914 has a lot of known flaws constructed into it. Would love to see this one done as a restomod making it better than new. There is a podcast with Roland Kußmaul where he describes what they changed on a 914 to race it and came out with a car way better than a 911 of this time.
@@Shmee150 Given that "Patches" and "Porsche" have seven letters, don't you think it would be cool, if possible, to have custom made "Patches" letters (in the original style) and put them on the back grill instead of Porsche? A subtle but nice mod for the car.

Shmee, you likely have lots of options in England, but here in Canada there’s a company called Restoration Design (Waterloo, Ontario). They make fantastic panels for 914s and other Porsches, but in particular 914s the sale panel being one of them of course their prices are quite reasonable, and given the value of the pound to the Canadian dollar you’ll probably do quite well.
It's amazing what filler can hide...! The guys are doing a splendid job on 'patches' and I'm sure, will restore the 914 "correctly" to pristine condition.
Your garage always looks so beautiful. The AMG cleaned up nicely.I really enjoyed that Swedish Video, with you snow drifting. You had a permanent smile and were laughing the whole time. What an experience.

This is such a different project for you Tim as mostly it's new out of the box cars or cars just needing a bit of a transformation that you take on but this is the full Monty......
1) You should have inspected the 914, or had someone inspect it, better before purchasing it. 2) All the cheap 914s usually have a little rust on the battery tray, and the rocker panels. I used to have a rusty 76' Porsche 914/4 2.0 that was no where near as bad as this one. 3) This has to be one of the worst 914s I've ever seen. For first Porsche's, I would have highly recommended a 944 or 968. Thanks.

Time! This was expected when the car comes from the USA and your car is not dangerously full of putty anyway. I grew up with American cars and read Swedish car magazines that only deal with American cars. I remember reading about imports of American cars that looked like your Porsche when you bought it. This was in the late 70's and then during the 80's like many that were imported to Sweden and when the owners had to renovate the cars and sanded down the paint. Then they discovered that they had fraudulently renovated by using chicken netting, newspaper and putty during renovation. This happened to several Swedes and it was not uncommon for half the car to consist of just chicken netting, newspaper and putty. So Swedes who were going to buy cars in the USA learned to carry a magnet that you put over the entire body, to make sure that you don't cheat with then chicken netting, newspaper and putty or partial putty repairs. So take a lesson when buying a used car that has been in the US, to have a magnet to bring over the entire body.
Am I the only one who fast forwarded past all the fancy stuff in the garage to see what's going on with the disaster car? I've done deep chassis restorations on Alfas and Jaguar XK-Es, I would've walked away from that 914.
