      Thanks, Jake! If everyone had a cell phone with a camera and microphone in the earlier decades I guarantee that what some of the most legendary bands in the world did would make what Ryan's been accused of seem tame by comparison.

    I have no words when it comes to this story. He’s one of the best ever, everything comes so effortlessly to him, it’s good he’s writing again but that lack of release schedule & no hype/ pr or band tours to back it all up it frustrating to watch as a fan. He could’ve been abit smarter about re launching his career, he still has a massive fan base that would support him. Hopefully there’s another full band tour in the U.K. at some stage

    I saw Ryan perform a few nights ago and can honestly say that he is one of the most talented and beautiful musicians I've ever heard. His vocals were perfect. He was funny and great at interacting with the crowd. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Thank you for posting this video and for giving Ryan Adams his due recognition since his "cancellation" of 2019. I was fortunate to see the start of his current acoustic 2024 tour in Menlo Park, California back in June and he is AMAZING !! His cover of ‘Wonderwall’ by Oasis is heartbreakingly beautiful. Noel Gallagher himself says Adams’ version is the one it should have always been and tends to play that style of the song when doing his own solo live shows. A great artist, true talent and someone who truly should have been bigger (in terms of mainstream success etc) than he’s been.
    Obviously not to be confused with Bryan…

    Ive been a huge Ryan Adams fan since Heartbreaker and recently I've been enjoying these new albums. I get why some have no time for RA, it sounds like his behaviour was awful. But the hypocrisy is that so many other 'legendary' artists are guilty of similar or much worse. So if it applies to him, then the mainstream media should apply it to all these artists. But then they'd have nobody to review and write about! It shows the strength of RA's music and the loyalty of his fanbase that he can still put out and sell great albums, with so little mainstream support.

    Hi Paul, Thank you for advocating for Mr. Adams, who is truly a gifted musician, gifting the rest of us with his creations. Cancel culture is such an ugly cancer, and is so destructive when combined with sick, mob-minded masses. It’s often been said, “never meet your heros.” For good reason, as Our expectations of what people “should be” are often, if not always, misplaced and overestimated. Especially when it comes to people of high notoriety and extraordinary accomplishments. Im all for letting people be, forgiving each other our humanity, and cherishing the wonderful works of creation, be they at the hands of saints or of assholes. Peace and love, and long live Ryan Adams and his music.

      Wow - at last, someone who says exactly what I think/feel. I always thought that the original article was poor journalism. It rode on a wave of ‘me too’ in an ugly attempt to please its left wing readership. To include comments from an EX wife and EX girlfriend made me ashamed to be a woman. Most of us could fill a private library with our thoughts and feelings about our exes!!! But most of us have the integrity to keep those thoughts PRIVATE or at least only share our grievances with close friends. And women who complained were jumping on a pervasive bandwagon of litigation in the hopes of some monetary gain. And a possible publicity boost to their own music careers. And in the process, thoughtlessly trying to end the career of a musician whose art has been so vital to his fans. They didn’t succeed. Thousands of us have been to sold out concerts since and loved this man even more than we did before. Karma works in mysterious ways - -

    It should be noted that almost all of the recordings that make up the post 2019 album releases were from 2014-2018 so for the most part he hasn’t recorded anything new, but considering for how long he’s mentioned on Instagram about all these unreleased songs it’s great to finally hear them.

    I totally agree that the masses are too lazy to check out the facts behind the headlines. Cancel culture has gone too far. I’m sick of it and it seems people are waking up. It’s a shame because an amazing artist like Ryan will always be followed with the accusations and it pisses me off.

    Strange that Mandy Moore, that she claimed that Ryan somehow hurt her music career, that she has done nothing interesting musically since their divorce even though she has become a famous actress. Perhaps she was trying to use Adams for his music chops to re-establish her music career and it didn’t work out?

    • @MusicMentionsReal
      @MusicMentionsReal  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      My guess (just 100% pure speculation) is that she thought having a relationship with Ryan would give her more credibility in music circles. She wanted the music 'artist' label and saw Ryan as a possible means of legitimizing her among the music movers and shakers.

      @@MusicMentionsReal That’s a good point. She was a teen idol type back in the day. Most of those performers lose public interest when they become older. I think after her opportunities on that front were lost, she decided her best chance was to identify as a MeToo victim and get fans via pity, rather than talent.

    I have loved his music since Whiskeytown, but be honest-he spent years acting out in immature ways. I’ve seen him live several times. He could be great or a drunken insult to paying audiences. He pissed off a lot of people-way before 2019. I’m really glad to hear he’s sober. He’s always been so talented.

      Yeah, it's true he's had a volatile reputation for a long time. Unfortunately this seems to come with the territory for a lot of artists. My hope is that he's turned the corner and has emerged as a more mature self-reflective and kind artist.

    Well said my man. Ryan Adams deserves redemption like no other artist today.
    It should be noted that most of these albums, with the exception of the covers albums, were recorded before his “cancellation” and were probably never intended to be released (as is common with previous RA material) and that he was kind of forced to release these as a ways of keeping his career afloat. One of the reasons I can’t wait for RA to have a good label contract again is to see him record something brand new, studio quality, meant for widespread distribution.
    This guy deserves to be on top again.

      Thanks, Santiago! It would definitely be great to have Ryan get back into a proper studio and create a polished release. The production on these latest releases is certainly not top notch but the music stands tall. If he can keep his act together and get the right people to support him I'm sure we'll see future releases that level up the quality of the recordings.

