This just goes to show that music is global, it doesn’t matter what genre it is what language you’re speaking if it’s well composed and with good musicians, it’s good music.
The 'lady' at the end is the ONE.... the ONLY.... NAO!!!! She is the drummer and in the studio version sings all of the female parts. She is..... Metal... As.... Fukk..... 🤘🤘
She is the grand old lady of female metal drumming in Japan, and the drummer of MTH. She has inspired lots of Japanese female drummers, e.g Tamu from Nemophila, Akane from BAND-MAID and Haruna from Lovebites. As said, not many are as metal as her. As you heard, she can also sing and she can also scream. BTW, she is 48 and I am 71. Would you like me to call her the girl at the drums?
@@uuasnyder No, I said not "old lady". "grand old lady" is something totally different. Shows that she is experienced and has been active for a while and is respected. BTW - she is 48 and I am 71, would you like me to call her the girl at the drums? 😀

Maximum the Hormone are Nao on drums and occasional clean vocals, her younger brother Ryo on guitar and both clean and harsh vocals, Daisuke on primarily harsh vocals (he's the one doing the sort of screamed rap parts), and Ue-chan on bass and occasional backup vocals. Their current lineup solidified in 1999, and they've been going strong ever since (barring a couple of hiatuses due to injury or maternity leave). Shimi is originally off their 2007 album Bu-ikikaesu. That album helped get them notice overseas, due to 2 of the songs from it being used as the second opening and ending themes for the anime Death Note. They're primarily metal, but have been known to include punk elements, and in some songs even pop, funk, and EDM. They're particularly known for sudden transitions between styles in the middle of songs that somehow manage to work, and are often compared favorably to System of a Down. Atarashii Gakko no Leaders (Leaders of the New School) or just Atarashii Gakko as they're branded in the west, are Suzuka, Kanon, Rin, and Mizyu. They formed in 2015, with their proper 'debut' in 2017. They've started to gain more overseas recognition lately, after being invited to perform on The First Take, and in december of last year they performed on Jimmy Kimmel. They sing, rap, and dance (doing all their own choreography), with song styles varying wildly, bu mostly in the area of, pop, hiphop/rap, and rock. Both bands are excellent, and very different from each other, but with similarly chaotic approaches that make this collaboration make a lot of sense. I highly recommend checking out more of both!
The woman at the end is the drummer for MTH, but I'll let the MTH fans go into more detail. AG! are the four women in the school/sailor uniforms. Their name means "New School" and they are a song and dance group who are becoming quite popular. AG! formed back in 2015 and are managed by Asobisystem and 88Rising. Mizyu (two hair bunches) had already worked with Asobisystem as a backup dancer with Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Suzuka, Kanon and Rin joined her. Mizyu is three years older than the others and so was sometimes called the leader by journalists, and the others still look to her in some circumstances, but Suzuka's extrovert personality and strong voice make her the obvious front woman - she's the tallest and has the first solo in the video. I wouldn't describe her as an angel, she's closer to a chaotic "kami". AG! are always quick to say that they have no leader. They are all trained dancers and do all of the choreography themselves and work with various producers on the songs including H ZettM, Money Mark and Yonkey. Their artistic input sets them apart from most J-pop and K-pop idol type groups and their stage shows are performed with a unique joy and flair. They just released a new album called "AG! Calling" and are on the second half of their first World Tour. AG!'s music is all over the place, but their style is always entertaining and fun and for an intro to them have a look for "Atarashi Gakko, Otona Blue, The First Take". Make sure you turn on the English subtitles.
Both bands are worth listening to separately :) Maximum the Hormone is a very influential metalcore hard-punk band, Atarashii Gakko is a Japanese female J-pop band (they have many genres and they are choreographers), they were the headliners of Coachella this year
Congrats on discovering Maximum the Hormone. The most fucking amazing japanese Band there is. Seen them three times live(2009, 2011 and 2022) and they are my most favorite live band. Can't wait for them to return to germany soon
The last singer you were wondering about is actually Maximum the Hormone's drummer, who is drumming her heart out in this video, and every song MTH has ever done! She does vocals on many of their songs. :)
Perfect reaction This band is insane. Still remember the first time i checked it 15years. Maximum hormone - Zetsubou billy and Buiikikaesu was insane back in the days.
dude MTH is like 10k volts to the balls. insane energy. somehow amidst all the chaos they write incredibly catchy songs. never heard of atarashii gakko until this song, but man they crushed this. lady at the end is the MTH drummer and sister of the guy w/ dreads. definitely worth checking out more of their stuff.
My gods i'm THRILLED you've found your way to Atarashii Gakko!! and Maximum the Hormone. AG is a younger group that truly are skyrocketing through the music scene in and out of Japan, and MTH has been around for 20ish years, both in my top 5 bands/groups of all time. MTH kinda broke out into western audiences through being one of the Opening and Closing songs for the anime Death Note and where I first fell in love with them. They're often referred to as the Japanese System of a Down cuz they have similar genre bending styles, but I think MTH is more extreme in the genre bending they do. AG!! is a DELIGHTFUL new discovery of mine that are just incredible to watch. I've only known of them for a couple months now but i'm full tilt into them now. Their music is kind of a call to arms to the younger generations to question the societal norms around them - especially in their home country as Japan can be kind of really strict in ways most would never expect. Really hope to see you react to both groups in the future, as they're both just a full joy to watch. Just know that to my knowledge, this collab is the first dive AG!! has done into rock/metal, but christ is it a good one. Their stuff is more unconventional pop/rock/jazz/city pop/hip-hop, where MTH is just...well chaos of the best kind lol
As a Japanese who has seen your reaction videos many times in the past, I never imagined you would reach Maximum. But I'm glad the first song you heard wasn't crazy one. For example, the song from the video where the girl is puking. lol
found them through Death Note and have loved them ever since! spent some good times listening to them with friends and how wild the changes are in each song lol
It is time to go down the ATARASHII GAKKO! rabbit hole. I highly recommend their First Take video and Koi Geba. Koi Geba is my favorite song from them and it is about teachers having inappropriate relationships with their students. I love the music video to it as well. The song that has brought in the current wave of fans is Tokyo Calling and that has a deeper meaning as well.
Maximum the Hormone are an amazing band, they incorporate lots of genres into their metal music. Koi no Amerika is quite a decent one to show these mix of genres.
know the original version since 2007, but this one is even better with the synth in the chorus, the piano in the pre-chorus, etc. Atarashi voices are super nice, it just add some great layers to an already great song!
This song just showed up in me feed some time ago and I didn't realise it was featuring another band. I was just enjoying SHIMI the same way I've been for over a decade and this blew me away!
