You can refill the water bottles at a water stand. The water stands are near laundry mats. It is cheap and a good way to get rid of those 1 baht coins (coin operated). I live in a condo that is a five-minute scooter ride to the beach. It has a huge custom pool, weight room, guard, concierge, and covered parking for $250/month. Health insurance is $150 per month (I'm old). My favorite lunch is a freshly made chicken kebab, which is very filling at $2.50. I can sit at a bar and enjoy the sunset with a beach view and a beer cost $2.50.

I have seen those water dispensary machines but I've also seen the guys going clean them and my oh my they're so dirty inside.....

Hi Mark. Great one. So important and at the same time so frustrating.
10% in about 3 months it’s huge change, and who knows what is going to happen with the exchange rate. I live here with my wife and we spend every month about 80K . During the last 3 months for the same amount of money I had to transfer 225 USD MORE EACH MONTH. Anyway, I’m not going anywhere else. Trying to listen to your advice. I’m just trying to enjoy my life here. love this country and the people. Cheers mate. Thanks again.🍻🍻🍻

Hey Gabriel and as you mentioned you guys definitely noticed it over the past couple of months...
Now hopefully this trend is not going to continue..
I have faith that the Thai government is going to step in and stem the growth....
But so many people on this thread just don't understand the whole currency situation and how it affects their budgets...
      It's sad actually....

I like your channel because it doesn't make us feel bad about living on $1000 or whatever. Some other channels on Thailand present the idea that you're living like a dog if you're spending less than 2-3000 USD. My budget is around 1000 in the outer realms of Chiang Mai and I live a very good life thank you very much. I could afford to go back to America and buy all the fancy stuff they think you need but I choose not to. Many such cases.

My food budget in Pattaya is about 200 to 250 USD. I cook my own food and I do not have to go our several times a day to get food. I usually buy in bulk at Makro (free delivery on orders over 1,000 Baht) and vacuum seal whatever I can. I usually make a big pot of chili using raw beans, spaghetti (make my own sauce), huge bowl of tuna fish. I make own breakfast sausage, bread, tortillas, English muffins, jam, peanut butter, blue cheese, caesar and ranch dressing, teriyaki sauce, sweet and sour sauce, mustard, mayonnaise, egg salad, pizza, grind my own spices, relish, pickles, BBQ sauce, pancake syrup to name a few, I also make my own deodorant, shaving cream, foot powder and aftershave for pennies on the dollar. I spend about 40 Baht per week and bottle water service (5 gallon jug for 40 Baht. I can fill them myself but it will be a pain in the a$$). I am also thinking about getting a portable solar system which will generate 2000 Watts per charge and save me about 30 to 40 bucks a month. After a few years it'll pay for itself.

Too many people come here and don`t think about inflation and currency fluctuations. The question people always ask is `can I live in Thailand on $xxxx` Tons of people pile in the comments (usually not living in Thailand) and say `yes you can`. No account of inflation, no account of currency exchanges. no thought of needing your income to increase over time. The real answer is that usually you can survive, not live a great life, on that income TODAY, in the long run life here will be tough if your income isn`t increasing. I don`t really have any sympathy for people who can`t work out the basics for themselves, Thailand is now full of these broke arses in the last few years.

This is the reason I made ether video, was to try and educate people on the importance of understanding the currency exchange situation.

      That's the truth
Even someone on a limited budget can live an incredible life here so long as they know how to allocate their money properly and how to watch their money....
I myself haven't seen too many of these broke ass people that you're talking about... I have however seen people with a decent income and savings go through it like crazy because they don't understand how to budget and they don't understand what stuff is actually costing them....

First, it was hard for me. Now it's easy. I can do it in some month under $650.
The Westerners must do self adjustment to the Thai lifestyle.
I don't go out, and eat American junk food. I cook and eat Thai food.
If you are living in Thailand, but living as western lifestyle. You are screwed. Live local, eat local.

