    I use blender's bump node for creating a normal map. It's really quick, usefull and good looking.

    I use Materialize from BoundingBox to create my normal maps and its 100x faster. can also create height maps, ao maps, roughness maps ect. from a diffuse textire (or starting from any texture)

    Amazing! One question tho, what are your rendering settings, how many samples and resolution are you using for this picture?

    • @renderer
      @renderer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For this, I did 800 samples with denoising off. I like having a tiny bit of noise because I think it looks more organic (almost like film photography). This render was for an Instagram post so I did a 3:4 aspect ratio at 2304x3072 (3K)

    Don't use upscalers on such simple images / blueprints, simply vectorize it and save as .SVG or whatever and you get infinite resolution w/o any upscaling flaws.
    Also I don't really see the point of converting it into normal map in PS, you can simply use same image w/ color correct+blur node into bump map input to do exactly same thing, less memory usage too.

      Offer to work for free until you build a solid portfolio. People need to see proof that you're good or else they wont take the risk to pay you. I used to DM every Instagram account that I got an ad for while scrolling my feed. Cold emails work too but keep them short. Most people will ignore you but some will take you up. If they like your work they may use you in the future, or recommend you to somebody else. I made a video that goes more in-depth about this: th-cam.com/video/SAxiVBrRfdY/w-d-xo.html

    Hey Do you think there is gonna be demand in the future for 3D artists? I just started my journey with 3D and im learning a lot but recently have second thoughts if there is gonna be even job for us in the future to make good living from it.

    • @renderer
      @renderer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We're just now starting to see AI generate 3D models. Point-E was released by OpenAI, a company with billions of $ of funding from Microsoft, and if you look at the models it's creating, they're not even close to usable. I think we will quickly get to a point where AI can generate relatively good models and 3D scenes, but I think you have a ton of time to get into it beforehand. I made a video about this: th-cam.com/video/wsxel1JNaJ8/w-d-xo.html
      Those who stay current and adapt to new technology - thinking of how to implement it into their workflow, and develop strong connections with clients & marketing agencies will be fine for a while in my opinion. It seems as if nobody's safe from AI in any industry, however. ChatGPT can generally write a lot of good code, really quickly... If/when it gets to a point where it can easily replace programmers, we might be in trouble haha

  • @paradigm010
    @paradigm010 ปีที่แล้ว

    What would you feel comfortable charging a client for this? I know it’s different for each scene and client but just wondering to gauge my own client work, if I eventually get there

    • @renderer
      @renderer  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      With this specific one, I am on a contract with the client to produce 15 renders for them per month. You're very right about it being different for each scene and client. I don't really like working with people for one-offs (because you have to model their product AND make a scene for literally one shot). It's much more worth my time (and the client's money) for them to pay for a large set of still renders, or an animation.
      As of right now replying to you, I internally value my time at roughly $80/hr because after thousands of hours of experience, I can produce relatively good work pretty quickly. I don't work hourly though - I just use that rate as a mental gauge when estimating how much to charge. With that said, if a client were to contact me asking me to model & texture something from scratch, and build ONE scene to the degree of quality as this one, I'd probably charge them between $250 to $450 USD depending on the complexity of the product, type of client, and their specifications. A year ago, I would have charged half that.
      Hope this helps! I think next week's video will go into this topic more in-depth.
