Pretty great to see Atari still supporting this already fantastic package of games even further! I’ll definitely be getting it! Maybe even another physical version for Switch.
I wish they would add playable digital versions of the old late 1970s pinball machines to Atari 50, like Superman, Space Riders, Middle Earth, Airborne Avengers, The Atarians and Hercules.
This is so cool I’ll definitely pick up the updated physical release. Very excited for this and the Gamestation Portable this year. I hope we hear more about the latter soon.
Will definitely pick up another physical version of this as it was such a labour of love. Still waiting for a disc of Digital Eclipse's excellent Llamasoft compilation as well
I feel like it was a missed opportunity of not including the arcade version of Night Driver, given its historical significance with the company and where the idea came from. I just hope it is one of the new 39 games (especially the arcade version).
I disagree a bit, but get what you are saying. If it is only dlc, it will be download only and with the Switch being the console I got it on, I would much rather have it on a cart without the internet check every time I open the game.
Amazing collection, i bought it in PlayStation Store, digital version, with the 2 DLC included for 49 Euros. A real must have for every GenX. Really amazing (second DLC is not yet available at the moment and will be released in November)
I already have the Atari 50 on steam , and I will buy the DLC when it will come out , especially interesting to me that they will talk a little bit about the intellivision, the first ever console I got, thanks for the video Jon
Hell yeah I'm buying it! I already bought Atari Flashback Classics Vol. 3 for $20 to play more 5200 & M Network games on my Xbox along with Atari 50 Collection.
In another youtube video I stated the Atari 50 was the gift that keeps on giving, so happy this is an accurate statement. My only criticism of the Atari 50 is the Atari ST coverage as it's just a paragraph of text and no game representation, I really hope they do another update to correct this.
I sincerely hope that the lack of Atari St games is more about some kind of Licensing matter, and therefore hopefully they get their ducks in a row such that they can release a single Atari St package as DLC
I own the regular edition for the switch. I think I am gonna double down and get the Steel Book edition on this one. It's seems worth it as this will be the definitive edition for this collection. Man between this and the Marvel Vs Capcom collection coming out this is a great year for retro collections. Now if Sega could give us a Crazy Taxi collection that would be the perfect trio for me. 😅
Atari 50 is a great buy as is, I’m happy to pay for more cool shit in there. I’ll probably grab that steel book as well as pick up the dlc on my VCS. I don’t mind throwing money at a good product, and this is one of the best retro compilations released by anyone.
I still haven't picked this game up. It looks like the timing is definitely right to more strongly consider it now. And you know I love me a steelbook.
I really hope SEGA puts out something like this in a physical release. They have such a big library of arcade & console games to choose from that aren't part of the Genesis console & many have never been re-released. As for "Atari 50", yes I have it & since the new expanded version is also getting a physical release, looks like I'll be buying it again. :)
@@chrisstory563 Correct, in fact they've released several compilations of mostly SEGA Genesis games plus a few arcade games thrown in. Just as Atari had also released several Atari 2600 game compilations along with some arcade games too. But SEGA now has a chance to go all-out & release the ultimate compilation, just as Atari did with "Atari 50".
Yeah I’ll happily pay a tenner to get that content. And it’s a good reason to finally also buy the switch version for me. I got it on the XBox, but eversince I bought a switch I tend to play that far more.
They really did go above and beyond with the presentation of all those games and their supplemental materials. Hopefully they set some kind of standard for how to do that.
yep! pulled the trigger on steam $25 ... actually also picked up avain knights, new montazoomas revenge )new/retro( , doom 2016, bandi pacman pack 1 and high on life ... I also noticed amazone has a sale ... Game station pro #2 for $49 and a communistdore 64 mini for $44 ...
I am worried that they will still largely ignore the Atari ST and its games. That is the Atari machine that had the biggest impact in Europe. And by far… :(
This is how you take care of your customers. I hope it wins over the folks who are resisting, that say "This isn't really Atari". Because, well, with respect, it is Atari. A company is whomever owns the rights to it. And as long as they're giving customers what they want, then that's what matters. And we all know how much of a shortage we have of companies who don't cater to their customers! Lookin at you, AAA developers!
Definitely sounds worthwhile and I'm surely interested, but if it's paid DLC even for current owners, I'll wait for more context before deciding to purchase.
