This is EXACTLY what I needed now that I started doing the arena challenges, these guides are absolutely top tier and don't feel overwhelming like the usual 40+ min ones. Thanks for making them!
Been coming back to these guides on a regular basis, either to freshen up on the playstyles or to learn entirely new things since I started playing Rise. Absolutely amazing guides, every 5minutes well spent. Thank you for making them good man!
Nice guide, just knowing to combo normal shot > power shot > arial shot is a good baseline for new players without information overload that i usually get from other lengthy guides.
Just saying, stumbled upon your series and LOVED it. you even ignited my love for the bow and kind of renewed my love for the game along the way (+150h). THANKS :)
This has been incredibly helpful, I only recently discovered that I am a bow user in world. Going from PC to Switch has been a hurdle too so having a guide like this will definitely up my game.
I was mid-Lagombi hunt wanting to practice with Bow but struggling badly, so I looked up a guide and fortunately found yours. This video has really made all the difference! I don't think I'd ever get the hang of it without this guide. It's simple, very clear and makes sense to me! Thank you!
I hated the bow before watching this video, now my views have completely changed and I’m so excited to try this and Charge Blade out. You’re amazing, thank you.
I bought Rise for the switch but didn’t play it much. In fact, I didn’t even make it past low rank. Bought it again recently for the PS5, and are now HR74 and have completed all of the Rise base game. LS & SnS main but have taken a liking to the Bow. This guide is excellent. It’s to the point and concise. You’ve gained a new sub. Ps. My first Monster Hunter was World. Put so many hours into that and Iceborne. Love this series.
Awesome video! Thanks so much, this was straight to the point, I just play casually for fun, so I didn’t have time to watch a 30min video on the mechanics of bow lol. This is perfect, thx!
I will say, spamming your shoot button is NOT advised when you're trying to apply statuses. Just like in MHW, its the damage numbers that apply the status, not number of hits. So you want to charge your shots fully if you're trying to apply status affects. If you're just doing damage, shot spam is still more dps
I used the bow for like 500 hours in base World and for some reason never used it in Iceborne... now i'm trying to get back to it in Rise and it has been kinda rough, so this video has been extremely helpful useful to understand how it functions now in Rise.
Thank you sm for these guides, they’re so helpful for picking up secondary weapons quickly and for helping my friend, who is new to the series, understand what the hell to make of all the different weapon choices lol
Lots of comments for new players based on my experience with Bow in newer monster hunter games (World and Rise especially): 1) Leave any notions of being some sort of long range sniper at the door for most of your Bow hunting career. The base critical damage range is not nearly as good as it looks in the training room (or as shown in this video) in practice since your actual quarry will not only be mobile, but their idle animations will cause their weak points to bob around on top of that. Why is that a problem? Well... 2) ...Bows basic physical damage type is PIercing, aka, the worst damage type in the game by a large margin when striking most parts of a monster, but very strong against the few parts that are vulnerable. Arrows don't travel all that fast and your targets will rarely be stationary, so learn to fight at close to medium range and learn when part breaks or flinches are likely to occur if you want to use the fancy stuff. 3) Stamina is everything. No other weapon is as stamina hungry as Bow. Period. Apart from Dragon Piercer, literally every other attack and move in the Bow's arsenal uses Stamina. Because of this, the Constitution and Stamina Surge skills are mandatory for any sort of useful bow build. Prioritize those yellow Spirit Birds in levels and pack at least 6 Rations on average for major hunts (spirit birds only increase your pre-hunger stamina capacity; they do NOT fill that capacity upon pickup like how Green Birds do for health; you have to eat to get use out of them). 4) Positioning. Arguably Bow's greatest strength is its exceptional ability to maneuver while attacking. Learn your enemy's power moves and where to be when they come into play. Also, learn what attacks you should sheathe your weapon for in order to avoid via Superman dives and Wirebug moves. Bow's dodges (and especially Dodgebolt; a brand new Switch Skill) are strong, but they do not cover 100% of the enemy's attacks with their pitiful 8 frames of invulnerabiltiy (as small as default rolls). 5) In multiplayer: USE THE SHOCKPROOF DECORATION FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. Bow is an extremely spammy weapon. When playing online with other hunters, equip a Shockproof Jewel to turn off friendly fire. (why it still exists is beyond me; Capcom, please, just get rid of it or make it an option that is OFF by default. It serves no purpose). Bow Hunters without Shockproof are second only to Long Blade hunters as being hated for disrupting friendly melee players out of their combos. 5a) Be a gentleman and shoot stunned/paralyzed/sleeping allies ASAP. The same thing that makes Bow hunters a bloody nuisance without Shockproof also happens to make them the best counter-CC artist in the game: Don't worry about your Shockproof Jewel interfering here, as it will switch itself off ONLY for allied hunters who are under the effects of Sleep, Stun, or Paralysis specifically so you can help them with some percussive therapy.
I kinda miss the old arc shot but the current ones decent. Even in the old style of arc shot, a lot of bows didn't have the arc i liked anyway. I really liked the tiny narrow multi hit arc that would pepper the top of the monster. Was capable of knocking monsters out too if well placed. Generations also arguably had a better style for air bow that wirebug, i wouldn't mind if the crazy stuff from generations came back either.
I love the bow in the game becouse of the targeting system in older games it's very hard to hit. In this game it's easy if you have some practice and the audio of the bow string feels amazing as well as the haptics on a controller using this weapon feels like meditation.
before this vid i watched the other one, that lasts 40 minutes. And i will be honest your video much better, because u said about aerial aim and now i know how to unlock it. Same thing with 5th charge level, thank you for vid, so cool
Unpopular opinion, but I like how the bow in the video looks more like a traditional bow and not a transformer, wish we got more of those in previous games lol
I want to get into bow but I REALLY don’t want to use mighty bow feather, I just don’t want to use a helmet that doesn’t fit any other armor sets. Is it ok to not use it? I’m not trying to break the game with bow, I just want to play it on occasion. Will I still be doing decent damage numbers if I don’t use it?
I've been on a bow kick recently. Maybe I'll try ps4 rise bow. I do have a few made. It plays so differently here than world i think I can have some more fun with it. Back in world I didn't really use charged shots and mostly spammed quick and power shots. What bow would one think best for me?

i know since its supposed to be only 5 minutes that it wouldnt fit, but i think you could make a series featuring most popular speedrun builds for each weapon type, for example im not a bow player but i still have to research different builds for each monster if i wanna get into it now since i know its the best weapon in the game, would be nice if it was all in one place. for example you could talk very briefly about popular bow builds with each element and shot type and what the builds are most commonly used against (what monsters) that would be very helpful.
@@KingRobRool i understand, but its literally just research work, anyone can do it, if you use the sets yourself or not, im just saying thats stuff that other people might wanna watch as well, the stuff most people wanna see are op builds and what the basic controls of the weapons are which is what you covered in your videos. its fine ill look what i need up myself im just saying thats what would get you more viewers im pretty sure.

ATTENTION!! The Wirebug input for Bow is R and NOT ZL. Sorry about the mistake.
Is this still relevant with the newest updates? I wanna get back into bow since I used it last in generations.
Yep. There's some new stuff added as well but this is more than enough to get you started.
You know how hard it is to match this up to PC controls. I spent like 15 minutes trying to figure this shit out and come down to see this :|.
It's so not hard I bet you could manage yourself!
Why won't you add controls for other devices aswell.i play on ps5 and I barely learnt anything
