    A video on configuring the Eagles would be good (the Super 4 can be daunting). Also on testing the results before flying, I usually set the gain to max and attach a piece of card to the surfaces so when I move the plane around the axes I can see the gyro is compensating in the right directions ;-)

    Those bumps on the antennae are just normal di-poles but in an in-line shape rather than a T-shape. The LNAs (Low Noise Amplifiers) are a chip on the receiver between the antennae and the RF chip. So feel free to swap antennas if they get damaged or if you want a different antennae or a longer one to mount on the plane differently. LNAs are a good topic for a video maybe.

    Hi greetings from Germany!
    I really appreciate your insights on this topic. I also tried to pair cheap Express LRS receivers (without PWM) with a Kopilot Lite and couldn't achieve it so far. Yesterday I tried your way with the converter and a Betafpv 2400 Lite and it works like a charme! The nice thing with the smaller Betafpv receiver is that the size is very small and you can achieve a very small pack. That's really cool. Next thing will be to integrate it in the A3 Super 4 directly (have one laying around here), just need to create a new housing for both of them. In this way it would be very tidy and neat. Many thanks for your streams and all the other topics on RC!

      @@RCVideoReviews I'll keep you updated on my progress.
      By the way I really struggled with a second receiver plus crsf to sbus converter-board. Couldn't get it to work together with the A3 Super 4. Then I realized that I paired this receiver before with a drone FC. And for that I had to invert the TX-Pin and change the UART to 115200. ;-)! So for all people out there who made any customizations to the configuration of their ELRS Receivers with the crsf to sbus converter only the default values will work.
      - Uninverted TX
      - 420000 Uart Baudrate!

    Glad you made this video. it has helped clear up some things a bit with the hobby eagle/open tx interface, but 'm still unclear how to set up gains. I normally just use normal mode (off or acro?), autolevel (horizon aka intermediate), and full angle mode (stability). pretty much a straight AETR setup with the ailerons sharing Channel 1, and flaps on Channel5, flight modes (A3pro commands) channel six and set the gains to channel 7 or the dial. I have been using the red A3pro v2 with some of my aircraft with success using a FlySky 14+ 14ch mini 2A receiver with ibus outputs. But I cannot figure out how to set the gains on the right variable knob, and make them work using only the radio. I have an apple laptop, so using it only presents more problems. I hope you read this before tonights podcast which I plan to watch. Also having trouble on one plane getting flaps to drop in the slow up and down deployment,.....if that's a real word?!?!?!? incorrect inputs/outputs or mixing??????? Anyways, I'm a Big fan of your videos and appreciate your work very much. Thomas

    The A3 Lite that replaces the A3 L has a spot for the throttle now too using sbus, and it works great with crsf/sbus converter.
    The A3 Mini is programable, sbus only, but I couldn't get the crsf/sbus converter to work with it, so I used D8 instead.

Coming from a Spektrum world, I'd love to use an AR637T as the flight controller, but binde with ELRS. So, if I could just plug into the XRLS2 port with an ELRS receiver, I can then get the Spektrum gyro and telemetry functions. Or am I missing something here?

    I'd really love to see you redo this with a larger ELRS receiver like the RadioMaster ER8 and the A3 Super 4 with a CRSF connection between the two. So, it would be a combo of serial data and PWM output. That way flaps, landing gear, and even lights could be direct to the RX, with Ailerons, throttle, rudder, and elevator connected to the A3 Super 4, which would be getting connected to the RX via CRSF. Especially if there is a way to Y the CRSF connection so that external telemetry data could could still work.

    Hi John, thanks for the video. Concise delivery, love your work.
    The ZOHD Kopilot uses Ch5 for mode change. How do you get around this with the ELRS Ch5 requirement for arming?
    Look forward to your videos in 2024. Have a good one.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We use 333hz 16/2 which gives us 16 proportional channels. Then we turn off dynamic power and set it to whatever max you think is necessary (250mw is the max on internal ELRS, so that's what I use) and I ignore arming. Just treat it as it it doesn't exist. Ch5 can then be used for mode.

  • @MrLightstuff
    @MrLightstuff ปีที่แล้ว

    Be advised. The new Matek PWM6 only works with elrs 3.0, but 3.0 is not backwards compatible with previous elrs rx. I had to go back to 2.5 on my main radio and put 3.0 on my little radio.
    One reason, like you said, not to fly with it yet.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      It makes sense PWM 6 converter only works with 3.0 as 3.0 is the version that provided more than 4 proportional channels.
      I didn't say not to fly with it. I've been flying with 3.0 for a couple of weeks now and on some of my nicest planes.

