- In addition to the contents of this video, there is also a shareable QR code for each pinpoint. Simple click on the pin and click the "share" icon.
This is a how-to for the pinpoint feature on the DJI Pilot 2 App used on DJI Enterprise drones. The specific in this how-to apply directly to the Mavic 3 Enterprise. I cannot speak for the application across the other drones in the DJI enterprise line-up.
How To Use The Pinpoint Feature
1) Set a Pinpoint - Multiple Methods and Results
2) Edit a Pinpoint - Color, Lat/Long, Altitude
3) How I Use Pinpoints
- Setting a Pin
Pins generated in the “camera” view are placed at the drone position/altitude.
Pins generated in the “map” view are placed at the location of the map reticle and zero(take-off point) altitude.
- Editing a Pin
Color, Location(Latitude/Longitude), and Altitude can all be edited
- "View Pinpoint" feature helps to set a heading to the selected pinpoint.
- Distance to Pin
- Setting Pins at Zero Altitude
- Using Pins for Flight Path History
This method is helpful for returning to where you left off...especially in the event you lose the flight path info. Normally for a battery swap, you would leave the controller on and Pilot 2 open and retain the flight path. But this is a backup/insurance.
- Custom Buttons for Pinpoints
Update 8-29-23...Firmware updates 07.01.1003(aircraft) and 02.01.0003(controller) fix the disappearing pinpoint issue noted below.
Note: Users(including myself) with the 3/2/2023 software updates are finding that newly created pinpoints do not permanently save when the controller is turned off. In my case, I still have all my old pins, but I cannot permanently edit, delete, etc any of them. So, while the information in the video applies, there seems to be a bug in the latest update that affects the pinpoint feature. Update 6/21/23: I had a conversation with a contact at DJI Support and they informed me that engineering is aware of the issue and an update will be included in the next firmware update. They did not have an ETA on the next update. They did suggest either using a work-around via Flight Hub 2 cloud(in Pilot 2 app)(I'm not a fan of this options and can do a video if I get a few comments) or downgrading your firmware via DJI Assistant 2 Enterprise.

Thanks for the great presentation. Lot of detail. Well done
Thanks...I appreciate it!
Great tips. Thank you
Thanks for all the great information. You do a super job at filling in the gaps in the DJI manual. Would rather watch/listen to someone like you rather than this Drone Deer Recovery pyramid scheme folks.
Keep up the good work and keep flying that very capable Mavic 3T.
Thanks for your advice on the light. I ordered one and it will be here on 04JAN2024. I may be reaching out.
Man, thanks so much. That’s some high praise. Means a lot.
Awesome video. I'm setting up a training for our team next weekend and I'll be using some of your tips. Thanks!
Very cool!
@@STRThermal I'd like to figure out how to sync pinpoints between 2 aircraft without flighthub. Maybe some kind of dropbox, export, import senerio but just syncing the native dji storage location would be better.
@@KelvinFPV The problem is even if you use a messenger service(Teams, WhatsApp, etc) to send your exported(I have a video for that) KML file of your pins, there is no way for your fellow pilot to import it into his system. That’s where a system like Flighthub might be handy. But the cost of Flighthub is ridiculous for smaller teams.
@@STRThermal Oh yeah, Guess I was picturing the caltopo menu in my minds eye when I said that. I suppose DJI already killed any thoughts of syncing the root folder the pinpoints are stored in before exporting. I agree, Flighthub is ridiculously expensive.
One thing you can do, if you already have pins saved and want to share with another pilot, is to make a simple waypoint mission using those pin locations. Then share the waypoint file type and your other Pilot will be able to import that.
Thanks fro this. One thing, can you set the drone to fly automatically back to a pin, or is this manual. Do the pins always stay there afterwards. So if you return, you can repeat the same flight pattern using the pins. Thanks.
You cannot autonomously fly to a pin(without making a route to its position), you can use "View pinpoint" to face the pin and set your heading. Pins always stay and will be there the next time you power up(there was a firmware that broke this. I reported the issue to DJI and they fixed it on the subsequent firmware(Aug/Sept 2023)). Pins are just a way to mark and find your way back to a point of interest(deer, lost dog, lost human, etc).
Great video, alot of good tips. I am having an issue maybe you can help me with. When I fly my DJI M3T and set pinpoints, they do not show up on subsequent flights. The next "number" shows up, but the previous ones are not listed when I long press the pin button. Any idea why this could be?