    Brother,
    It is completely understandable that
price of goods and services always goes up, the only question is by how much. Living abroad one is not only subject of inflation which happens everywhere but also currency fluctuations. Social security in USA adjusts for inflation but pensions generally don’t. Consequently if people are prudent they should live bellow their means and keep a healthy nest egg.
    I guess I am a dreamer
    Peace

      Hey Michael
Actually brother I don't think you listened to what I was saying in the video....
This is not a matter of inflation this is a matter of the currency crisis...
The cost of things here has not gone up...
I'm telling you in 4 years pretty much nothing has changed in price at all and if it has it's been so insignificant that you don't even notice it...
What I'm talking about is the fact that the Thai baht has exploded in value against every currency in the past 3 months even over the past 4 or 5 months to be honest but especially the past three.....
This has nothing to do with the rising costs of goods or services because I'm telling you right now those have not changed here in four or five years....
As a matter of fact when I first started coming here 10 years ago....
      Prices haven't changed that much.....
This is strictly totally about the currency crisis going on.....
As I said all of my expenses stayed exactly the same when I'm looking at it through the BAHT!!!!!!
But when I see the Canadian dollars it has gone up almostv11% in 2 months ....
Again that's not the cost of goods that's not price is going up one stuff that's my dollar not being worth as much as it was....
As you know from following my channel I have talked endlessly about people being financially responsible people making sure that they're not living beyond their means....
That's how I was able to retire and travel all over the world when I was 49 years old.....
I am just telling people the reality of Thailand at the moment
Amd we are experiencing a brutal run on the Baht....
Hopefully the government will get it under control.
      Cheers mate 🍻

Under the category of everything being relative, how much have living costs gone up in the US over the last year or two? Even if costs have gone up in Thailand, in a relative sense, it may still be the same bargain it was, relative to costs in the same timeframe in the more developed countries expats are coming from.

    • @whyhellotherewithdrmarksabean
      @whyhellotherewithdrmarksabean  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

But this is not about everything being relative,,, this is not about how living costs have gone up in the United States etc etc....
This is about the currency situation we find ourselves in.....
This is showing that just 2 months ago I could live easily on $1,000 and now because of the difference in the currency......
Prices have not gone up prices have not gone up at all....
As a matter of fact some prices have come down a little bit......
      It's the currency......
So its not all relative....I'm the sense you are using
And yes it is still a bargain compare to North America,,,, but the fact remains it's almost impossible to live a comfortable life on Phuket right now because of the raising Baht.....

So Thai baht is not the issue, USD/DXY are getting weaker since the central banks are lowering interest rates to (TRY) avoid recession. So, in the next 12-24 months THB is getting back to the 30THB = 1 USD level, maybe even hit the 28 level, but we'll see how much the interest rates go down and the USD/DXY weakens.

when I first came to Thailand in 2005 it was $0.50 for a Thai dish with an egg. Today at new price of 60 baht and 32 baht/dollar it's $1.75 or TRIPLED in cost. There was massive inflation after COVID which accounts for a part of that but the USD is worth less now than than on average before COVID. I don't think wages are keeping up with inflation here either so Thai people must be struggling more than ever.

If you made your budget based on 37 that was a mistake and you need course correct, cut costs, move to a cheaper area, generate more income etc... 37 long term was never realistic sadly.

I am in the USA for business and even here in North Dakota two days rent here is equal to my entire monthly rent in Hua Hin. Whatever your budget is be sure to spend less than you earn so you can build wealth to at least somewhat insulated against such changes

Hey Steve here's the problem though mate if you watch my video and if you've watched my videos for the past couple of years you will see that the cost of living is not rising here ...
It's not that prices are going up
Throughout the entire video I'm stressing the fact that the prices are not going up at all....
      The baht is going up
This has nothing to do with the rising cost of living as me know if in north America, this is totally about the strong baht....
No other currency is experiencing this right now...
      None
It is predominantly the Thai Baht...
The government is having emergency meetings about it every single day because of the rising baht...
Again I fully understand that prices are rising in North America and stuff but over here in Thailand Cambodia Vietnam the prices haven't changed for years and they're not changing quite honestly the price is here on Phuket over the past 4 years on the food and stuff beers etc etc clothing they haven't changed at all the only thing that has changed is some of the people are hoping to cash in during High season so the rents go up a bit...

Bitcoin..It's to prevent inflation. Why 21 million exactly? Because at the time 21 trillion was the total amount of money available in the world (2009). He expects each BTC to someday be worth 1 million each. Today, there is more than 21 trillion in the world which is probably why a lot of currency including the dollar has lost a lot of it's value

The baht is 9% stronger. Everyonebis acting like its +30% more expensive. So if you you was spending $1,000 usd now it would be $1,090 usd. But let's not miss the chance to make a video of how awful expensive it is now. Retirement in thailand is over now! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
Also the baht has gotten strong every year since covid this time of year then weakens around high season. But hey, don't come and ill try my best to take care of all the ladies as best I can. Just renewed my retirement visa again. 😅😅
