At the end of 2003 I died for a few minutes. Car accident, falling asleep and crashing into a tree. I went into a coma and it seemed over! I woke up from the coma a few days later and in the first months of 2004 this "So Alive" was one of the songs that gave me the strength to carry on, so thank you Ryan, thank you so much!
Randomly remembered this song. I haven’t heard it in over 15 years. I would listen to when I was going through a lot of trauma in my life. I just cried like a baby. Love this song

Prime Ryan Adams. He’s still pretty great. I also think he deserves more empathy from those in the industry especially since he’s TRYING to get better and kick the alcoholism. I also have a severe mood disorder and I acknowledge it is considered THE MOST PAINFUL mental illness.
This song epitomizes the confusion and soul wrenching aspects of real love that works and then doesn't and then does and forever changes. God it's painful to love totally and completely. I think it only happens once in a lifetime. If only we knew, we would not make the mistakes we made
One of the best Ryan Adams songs in his entire catalog. It really bums me out that he doesn't play this live (or anything from Rock N Roll) anymore. I can't imagine it's a voice issue because he can always drop the key a half step down or two. I know the circumstances around the RnR album are rough but it doesn't change the fact that I love the whole RnR album. I think maybe he doesn't play it live because the high parts are a bit of a strain and if on a tour he needs his voice to hold up. I'd love a one off performance though that someone records for everyone to enjoy.
What's amazing is that this and the entire album is kind of a throwaway which he made in two weeks to satisfy a record label so he could release what he REALLY wanted to (Love is Hell, IIRC). Amazing song writer.

I see so many comments about his voice in this song, but you have to remember this song and Ryan Adams aren't necessarily about perfect pitch, he and his music are more about really powerful messages with powerful feelings, at least I feel them.
