    Glad to see someone talking SPR workstations from a more client angle. I wish these were true X299 HEDT successors, but entry price Memory + OC CPU + Mobo is around $2400 USD. When you can get into a 13900K + Mobo + Memory for around $1200 (trying to keep component quality/capacity similar) it just doesn't make sense to jump up unless you're a professional.

      Eve professionals only you will need those kind of perf when you have a big big server or make lots of stuff like science researching but the 13900k is good for the majority of cases with 192gb ddr5 6400mhz and 60% the performance of theses master cpus

      I purchased an Intel W7-2495X, ASUS W790 ACE, and 512GB DDR5, only because I need more than 128GB of memory for the software that I develop. So the consumer platforms limited to a maximum 128GB doesn't work for me. I have an AMD R9-5950X, ASUS ROG X570, 128GB, RTX, and I can eat the 128GB no problem. Same with both of my X99 systems.
      I can see Intel moving past X299 due to PCIe5 and DDR5 and everything else that has changed since then. Intel is competing against Threadripper Pro.

    My Intel W7-2495X 24-Core 48-Thread, ASUS W790 ACE, 512GB DDR5 RDIMM, RTX, is already ordered and expected any day now.
    I went with the ASUS instead of the ASRock because of the ASRock PCIe slot design. The ACE should have had TB and WiFi6 though for the price, even though I don't use either of those.

    I hope that they aren't really talking about the W790 much because they actually are bringing back HEDT because we need a quad channel 40 lane platform that's affordable instead of starts at $2000+. I mean just strip the ECC, cut back to 1 dimm per channel and 40 instead of 64 lanes and things should be much more affordable.

    • @daveg4417
      @daveg4417 ปีที่แล้ว

      Compared to AMD Threadripper and Threadripper Pro, the Intel W2400 and W3400 are priced pretty decently. My W2400 system was much less than the TRPro that I priced out.
      The W5-2455X 12-Core starts at just over $1000 US. The W3-2423 6-Core is at $359 RCP 1Ku.

    • @cracklingice
      @cracklingice ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daveg4417 There currently is no Threadripper line to compete with the W2400. Threadripper Pro competes with the W3400. In this case the $1600 W5-3435X vs $1100 5955WX. The W2400 could have been good if they were not asking slightly more for the W790 entry level chip than they asked for the top of the line chip when X99 launched. W5-2455X is the entry level chip for enthusiast DIY. You cannot buy non X SKUs at retail even if you were not going to overclock. The non X SKUs are only available as tray units and tray units are only available to system integrators who cannot sell individual unit CPUs. I do miss the days of tray CPUs on Newegg. Oh the great deals you could get in exchange for questionable 1 year warranties instead of full Intel warranties. Honestly, they need to bring that back.

      not necessarily. roiding would be similar to using a cheating software to produce high overclocks instead of actual skill and knowledge to overclock.

      @@BBWahoo 50 degrees isn't high enough to cause issues with most ram, I guess you just have more sensitive dies, typically the only ones known to have issues at low temps like that were Samsung b die. But anyways the point was to check temps right as you have errors not after 4 major errors.
      Edit: my ram gets to 65 degrees and has no issues. Samsung E die. I have them at 1.45v.
