    Your method is the easiest to understand, especially the zipper. Had a few failures before seeing your tutorial. Thank you.

    It’s the summer of 2024 and I’m all about pouches!
    2 takeaways, using tape & the zipper ends.
    The step where you “line up the lining and the main” before sewing around, they just wouldn’t line up or were uneven but now it makes sense why. Brilliant ~Thank you 💗

    Hi Miss Melly! I have just starting sewing and couldn't wait to sew a zipper pouch. I started at 10 am and at 4 pm, I finished. I couldn't figure out how to sew everything together. Trudging through after many stiches taken out I finished! I am very proud of myself. Thanks for the tutorial! This is the first zipper I have ever done.

    Well now I know why my edges of the zipper pouch are curved down. I pushed the zipper teeth toward the outer fabric and not toward the lining as I should have. Thanks for sharing, great tutorial.

    Thanks for making such an easy to follow tutorial! This really helped me understand how to shorten the zipper which was puzzling to me. I'm also using this to line a coin purse where the outer part is tunisian crochet. Finally with your detailed instructions, I can see where to add the yarn piece and how to anchor it and get a clean edge.

    What a knucklehead I am! I followed a written tutorial that was essentially the same method/technique as this. It went pretty well ... except... I was always left with the opening to try to close up at the end and, well, it got messy. Mistakes were made. What I didn't realize until I saw this video, was DOH! you're supposed to leave the opening in the lining part, not the outer part! . I would have kept this to myself, but I figured might as well share the moment. :) Thanks for straightening me out before I mutilated any more of these things...!

    This is an amazingly easy tutorial! It takes me about 30 minutes to complete one start to finish (if I don't mess anything up along the way!). I will say, I think the tape method may be an acquired taste. I did my first with tape, and my second with pins, and my second was done a lot quicker! Like, considerably, regardless of experience with the technique. I'm just happy that it was so easy, with just fabric and a zipper! Super fun to do!

    EXCELLENT tutorial. I just made my very first zipper pouch the Jenny Doan way (Missouri Star Quilt Company) and o was so disappointed because the lining doesn't cover the the other side of the zipper. I like clean edges and have NEVER installed a zipper. I've watched literally hundreds of sewing videos and I knew that both sides of the zipper were supposed to be covered. Her method is simple and fast, so good for her for making it so easy, however, the next zipper pouch i make I'll be following your instructions. That turned our so beautiful. Thank you!

      Using this you also can make a small bag or tote by adding handles or over the shoulder band the easiest way to do this is by making a band out of fabric a long but small strip at least about 5cm( you will have to turn it inside out) and as long as you want them fold it with inside out making a 2,5cm strip sew the long edges together turn it use a stick if its hard to do and fold the ends inside for a nicely finish and sew them on to the bag the best way to do that is to sew an X inside a box [ ] like this [x]
      Be careful when adding them though so that you can still open and use the bag, you can even sew them on before sewing the two halves together

    Thanks for the video. Made a zipper pouch using another tutorial last night, but messed up a bit with the sizing. Tried again using your tutorial and even though some parts were confusing(beginner questions), I took my time and followed right along. Mine pouch came out beautifully - the topstitching was fantastic, the zipper looks great and I'm just chuffed at what I made. This is the 4th thing I've sewn, but finally a successful outcome. Very encouraging and I can't wait to try other things.
    Thanks!!!

      Would you mind expanding on what you mean by pressing the zipper teeth toward the lining fabric once I have attached both the body and lining fabrics to the zipper tape? Do you mean press the seam allowance from the body, lining and zipper tape down toward the lining?

    Thank you for this tutorial! I am brand new to sewing and this took me forever, but it was a great way to work with a zipper and use up some fabric scraps. I realized AFTER I cut my 9 x7 rectangles that the 9" zipper I bought had tape that was longer than 9" and that your photos show the length of tape being equal to the length of the fabric, whereas mine were longer, so the top of the pouch is rounded at the corners. Also, the liner fabric is very baggy, like there is more of it than the outside fabric, and I'm wondering where I went astray. Uneven seams? I ironed the fabric about halfway through the process, I"m wondering if that could've stretched out the liner fabric more than it did the outside fabric? Thanks again for this tutorial!

      @Mellysews  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Zipper tape is usually longer than the zipper and the extra goes into the seam allowances. My zippers were custom shortened to the length I wanted as I showed in the video. It's hard to say why you'd have a baggy lining, could be from pressing, could be from cutting, could be slightly different seam allowance, could just be a looser weave fabric that drapes more than what you used for the outer fabric.

    Thank you so much for the tutorial! What kind of fabric do you recommend? I had made one from another video using iron-on interface, which made the final pouch feel too chunky/cushiony. Wondering if regular without interface would be too flimsy, or if I should use sturdier canvas or decorator-type fabric. Thanks again.

      I used quilting cotton here; fabric choice depends on what you want the finished pouch to look like and be used for.

    Hi, I ran across this video searching for how sew a zipper and I am so glad I clicked on this one! When I realized you had a blog, I knew I had to check it out, and I can't wait to look at some of your patterns! I was just wondering what machine you used, because it seems to run really smoothly. Thanks for such a great video, It was really helpful!

    I have a question: when you top stitch, you are just going through the outer fabric and not the liner, correct? This is what I am doing, but then I always have to trim the liner fabric’s length otherwise it is too long and bunches up inside the pouch. Am I doing something wrong?

    • @Mellysews
      @Mellysews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I'm going through the outer, zipper and liner.
