- In week two of Behold, Sr. Miriam James Heidland, SOLT, reflects on St. Joseph as our protector, the role of fathers, and our own human fathers.
Sr. Miriam shares a quote from Through the Heart of St. Joseph by F. Boniface Hicks, OSB:
“As we place ourselves in the position of Jesus in St. Joseph’s arms, we can learn the greatest experience of fatherhood. We learn from St. Joseph what it means to be unconditionally loved. It is an invitation to be little and childlike. When we take the risk of being vulnerable, like a child, we get a taste of divine love and we experience a father’s tenderness for his son.”
St. Joseph exemplifies the gift of masculinity. He was a strong, steadfast, and righteous man who lived in honesty and honor. In humility and awe, he was the protector of Mary and Jesus.
You may see your own father reflected in the life of St. Joseph or you may deeply yearn for a father (or father figure) who is more like St. Joseph. Sr. Miriam encourages you to acknowledge the pain in your heart for your father and to pray that the Lord will bless him and bring you into deeper healing with him.

Glad I listened to this today. My dad apologized to be before he passed away in 2015. A Chaplain who attends our church twistered and shared my story without permission making it sound like my dad was some kind of monster; which he wasn’t. If you have time, please say a prayer for me to overcome what the Chaplain and her friends did to me. May God receive all the glory
Sorry the Chaplin twisted your words. My father wasn't perfect either & I told him he apologized enough. He taught me you can overcome anything if you want it bad enough. He was sober 30 years old when he died. (Alcohol was his poison)

Please pray for my dad ❤ he had a heart attack right after thanksgiving. He’s in the hospital with ventilator and had a device impella implanted. He’s been a good dad and very faithful to God.🙏

I met you once in San Angelo at Christ the King retreat for a Life in the Spirit seminar, as I recall 2017. The rain was horrible in Dallas and you were a day late and I think it was you who had broken her foot fractured in the airport. It is nice knowing that the Sister did not herself really have an easy go of it, but still has faith strong enough to frame familial love in a spiritual context. Sometimes, consecrated religious don't necessarily consider that folks made need to view the love of the Holy Family as a *healing* from a broken one here on Earth.

Dear Sister:
What I notice about your meditations is that they seems to be totally disconnected from the Catholic liturgy, the source and apex of Catholic spiritual life.
In the liturgy, the scripture readings for the first Sunday of Advent focus on Christ and the End of the World. The successive Sundays of Advent advance through salvation history until, on the last Sunday of Advent, we anticipate the birth of Jesus. The Advent image, which should be the basis of our private meditations, is clear: he who will come at the end of time in glory is he who has come in the flesh 2,000 years ago.
For many of us, the sweet nothings you offer about the Holy Family cannot compare with what the liturgy offers. But I guess your sweet piffles are meant for the spiritual babes whom St. Paul loses patience with in 1 Cor., Ch. 3.
