouldn't enter his real name 😂
I can't not cry. Not only does this reflect the scene where Sanji's mother does the same, but it reflects when Zoro ate the dirt covered Onigiri at the start. It shows not just how kind Luffy is, but how much he loves his crew, and how much Sanji loves the Straw Hats. It's the purest form of love and friendship, when you're willing to put whatever in your body because your friend made it for you. One Piece will always be in my heart
well i mean the food didnt even turn bad, just got dirty and probably soggy this doesnt mean its losing its taste so i dont think that the bento tasted bad, it just didnt look apetizing so if luffy says it was good i would say he really means it. But yeah it really reminds of the scene with the onigiri at the morgans base
Two way different scenarios, the girl’s rice balls were actually bad but Zoro still ate them to be nice. Luffy actually did like the food even if they didnt look appealing, Im pretty sure he didn’t lie about it. He’s also very true to his word and said he would only eat Sanji’s cooking which is literally anything he cooks.
Luffy risked his life for one crew member. He did it for Robin too. That’s what makes him a true captain. He goes out of his way to help them if they are in trouble.
One of the best parts about this, to me at least. We see Luffy scarf down food like a pig all the time before. But with this, with this food in particular, he's savoring it. Not wanting to let all of Sanji's efforts in making this food go to waste.
It took me a while to figure out why this scene felt so nostalgic to me, and then it suddenly hit me not long ago: this is just like Luffy and Zoro’s first exchange back at Morgan’s marine base. Helmeppo had just trampled all over Rika’s rice balls for Zoro after tasting them and being disgusted with how sweet they were (she used sugar instead of salt because she thought it would taste better), and then Zoro asked Luffy to feed him the now sullied rice balls after everyone else left. Luffy at the time thought that it was nothing but dirt, yet Zoro still wanted to eat it and said that it tasted good (even if it wasn’t tasty, he could tell Rika put a lot of effort into it and didn’t want her feeling so down after what transpired). I wonder if Luffy thought back to that and both Sanji’s and Jinbei’s speeches about starving and eating to live when he saw what happened to Sanji’s bento.
@@TheEternalCircus1 No he didn’t. He would’ve held out for the remaining days just fine. He wouldn’t have been that much worse off when Luffy freed him if he hadn’t eaten those sullied rice balls with how little nutrients they had for him. Dude’s a monster like that, remember? He straight up told Rika that he didn’t want them while she was still there and told her to go away. And suppose he did but he was being all tsundere about it. How do you suppose he was going to eat it if she left the rice balls there and no one else came along to feed him, what with his hands tied up? Use his feet?
This scene is great cause when Sanji tells Luffy to not lie about its quality being great he knows deep down that Luffy can't really lie anytime he tries it's very obvious yet here you see him eating away looking happy. A small detail that Oda also adds here is not having Luffy just devour all the food right away and have him get back up ready to go like he usually does. He instead sits down and eats it like a normal person would savoring all the food's flavor before getting back up, letting Sanji know Luffy appreciates all the hard work he put into making it and bringing it to him despite turning on him.
This ,, dont lie’’ Shows perfectly how devastated and broken Sanji from the inside is… doubting himself his capabilities doubting everything it shows what kind of depression sanji is going through… damn that’s pain
One thing that makes this scene hit even harder is that luffy isn't wasting it by not eating That's something sanji follows whole heartily Luffy is following sanji's code of food
And he also says that if Sanji doetn't come back to the crew he'll still be there, starving to death, which is the smartest damn thing he could say in a situation like this
In every case, Luffy hasn’t abandoned any dreams his friends have. Sanji probably had the most commitment and love for others and knew Luffy cherished it, but this was the first time when he understood the full depths to which Luffy cares about each of them. Sanji is always ready to sacrifice because everybody who he looks up to has sacrificed for him. He doesn’t ask for help, and that’s his pride. This moment started the first tipping point where every facade he has breaks.
This is why One piece is my favorite anime still to this day I’m not tryna bash new anime but I just don’t like how they try to focus on making there fights look cool and badass instead of focusing on trying to make the characters feel more like people but still there is anime like that like Demon slayer and Mha but to me One piece does it better
jack luffy it’s more just that stupid people complained about older anime being too slow and now anime is too fast. They didn’t appreciate suspense and tension and just want to race to the ending.
People didn't like filler. Now a days anime has less filler because it's just not as good. One piece is still a long series but the anime would be a LOT shorter if there was no filler.
This is the moment besides luffy and Robin I truly knew luffy loved everyone and new everything about them, their body language, moods, foods , hobbies ,dreams etc, he loves them because their his family and all he got left
This scene correlates to when sanji made food for his mother. The food fell to the ground during the raining day and his food was messed up. Sanji’s mother still ate the food that he made and she loved it. Her mother and Luffy truly care for Sanji so much and I really love this scene.
Snack does really miss his mother, though he had a abusive family but his mother was his only hope that cares for him and luffy just brought back that old memory
The contrast between luffy being so upbeat and load about how delicious the food is while its pouring and there is no music at all just sanji sitting there on the verge of tears makes this hit so much harder
This hit me hard, I used to be really self conscious about the food I made for my family, it kept me awake at night thinking whether or not they actually liked it or not. Like sanji I said to myself don't lie
Luffy: So good! Yum! Yum! Sanji: Don't lie. Luffy has eaten burnt food from Apis & his Devil Fruit and wasn't disgusted by it. I'm pretty sure a box of fallen bento wouldn't hurt him.

Meat for luffy, white rice for zoro, grilled fish for usopp, spicy noodles for sanji, sandwiches for robin, hamburgers for franky, and curry for brook (the bento was also packed with an orange for nami and a chocolate bar for chopper on the outside)