    As a Listener to Ryan's music since his mid 90s Whiskeytown days I knew once he got famous overnight with his Gold album and got thrown at Elton John it was all going to be downs then up's. When I heard he hooked up with Many Moore I threw my hands up and said that's it unfortunately.
    Clear example of what famous can do to someone who was never ment for it......

    It's interesting what you say about the music press, which I know longer read much. I only recently discovered Ryan Adams, in the last couple of years - I'd made one half-hearted effort years ago when he was still "current". You're right not to minimise the way he behaved towards the women who came forward to speak about him, who we have no reason to disbelieve, at an early point in the metoo movement. As you say, the multiple accusations leave us in little doubt as to what a menace he was, for someone in an intimate relationship with him. I say all this because we are always in difficult territory when discussing art we love by people whose behaviour has been damaging to other people. He is, as far as I can see, the greatest living male purveyor of Americana currently working. There are a whole bunch of great women in that genre as we speak - Courtney Marie Andrews is probably my pick of the lot. But for me Ryan Adams stands pretty much alone among the men. His songs are more distinctive than Jason Isbell's, for example, and there are a whole bunch of great ones from over the years, even if they are spread across many many albums. This is one reason why he's been underappreciated, I think - his best songs are better than anyone's, but the albums themselves are generally a bit patchy. You name some of the great recent songs - then obviously in the past there's "Sylvia Plath", "Broken Anyway", "Lucky Now" and so on. He's versatile, does a whole range of stuff from indie pop that sounds British influenced as well as in the American tradition, country pop and occasionally straight country, and then those seventies singer-songwriter-type pieces like "Everybody Knows" and "Damn Sam". He's so good at capturing romantic yearning, in a voice that is strangely expressive and can do more than you expect it to be able to do on first listen. So many great songs - "Doylestown Girl", "Invisible Riverside", "The Hardest Part", "This House is not For Sale," "When She Smiles", "Shiver and Shake," "Rollercoaster" - often "small" songs that are not trying to make some major statement but occupy their own perfect little space. He's also a great cover artist, as the recently released live versions of "Achin' to Be" and "We Built This City on Rock and Roll" show, as well as the wonderful Taylor Swift 1989 version.

    • @MusicMentionsReal
      @MusicMentionsReal  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the great comments, Jimmy! Ryan is a special artist indeed. I don't like the 'Americana' label that much, but he's certainly one of the best in this musical genre, along with Jason Isbell who is probably my favorite singer/songwriter right now. Also, the 1989 cover album from Ryan is the only way I really connect with Swift's music, he did an amazing job in covering it. Cheers!

    I continue to love a lot of his songs and he, like everyone, deserves a shot at redemption. AND I suspect his out-of-proportion punishment is directly related to the fact that he has been a well-known dick back to his Whiskeytown days. And when you rub people the wrong way, they're less likely to forgive/forget. He seems to be sober now and getting his life back on track so hopefully people will forgive and give him another chance. Even if he never has another 'hit', we fans can still enjoy all the tunes he constantly puts out.

    We saw him last May (2023) in Orlando. It was definitely "jammy" - the first 3 songs took 40 minutes. And we had a "Summer of '69" moment (you can find it in the Internet Archives). You would think after all this time Ryan would have a succinct response to that but we got an almost 10 minute diatribe and all the energy was sucked out of the show. It was a weird one. (That tour was documented on the Alive Volume 1 release mentioned in the video.)

    If we got rid of all art created by undesirable characters, we wouldn't have much art left. Not that Adams is an undesirable character, merely a flawed human, like most humans. Would the perfect person stand up? He wasn't convicted of anything, nor did he face any charges. What happened said more about his accusers than it did him - the media pile-on attack was odious,

    Gotta say the biggest crime to music is how Ryan has been silenced. I remember I had tickets for his then upcoming Uk tour a month before the ‘allegations’ dropped. I always said let’s see how this turns out and I was justified to not condemn like the sheep who just see the headlines, we have seen and read from Ryan what transpired. Thanks MMA! You hit the nail on the head as to how to approach these 'accusation events'. You need to make sure the facts come out and if there's anything to the accusations. Too many folks are sheep and will instantly condemn based on seeing a headline or something in the Facebook feed. This knee-jerk environment to condemnation needs to stop but I'm afraid that most people don't have the brains to think for themselves anymore.

    @dannyblau3850 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think I only have two real issues with his post accusation “new” releases. He has either lost his inside or outside filter so he is just kinda releasing everything. Which is just way too much material and then when you listen through it all you can find definite gems but it’s just so much material to get through it becomes daunting.
    The other issue is losing other musicians to play with and his main engineer so just doing literally everything himself, you can hear and feel a notable quality dip in the re wordings from both a playing and production aspect where a lot of it feels like very loose/rough demos. Definitely needs an engineer producer again if anything just to filter and narrow ideas/collections of tunes and at least a proper drummer.
    Aside from that though, glad he is still doing his thing and has been able to start getting on the road again and finding there is still an audience out there for him.
    Once the real troubling accusation was cleared, it really boiled down to complaints of him being kind of a jerk and being a bad bf and husband. Which I mean, he has had that rep since the whiskeytown days, so should he have been cancelled for it? No.

    • @MusicMentionsReal
      @MusicMentionsReal  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Danny, thanks for watching and for the comments! I agree that the sound quality could be better on some of the material, especially the covers albums which just swim in reverb. Also, it is a LOT of material released very quickly and it does take some time to get through it all. As a fan I think I would have preferred a more staggered approach over time but I'd rather have the music to listen to than not have it.
      It seems that he still has some chips on his shoulder. He took a public swipe at Jason Isbell at one of his shows lately that I think was not productive to helping rehabilitate his public image. I hope he can keep himself on the rails in the future.
