I saw this video yesterday and made it immediately! I have a few family members who come visit but have intolerances. (GF & Dairy.) Just to give it a test, I followed tbis recipe, using GF Oats and GF 1:1 Flour. Instead of butter :( I used stick plant butter by Country Crock. My husband and I loved these! Im happy to know i can change it around when I need to. I hope that helps someone.
Thnk you ever so kindly for the recommendations I have 2 in the family that I bake for that have these intolerances I never used the plant butter substitute,, but I am sure going to try!
I made these the other day and they turned out delicious!!! I reduced the sugar down to 1/2 cup which in my opinion, made for a well balanced and not overly sweet treat. So easy and great to have on the countertop for a quick and fulfilling bite in the mornings
Thank you John for going through SOOO much effort for this book especially- you are so honest even here in your video how busy you are being exhausted etc - like we All are ! but being able to get a beautiful meal or snack on the table despite all of that. So genuine and so much quality in your recipes.. beautiful family on top . Blessings ❤
I literally bookmarked this recipe today from your book and here you are with a video! What a coincidence! Thank you so much for all your delicious recipes ❤
These are so good!! It’s nice I had all ingredients on hand, for once. My pantry stocking skills are improving. 😊 I used cherry jam and frozen whole cherries for the jammy part. Yum yum.
These are seriously good! I have made this more than a few times now if I have to take a quick dessert that doesnt take forever, ( yet is from scratch/ no additives) Made it blueberry so far . Next up in cherries, dark beautiful cherries since I grew up in an area where they grew the Montmorency cherries (: Loved loved loved this easy recipe!
This has been buzzing around my tired brain since I watched it. Finally tried it last night. I had lingonberry jam and fresh raspberries on hand so that's what I used. Very easy to put together! Came out wonderful! That oatmeal crumble is the best. I think it's smart to use both a jam and fresh fruit in these bars. Kudos to John for a great recipe! 👍
I made these bars today but used strawberry jam and fresh strawberries. It was so delicious! I can’t wait to enjoy it with coffee in the morning. The toasty taste of the oats was so yummy! This is def going in my recipe book. I’m also thinking of making a s’mores bar with these oats.
4:24 I do like blueberries, but the two variants I thought of immediately (which I'll probably try before blueberry) are: 1) grape jelly, with heated peanut butter drizzled in diagonal lines across the top, or 2) nutella instead of jam, with hazelnut pices on top.
I finally ordered your book 📖 today and can’t wait! My kiddo and I have been cooking with you for years already and he’s not even 5 yet😂❤❤❤ we love good food and your style. He loves learning all the little tidbits you add into your recipes.
I received my copy of your new book yesterday. I also have your first one! My husband and I watch your TH-cam channel. When I told him I ordered your new book, he asked me to make him some of the dishes in it! Thank you for your cooking inspiration!
Holy moly! I just made this and seriously this is the best pie i've ever made. (I made this like a pie style) i added a little less sugar but it's still sweet! I love it! Thanks!!
Was able to get my copy of the new book yesterday! Thanks to your recipes, John, I've been expanding my horizons in the kitchen, impressing friends, family, and coworkers. This recipe sounds perfect to try this weekend.
What a coincidence I was actually going to make this for my husband’s breakfast! Yummy ❤ for one of the comments that said about the blueberry filling it’s basically blueberry jam with blueberries on top!
These look delicious. I have had a craving for blackberries lately and think Im going to try that with your recipe. I have made alot of your recipes and not a one has disappointed 😊. I appreciate you.
Done the blueberry version - but my fav is raspberry-rhubarb filling - (just my personal taste). THZNK you John for always giving us incredible recipes!!! How are the goats?🤗
Game-changer! The combination of the buttery oats and sweet jam is awesome! I can't wait to try this out. Your step-by-step guidance makes it so easy to follow along, and I love how you make baking feel approachable for everyone. If anyone's into simple, delicious recipes like this, you might enjoy some of my recipes too. Thanks for the inspiration, John! Keep these amazing recipes coming!
So, I made these bars. OMG!!! They are so nutty and tasty!!!! Oh ya..... And easy! I just bought your book. Love it. Thank you so much. I highly recommend making these bars.
I'm super happy I can make this recipe from you! I have been watching your videos for years, but recently found out I have histamine intolerance, so it's hard to recreate most of them for myself. This one on the other hand will get made as soon as possible. I'm looking forward to it!
❤I love everything he does. Nice to see him at Barnes& nobles, this pass August 20/24 in NY..amazing human being ❤❤ I have both books signed ......🎉🎉🎉🎉
When you melt butter and then it cools down, it has an odd greeny texture. Does it do the same with the browned butter? By the way, I love browned butter. It's so nutty, I'd never have thought to use it in baked goods, but it makes sense. I love to serve it over some cheese ravioli with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and chopped walnuts. 🥰
These look yummy. I've always thought it would be helpful if those making recipe books would in the directions portion of the recipe it would tell you the exact amount of the ingredient to add not just the product like butter Suger etc. example. In a medium bowl add your 1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup Suger and stir, instead of in a bowl add your butter and Suger and stir. Just a thought.
Everyone probably knows this except me.. but could you do a short segment on how to line the various sizes and shapes of baking pans? You do it so neatly.❤. I can cut the parchment paper and make it fit, but it never looks as nice and neat as yours. Thank you!!! I do buy the cupcake liners so I’ve got that one covered lol!🤭.
I wonder if you can do this with a pear jam and then top with sliced pears? It sounds like it would be delicious with either pears or apples to me. I also wonder if John has a recipe for how to make kataifi (some places refer to it as kunafa) to make the Dubai chocolate bar? If you buy it in the store it can be anywhere from $12.99 to $40. I've never had it before but have watched so many videos on how to make the chocolate bar.
So, I don't know if this was an editing mistake or what, but this video doesn't tell us how to make the blueberry filling. You say 'now to make our blueberry filling' then the video jumps to you taking it out of the oven and spreading the filling onto the dish.
Pre-heat oven to 180 C/350 F.
Crumble:
224g (2 cups) quick/rolled oats
210g (1 3/4 cups) AP flour
165g (3/4 cup) firmly-packed light brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt

