A beginner's guide on how to play Mordekaiser in League of Legends. This tutorial covers off some basic info on his abilities, item build, play style, combos, and how to lane and trade against enemy champs. I literally picked LoL like a week ago and I got Morde as one of my champions. I looked into youtube for a good guide video but all of them were too complicated. But this one helped me ALOT. Awesome vid!

@@TiltShades I'm not sure if it's just me. But he is really tanky. Especially when he gets that W up. Most of the time I can just run through the turret and still have a lot of health left.

I can summarise everything here.
Passive: With every 3 hits from AA or abilities to a champ or monsters, a circle surrounds you that deals damage and give's you movement speed.
Q: Deals damage, scales with AP. Deals more damage when hitting someone alone (has a charge up.)
W: When you deal or take damage, the more shield you get. The white bar under your health bar show's you how much you have. Able to recast to heal 45% (it increases to 50% at max.)
E: Pulls/pushes enemies (has a 1second delay before pulling.)
R: Go to a 1v1 arena. You take 10% of all their stats. You get to keep those stats when they die in the arena, you don't get to keep them if you kill them out of the arena.
Abilities:
Q>E>W>R (Max in this order.)
Combos/when-to-use:
E > Q > AA
Use W when low on health and still fighting, recast if you have anything else.
Use W to heal from a trade.
Use R when getting ganked. Best to R the JG since they're most likely to gank you, if it's mid then R your original opponent.
Flash > Q. Yes, this works, helps to last hit opponents that run or are out of range.
Counters: From my experience, Jax is probably the hardest to fight against, he can all in you and leave. He can also heal, his CC is also a problem as he might kill you before you get to W.
Next is Sett, his CC, as well as his skill expressive kit, which can beat you early. Also, his W can destroy all of your shield and more. If you R and he presses R during your animation it will cancel your R and have it go on cooldown.
Nasus, early you can beat him, but he has life steal as he levels up, so buying a bramble (if you're behind) or an oblivion orb (if you're in front) is key to continue to beating him.
Pros&Cons:
Mordekaiser is easy to learn.
Simple abilities.
Forgiving abilities (big aoe.)
Able to have a true 1v1.
Able to potentially save someone.
No mana.
Too simple.
No variety.
Gets outscaled.
Slow movement speed.
Kitable.
Terrible items.
Combos:
E -> Q -> AA (you get your passive off as well.)
Flash Q (mainly used as a finishing blow.)
Help:
Poke with your Q.
If you're playing against a ranged champ just wait for 6.
Notes:
Your W can get reduced by 50% by a melee champ or 25% by a ranged champ with the item Serpents Fang (leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Serpent%27s_Fang), which makes him lose that ability, and if they build Quicksilver Sash (leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Quicksilver_Sash) you have no R. Your R will get stopped if your enemy moves out of sight (into a bush), or if they are unstoppable, or if they go Zhonyas, even if they don't press it to stop it they'll press it while in the R zone to waste 3 seconds of the 7-second timer.
At this point, you're only playing with 2 abilities.
Anybody faster than you is a bad match-up, as they can run before you get to kill them. If it's Vayne top, gl.
However, ranged champs often forget to move when AA so, use your E.
Olaf can stop your R if he Rs when he's in your R.
Sylas can use your R on you so R him after he Rs you.
Tryndamere is immune to all damage for 5 secs so try to save your W to when he Rs.
Cho'Gath can kill you when you're below with his R so be careful and W if you think he's gonna R. Same with Urgot.
Gangplank can stop your R when he eats his oranges (yes, I was surprised too when that happened.)
My opinion:
Mordekaiser is a strong early, ok mid, weak late champ. He's got no real form of CC, only gap closers/makers. Compared to a Darius, which his enemies airborne for 1 second and slows them, he sucks. And, his item choice is very VERY strict, either full tank (Frostfire gauntlet) or damage (Riftmaker.) How Riot has made Morde is terrible, it's kinda like the Aatrox rework, a lost identity. He starts to get boring to play as you do the exact same combo, over and over and over again.
Mordekaiser is perfect for Iron players, can be played in Bronze, in Silver, you're better off finding a better more skill expressive champ, in gold... just... why?
As you play this champ more and more, to the point you get to 100k+ mastery, you'll see the benefits and the negatives of this champ more and more.

This video helps a lot since Morde was my first champ when I entered League during the time he wasnt reworked. Im planning to go back to LoL and I miss playing him. His combo is simple and straight forward which I still love

thanks for the feedback, yeah I just try to keep it super basic in these beginner guides, core items only, too many people over worry about a full build being a "guide" where as if you learn to stomp early and get to your core build, the reality in most games is you can kind of build whatever you want :) items always change patch to patch as well, so i find juts focusing on the core items in these guides allows them to stand the test of time better. remember, if you have more gold than other players, more items, and higher level, you can carry with any kind of build really (hence all the off meta options). in any case, here is the highest win rate build for mord at the moment: u.gg/lol/champions/mordekaiser/build
Hey, at 5:20 after attacking the opponent you got some sort of green circle around you. Ive played some morde and got kills but ive never got this circle? What does the circle do and how do you get it?
That's Morde's passive. Once you stack up 3 attacks on an enemy champ or epic creep, you'll activate your passive and deal magic dmg to all nearby enemies in that circle, and also gain a small boost of movement speed.

Have fun, he's fairly easy to pick up, so you should be wrecking your opponents in no time! Vlad is definitely a more difficult champ to learn, and has a lot less early game dominance. But a cool champ none the less, I'll add him to the list. Eventually we'll get a guide out for every champ!
Can mordekaiser be on top lane? Btw road to a thousand
He's actually even better suited to be played top. Has more favorable matchups against common top laners, and the lane is a bit longer and more isolated, so even better for extended trades and running your opponent down before they can get back to their turret ;) We're almost there!

I was getting an anxiety attacking seeing a mordekaiser not getting passive proced on nasus
its a tough life XD
I kinda wonder about Mordekaiser jungle. Darkness Rise would turn on almost instantly and could give you a good camp clear.
i think it only turns on with the larger jg creeps, but yes it does help with clear. give it a try and let me know what you think, only big problem I see off the bat would be ganking :(

yeah, depends patch to patch what's strongest, your playstyle, and the specific matchup, but it works great as a first item. Let me know how it goes!

Does the passive ability work with 3 auto attacks on champions too?
If you mean that just autoing a champion 3 times in a row, then yes. Just 3 autos will trigger Morde's passive.

How do I fight the demonic cancer that is teemo as morde?

Ah great question, the classic teemo match. With Teemo, the two big things that hurt you are his poke, and his blind. Try to take runes that help with sustain like fleet, and start with a Doran's shield, that will negate some poke. For the blind, just understand that it only stop your auto's from going through, your Q will still blast him, so try to land Q's if he happens to blind you. The way to all in him, is simply catch him with an E pull, land a Q, and then just keep smacking him and run him down. The key is landing that E to bring him into melee range, and having enough health ready to all in (so don't get poked down before this).
As soon as I played Mordekaiser he instantly became my favorite

its tough for sure, try to grab them with your E when they go for last hits.
If can manage to grip them u cut through them like butter

Ah good old 1v5 Master Yi! He's definitely more suited to playing the jungle role, where he can afk farm for a while and get strong without having to worry about playing the lane phase. Maybe I'll do a gameplay commentary with him soon. Thx!
