I saw and remembered this video and i thought to myself, "Hey, if raak can do it, maybe I can too" So I did. I went on UFO Lunatic and did it. I got to Byakuren there I was. Her last spell. Under the same circumstances. And I realized that No. No I can not do it.
I just realized something. Byakuren is probably the closest to a Mary Sue in the Touhou universe. I mean, think about it. She's non-alcoholic, she's a vegan, she's a saint, befriends both humans and youkai, and has the most impossible shade of hair ever. Hell, I bet that's the actual reason she was sealed in the first place.

Some humans distrust her because she's a youkai, and her temple is often populated by youkai that don't even follow her teachings (her preachings typically fall on deaf ears). Many youkai dislike her because she acts very un-youkai-like and unaggressive. In fact, even Akyuu in her article about Byakuren seems rather distrustful of her, calling her powers "evil". In essence, she's got flaws just like any other character. Hell, if any character was close to a Mary Sue, I'd say it's Yukari--she has ridiculously OP powers and claims to have no weaknesses. The only thing that prevents her from being a Sue, though, is that almost no one likes her and everyone distrusts her whenever she arrives on the scene. But then again, the few friends she DOES have are uber-powerful as well...

UFO and SA are like "You want to experience total despair? Here's your go!". While LolK and others are sometimes infuriating, sometimes unfair, sometimes challenging hard, those both are the essence of heartbreaking cruel. That's what I felt.

I love your Touhou Lps, they amuse me so much, I also love that you bomb and die a fair amount because it gives it a sense of true achivement when you win through. (Watching a guy play through without dying or using bombs is impresive but it lacks the whole game aspect, making it look more like a career)
Let me add, too, that I love what you did with this. You didn't just play it through, you added fun commentary and even had custom music. I genuinely enjoyed watching this. :D

I must say, i'm enjoying the transition from intro picture to actual gameplay more than I should. I love the byakuren's scroll transition the most. Hats off to you for completing this on lunatic, i'm completely stuck on hard mode. Got any tips for "Light Magic: Magic Milky Way"? I cannot capture that spell for the life of me.
This stage brought back nightmares from Mystic Square; the fact that Byakuren was staying in *Makai*, creation of a certain you-know-who, makes it all the more appropriate...
@barplyer That attack is actually a direct reference to Shinki's second to last attack in Touhou: Mystic Square. It's almost a complete copy/paste. It's still Touhou though, and Mystic Square came out before Mushihmesama Futari, 1998 to be exact. So bluntly put, it was probably just a coincidence ~

There's one little tidbit on info that I always found to be interesting; the humans in the village are all decendent's of powerful human's who could hunt Yokai if need be, but it's implied that the humans now, for the most part, are just normal humans. The humans in the human village were originally very aware that they were basically where the Yokai were, and chose to stay when the border was going up. I just want to know why the humans became so weak, or don't even have a guardian (Not Keine).
if you notice aside form the devil reincarnation spell card byakuren those all the attack of shinki lil by lil like when it star as when she shot the giant lazer and the patter of when she gona die shooting the energy ball like left and right rising a lil bit
The last spellcard was truly intense. Not only he(she) started it on his(her) last life and with no bombs, but also had 1/32 score on it. His(her) odds were awful and it was very unlikely he(she) would succeed. That feeling at the end mush have been awesome.

Hey, way to go! Although I only finished extra and hard in series before MoF, I think I would try again the series in hard then try lunatics! I haven't yet got to try much of UFO and Subterranean Animism, How do you feel about the gap between hard and lunatic in that 2 series?
from my experience (mostly on normal) I'd say Byakuren, but Utsuho and Remilia are close behind. Next would probably be Kanako and Yuyuko, with Kaguya and Eirin easiest because IN is pretty easy in general and you get a lot of resources for them. Miko from TD is super easy but I think that's just because TD is easier in general

The way you beated Byakuren reminds of me firts time I fought her (on normal though...) I was completely without lives o bombs, and It was the first time I faced her Spellcard Flying Object "Flying Gantastica" (Gotta love that name) and somehow I managed to beat her... YEaj... good times...

That's good. Each run will give you progress. I was finally able to 1cc SA... I don't have a problem with Utsuho, but by god, Rin eats all of my lives, and I don't know what to do about it! I can go into stage 5 with 7 lives, and walk out with 2...
Lol I remember beating Byakuren for the first time; I had all lives and almost perfected all her attacks until her final spell! That thing took ALL my lives and I barely won. :o
At the end, that was really was epic with no lives/bombs. And yet, despite her awesomeness, I still wish ZUN had put her brother in here somewhere, just because he was supposed to be the Stage 6 boss (and then ZUN realized "Wait, this is Touhou! No male bosses!" So Byakuren was there instead). Come on, out of nowhere, "Wait, a MALE boss?" would have been a major "WTF?" moment. Byakuren should have been Phantasm (which would mean the second game with an official Phantasm, and would be awesome).
i say that the last spellcard's name on easier dificulties (normal and easy I think) is more epic, on the other side. the danmaku on hard and lunatic is flashier prettier and harder. name on easy and normal: ''unidentified flying fantastica'' names on hard and lunatic: ''legendary flying saucer''? thats weird.
Every time I make it to this stage something comes up. When I sit back down, I just can't focus enough to dodge those damn bullets. I fought her one time with five lives and three bombs, Could not even make it to her third spell. It was so sad. (It was my first time getting that far though...)
that is what happened to me on the final spell i had no bombs or lives so I had to capture it and It was my time on that spell I thought I was going to die and lose but I beat her same time that happened with kanako too when that happens I call it a raak moment
I'm still light years away from facing Byakuren........*plays UFO* 10 minutes later, *loses all continues on stage 3* damn Light years measures distance not time. well, I'll get to her eventually but right I'm going to focus on beating TD on normal 1cc, I can beat the bosses without dying in practice but I can't seem to do it in story mode either because of my own stupidity or I get greedy with points.
I did something similar to this back in LLS... the one time I got to final stage (on Normal), I ended up at Yuka with no bombs or lives in reserve. But, it wasn't pretty X)

I'm still light years away from facing Byakuren........*plays UFO* 10 minutes later, *loses all continues on stage 3* damn Light years measures distance not time.
well, I'll get to her eventually but right I'm going to focus on beating TD on normal 1cc, I can beat the bosses without dying in practice but I can't seem to do it in story mode either because of my own stupidity or I get greedy with points.
I did something similar to this back in LLS... the one time I got to final stage (on Normal), I ended up at Yuka with no bombs or lives in reserve. But, it wasn't pretty X)