See my comment in the info for the video. I confirmed with DJI this is a known issue with the latest firmware. They said we can wait until the update to fix it or use Assistance 2 for Enterprise to revert back to a working firmware level.
Came across this comment again, hope you got the latest firmware(Aug ‘23) which fixes the disappearing pinpoints.
Mavic 3T supports augmented homepoint but won't drop an estimated pin down on something you're looking at and it makes me shake my head. I get it doesn't have a laser range finder, but it should be "good enough". It's a pain to have to fly directly over the object or to manually drop a pin over the Map where you think the object is. ATAK UAS tool has no issues operating this way on the M3T with a marginal degree of error, and UAS tool doesnt even officially support the M3T.
Excellent point, especially since you have “view pinpoint” and it clearly works well. I think it would work if you set a pin at the intersection of the camera projected view and some reference plane(spheroid) such as 0 AGL or the known topography(we do have terrain follow modes in the autonomous modes and may have to download the terrain map). I’ll add it to my list to discuss with DJI.
Hey Rufus, i'm thinking about getting a Mavic 3T and was wondering if we could load it into ATAK using UAS tool but there's practically no articles on how/if this will work with the 3T. Is is straight forward to load in the 3t with ATAK? I'm new to ATAK/UAS etc so have only limited knowledge to date but am a quick learner if i have an article/video to follow. Cheers
Is it possible to accurately draw the boundary lines between four pinpoints and mark the area for mapping?
Currently, I place four pinpoints, for example, at the four corners of a house, to understand the boundaries. Then, I need to choose a mission and try to fit the mapping area between the marked pinpoints. However, this is not always completely accurate. This is somewhat problematic because when I try to set the mapping corner boundaries, a pinpoint is automatically selected/marked, and the mapping point is not placed.
Unfortunately you can’t set your map corners to actual existing pinpoints. And if you have pinpoints, it won’t let you set a mission corner where the pinpoint already is. You can create an area and use that directly for your mapping mission but you can’t adjust those corners to exact GPS coordinates like you can a pinpoint. DJI should allow mission points to be set at existing pins or edited for accuracy but I suspect they realized corner accuracy is not important for mapping as you’re usually using overlap to adjacent properties to get all the images you need. But for waypoint missions where you’d like to be precise, I think it would be valuable to be able to select existing points or edit points. I hope that answers your question.
Are the pin point will more accurate if we use an rtk module with drtk 2 base station? After take the coordinates from the pin point
Great question. I will first state that I am not an RTK expert but from the fundamentals the answer is yes. With the RTK, the drone will know its position more accurately, and thus the pins set at the drone position or on the ground(from map view) will be, likewise, more accurate.
Researching how to reset pin to 0. Any ideas?
Thanks for watching. Currently there is no way to reset the pin count.
Great videos , thanks for posting, im new to the mavic 3 T , could you tell me if theres a way of attaching a photo to a pin, i'm looking at attaching photos of deer to the pin in the location they are seen Thanks
No, not that I know of.
Can the icon be dragged anywhere on the map and provide coordinates that could be reported to emergency
services for search and rescue? 4:08
Yes it can! And there’s a shareable QR code that anyone can scan and get a Google Maps link to the point. If you have a lot of points that you need to share, you can export a kml file of all the points.
I'm having problems with pipoints not saving in the controller when turned off or when switching accounts, any solutions yet?
Yes, at the bottom of the description...."Update 8-29-23...Firmware updates 07.01.1003(aircraft) and 02.01.0003(controller) fix the disappearing pinpoint issue noted below." Seems you still may have an old firmware?
@@STRThermal I downloaded the latest version, I hope itworks, thanks 👍
Is there any way to transfer a pin to your cell phone?
Yes, with the latest update(September 2023), you can now scan a QR code with your phone and open that pin in google maps. You can copy the coordinates from Google Maps and easily paste into your favorite mapping app.
Can you easily send the pinned location to a cell phone?
There is a scannable QR code that contains a link to the coordinates on Google maps. Otherwise you could copy and paste coordinates to any popular messaging app installed on the controller.
How do you get pin point location displayed in a QR code?
That feature was added after this video was made. Click the pin on the map so you see the details of the pin, then click the share icon to show the QR code.
Thank you. @@STRThermal