I would like more games from the Jaguar because at the time when that system came out it was up against the PS1 & the Sega Saturn. It definitely looked like an interesting system plus I thought it would be cool for Atari to make a comeback but I didn’t see any recognizable arcade hits like Mortal Kombat & Daytona USA, which is why I leaned towards the Saturn 🪐 and then the PS1. But now looking back in hindsight I want to try some of those old Jaguar games to see what I missed and including the 7800 games. I did pick up the Atari VCS 800(love it for what it is) and I plan to download some of those games; plus I love going on Antstream with the VCS; the perfect combination of retro games on a retro inspired console.
It's really going to depend on what games are on this new expanded compilation DLC as we haven't heard so far what these games are going to be. Also I do own the 50th anniversary collection and if the DLC expanded pack is more then $10 then it'll be a pass for me. I do have fondness for the classic games but I already have previous Atari compilations already from the PS1/Xbox to the PS2. So I think that the developers are really going to have to have some more unique and obscure Atari titles for this expansion pack to be enticing to gamers if they have to pay for it if they already have the 50th anniversary collection.
I really wish they would expand the 3rd section in VCTR SCTR into a stand alone game. It's like Beamrider but WAY better. Unfortunately, the opening Asteroids section always costs me at least 1 of my 3 lives.
@@GenXGrownUp It could get interesting because in the game select menu for the 2600 games, there are a lot of blank cartridges on the last screen at the moment. Fingers crossed!
I’m undecided on whether to double dip on getting the new steel book edition even though I got the first steel book edition since it has all of the dlc in the cartridge and cool physical stuff or just get the new content as dlc for a lower price.
39 games is a heck of alot of games, and alot more than the M Metwork collection. Something tells me there are going to be some unexpected goodies in this.
I hope those pictures of Berzerk in the Atari art cards and marquee signs are an indication that the playable game itself will make an appearance in the Expanded Edition of Atari 50.
This expanded edition does not have an Xbox release. Just PS5 and Switch, but there is a steel book edition for the Switch only. Also I read that for those of us that bought the original Atari 50 will get all of this stuff in a DLC later this year. I’m guessing this will be a paid DLC because of how much content there is.
Thanks my friend for the shoutout! And yes, I do sleep with one eye open on the Atari news wires lol ;) There's a former journalist in me somewhere.. haha. Btw, congrats on 50 k subs! I'm right on your heels with 1.7 k but don't fret, i think you'll be just fine :D lol but seriously, congrats and thanks for being such a great part of the community
I plan on it, I'm just hoping the price of the DLC isn't going to get too greedy. In the economy like this is. It's my hope that it stays reasonable. (Say under $20)
I love that they are covering both ends. If ya own it get the DLC. Ill be happy to pay as long as its not crazy $. If you dont, , Atari will be gobbling up possible new customers of the brand. esp on Switch where u can get a whole new "younger" demographic. Someone's using their brain over there which can't be said for other companies like Disney, paramount, a few gaming co's who seem to be clueless.
I will be all over this DLC. Supporting them will provide us with more content!
I'll be getting the dlc when it arrives. This is genuinely the best retro game compilation I've played.
My my my… what a truly remarkable age this is! Looking forward to this with great interest.
Was about to buy the original release but after hearing this new version and being released physically, I'm definitely gonna get that version
Pretty great to see Atari still supporting this already fantastic package of games even further! I’ll definitely be getting it! Maybe even another physical version for Switch.
I agree, Jon; I am happy to pay for an update like this!
I will be buying again for ALL platforms including the steel book edition. Well worth the expense, imho... Thanks, Jon!!!
Can't wait for this. I have it on The VCS and PS5.
Nice! This is a great set, and the fact that they keep adding to is is awesome.
Looking forward to getting the DLC, the last expansion was great!
This will be free DLC on the VCS per David Paige so I’m all about this. Good stuff Atari!

That’s good news ! Can’t wait for this update !
I think it was a better choice to release it as a DLC rather than selling a new separate game.
They're doing both, so those who got in early can upgrade and those who never picked it up can get the new bundle.
This one replaces the old and people with the original can upgrade. Would love Stern arcade in there and they get Activision/Imagic in there.
I disagree a bit, but get what you are saying. If it is only dlc, it will be download only and with the Switch being the console I got it on, I would much rather have it on a cart without the internet check every time I open the game.

I hope so too. When I heard that in the Llamasoft Collection they used Jag ports of the ST games, my heart cried... Could DE not handle ST emulation?
I’m still trying to figure out what the Atari 50 is. I was under the impression it was just a bloated collection of ten cartridges that cost $1000.
