  • Council member Dave Fogerty of Black Creek Bison near Spooner, WI discusses his experiences with native prairie grass mixture on his grass-fed bison operation.
Native prairie grasses are alternative forage warm-season perennial grasses that can fill the mid-season summer slump. Most native grasses have a clump-type growth habit and can grow to over 3 feet tall. The common names for WI native warm-season grasses are Indiangrass, Switchgrass, Big Bluestem and Little Bluestem. Selecting appropriate regionally adapted native grasses is important and graziers should consult with their local USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service conservationist for appropriate genotypes www.nrcs.usda.....