  • @ebikefe
    @ebikefe 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Thanks for this video. I have a question - at 12:20, you mentioned the gyro doesn't see/recognize arming disarming using CH5 - isn't that a safety concern? What else is controlling (preventing) accidental throttle movements.?

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Don't confuse ELRS arm with Throttle Lock. They are two different things.
      ELRS arming is irrelevant to fixed wing devices like gyros. Gyros also aren't responsible for locking throttle, the radio is. In either case, you use Aux1/Ch5 on ELRS to tell ELRS TX it's ready to go and to prevent parameter changes. The gyro doesn't care about those issues.

  • @zipppiz

    This is exactly what I wad looking for.
    I have three A3 V2 on order. Now would it be possible to connect Out 2 to the esc and then use this with ELRS since I plan to use it on a flying wing and it only needs the aileron and elevator to be connected to the Gyro. 🤔🤔🤔

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I don't. I can tell you ELRS 3.3 enabled SBUS, so if your Pixhawk supports SBUS, you could turn that on. It works on Ch2. However, no telemetry as SBUS is unidirectional. You'll only get telemetry from the Rx itself.

  • @BryonGaskin
    @BryonGaskin ปีที่แล้ว

    The Elrs devs say no sbus (for a lot of technical reasons that are beyond my grasp), but the one one thing they said why no Sbus is because it s a legacy technology. True, but there is a ton of old hardware out there (especially if you don't go with an FC) that only supports PPM or Sbus (e.g. like the Byme A / D. I've basically converted all my FC based wings/planes to ELRS, the only holdouts are is the one kopilot I have with a crossfire nano (because it supports sbus out)

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The sbus adapters are work-arounds to direct sbus support from ELRS. I still hold out hope they'll add it, but in the meantime, we have a small little $3.00 card to do the job.

    I watched your video and have Matek R-24-S (Had one from a Quad in a box) and HobbyEagle 4 flying a Tech one foamie using SBUS on a single wire. Throttle is coming off the Hobby Eagle. I am not running the SBUS converter. I thought I was good to go but I need help with bigger A/C and Helis due to running 2S voltage to my HV servos. I cannot run that voltage to these receivers. I am looking for work aounds you may already have working. I have some of the new RCVRs coming from Radiomaster that can handle the higher voltage. It is more about how do I run 5 V to Rcvr and 8.4 Volts to servos. I know I have seen you cover it. I run SBUS to IKON on Helis and starting to use the Hobby Eagle4s.

    FYI, for those, like me, referencing this much later... you can (now) set to 333hz 1/2 rate in your CRSF config / lua for no ch 5 complexity. I've done this on a glider and now on my F-14 with an ER8 rx.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ch5 is still required for certain features like dynamic power. Using 16ch mode just makes Ch5 proportional instead of binary. Does not eliminate the need to use Ch5 to "arm" the receiver if you're interested in the features "arming" provides.

  • @publicname515
    @publicname515 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 5 output limitation using SBUS is a deal breaker. There needs to be an ELRS receiver that has BOTH pwm and SBUS outputs. I use the Matek 10ch ELRS PWM converter + receiver. Unfortunately that has 2 UARTs, but the 2nd UART is designed to be used with a GPS sensor not an SBUS connector. I'm emailing Matek to see if it's possible. I'd just go with wire convenience for SBUS is really nice. But I use this on jets where I need more outputs.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      I outputs can be easily remapped in the firmware on the x10. You can just have it ignore ch5 and skip to 6.

  • @josephward2753
    @josephward2753 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I am sorry;, I know this question is way late. My question is could you "Y" the SBUS cable between the receiver and flight controller. With the second leg running to a 16 channel decoder? Those allowing you to use more channels as long as you didn't output from the decoder on any channel you were using in the Flight Controller?

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sure. I do something similar with ELRS receivers. Send SBUS to Gyro and use the remaining PWM pins for gear/flaps. All channels go out SBUS and they can simultaneously go to PWM on the RX.

      That's BS Mate! Just use a y-cord for 1 of your connections and feed the 5v from the BEC into the free leg +/- pins. That'll power all the + and - bus rails on your receiver and the gyro! You might need a DSM satellite adapter to match the 3.3v rails of most Spektrum satellites though.

    I gained very valuable information on configuring the Hobby Eagle A3S4 from your video with ELRS. I would really like to see a video dedicated to the A3S4 configuration.