226 g (1 cup) melted butter/browned butter
Mix well and set aside ~170g (1 1/2 cups) of the mixture for topping.

Do you think that was an 8x8 pan?
there's also 1 cup fruit (blueberries) on top of the jam before adding the remaining crumb mixture
I calculated 487 calories per square based on a 9 square yield. 😊

In Newfoundland we use cooked dates call them Date Square,Date Crumbles or Matrimonal Bars.So good!Childhood comfort food
I made this but converted it to 1.5x in an 8x11.5 pan. That way I'll probably get 12-16 bars (so my kids don't eat them all). SOO good!! Thanks, John!
Blueberries and oats are a match made in food heaven!
I literally bookmarked this recipe today from your book and here you are with a video! What a coincidence! Thank you so much for all your delicious recipes ❤
This recipe is awesome. Made it today. I like that i can always use a different filling flavour to keep it interesting. Thanks so much for sharing.
These are so good!! It’s nice I had all ingredients on hand, for once. My pantry stocking skills are improving. 😊 I used cherry jam and frozen whole cherries for the jammy part. Yum yum.
I love this and have made it many times already. I use all kinds of fruit for the filling. They are so delicious...
Made today, still warm on the counter but my hubby and I took a small bite. Delicious! I used strawberry jam with blueberries tho. Thank you! ❤

I have a lot of fresh rhubarb in the garden. Maybe I use that instead of the blueberry…what jam / sweetener would you recommend?
Very healthy oat meal thanks for sharing with us❤I m from Pakistan ❤️❤

John looks delicious 😋
OMG my friend, you have to stop making these absolutely delicious recipes.
Another winning recipe!

I think he spread blueberry jam on and then topped with fresh blueberries. They look delicious.
I think he spread blueberry jam, as in purchased jam, then sprinkled fresh blueberries over that.
3/4 c blueberry jam. Then 1 c frozen or fresh blueberries
It is probably purchased jam, but he also speaks about jam and spreads being included in the book (which I'm looking forward to ordering, btw!).
@@SallyPerehudoff thank you most kindly! I wanted to know bc I have exactly one cup of fresh blueberries left and was looking to use them!
hi i have been watching you're vidoes and i love it. Can you make a videos on how to make Kaiser Rolls? 🙏🏼 please..
Can we use oil instead of butter?😅😊
Great video John😊😊
