What a couple of weeks jarman had. He pretty much won the prelim for the crows the week before and then kicking 5 in the last quarter of a grand final. What a player he was.
The 4th quarter I think is where Adelaide just began to pull away. Their defense became stout, they weren't surrendering as many points, and Jarman played out of his mind throughout that entire quarter.
That was one cool looking Saints kit though. Pitty how they ditched it sometime in the early 00s and went back to the boring old one. I hate it how clubs tend to think they're edgy these days by going for a "less-is-more" look. Freo could've done without the red and green before admittedly, but the shade of purple they wear now is so dark and dreary that it might aswell not even be purple at all. Port need to bring more teal back instead of trying to be cool by minimising it as much as possible. And North also had a nice bluer home kit for a few years before bringing back the shitty "traditional" one recently. I knew it wouldn't last.
I said during that final quarter back in 1997 that Jamie Shanahan would never play another game for St Kilda - and he never did. Had 10 goals kicked on him - by his direct opponents during that game.
29 years old still waiting to see my first Crows flag. Hate how cursed this club became. I've known since i was a kid I'd never see my club win a flag. All the crows do is torture you and let you down
@Khaosgrenade only saints fans over 30. Imagine being a 60 year old saints fan still waiting to see your club to win one flag. That will be 29 year old crows fans today when they are 60.
I was thinking of the standard of game compared to today. Now, half of those tackles would be reports, and a good many of the marks paid 50. How soft has it got now 😅 Saints definitely played the better game in the first half, just didn't convert. Then they got tired quicker.
A nightmare, a calamity, a disaster and a travesty. What could be worse than an Adelaide Crows Premiership? Two Premierships. But after 25 years, at least we can say there's been no more. :)
The run from half back, blight's imagination, and the fitness was just too much. Saints were a bit flat, and their prime movers were neutralized. Blight and Alves teamates during North's first glory years, Alves was out matched on the day.
Isn't it strange, the old AFL. A team like St Kilda plays in a Grand Final on 1997...goes in as favourite and has the hopes of so many Saints supporters and neutral Victorians hoping they'd win their second flag....they're playing the hated Adelaide Crows, coached by the fella who wasted a very good Geelong side with stupid coaching decisions and tactics which lost them three Grand Finals('89,'92,''94) before letting his apprentice lose one in '95. St Kilda, a team full of champions in 1997....making loads of finals and then "POOF" they're useless and getting all of the top draft talent in Reiwoldt, Koshitzke, Hayes..and others in the top ten draft picks for years. Then they turned that into a dynasty....of abject failure. What a great club they are The Saints. Great team of stellar players who won nothing. They even had two goes at a flag in 2010 and were embarrassed the second weekend. They really should've won the first game. The run down and smother by Heath Shaw told the tale of the day early. Losing is in their very fibre. It's the way of the Red, White and Black. A useless club with no chance of another flag. I had a boss two years ago tell me "the Saints will play finals for the next ten years. Look at the list. They're ten times better than Hawthorn." My reply was simple..."Yeah but my side knows how to win finals when we get there. And we know how to win the Premiership when we play for it." He was incredulous, "You know nothing about football if you think Hawthorn will out perform St Kilda in the next two seasons." I wonder if he remembers this conversation the same way? I'm guessing he's forgotten and has a million excuses just like every other Saints fan. Their coach must be feeling comfortable...the coaches always seem to be the scapegoats at St Kilda. Ha! Remember Stan Alves tenure? Tim Watson's? Malcolm Blights? They're a farcical football club..if you can indeed call them that. And to think ..the AFL preferred a merger between Hawthorn and Melbourne rather than rolling the Saints into another Melbourne club? Insane leadership or lack thereof.
When i think about all the great talented players over the decades that didn't get to a GF it makes me cringe to see Jayson Daniels playing in one. How does a player of such poor ability get to play even 2 games of AFL footy. Staggering.

Second half of this GF is the best half of footy I've ever seen from Crows. Was very fortunate to be there in person that day.
This was real football. Exciting end to end stuff, players colliding everywhere, no chipping backwards or any of that - just all out. Love it
nice one, a very under rated grand final!
Not for a Crows fan, all we have is memories like this lol
The first Grand Final I went to. What a ghastly day.
gosh i loved re watching this!! Crows forever.
After halftime, the crows did not miss a single shot at goal.
14 straight goals.
1 rushed behind.
Surely that’s some sort of record?
Good Grand Final this.

Interesting fact,in this Grand Final the same umpires umpired in 1996 as well.
According to the Umpires Association, Hayden Kennedy (7) did not umpire in 1996, it was Gavin Dore (19)
how did Jarman not win Norm Smith? Mcloud really not sighted in an hour of highlights...
An early preview of woke disease
Because he wasn't aboriginal.
Those colours really clash, makes it pretty hard to distinguish the players, the commentators did a good job though.

This was a ripping GF - highly underrated
Tough day at the office for Shanahan, especially in the 4th

@@TommyRooshooterAlves was a shit coach, stuck in the 70s. Got lucky because he had such an awesome list.

29 years? 1998 was 25 years ago this year (2023). How is it in the future?
Ok now imagine being a Saints fan watching this 😂

D Jarman !!🎉
Australian cricket captain not happy
Amazing work. May I ask the source of all the material you have?

:)
7:34 9:02

902 insane goal
734 wow that's a goal
What a team

Imagine writing a comment that long and thinking anyone cares about what you have to say. You sound like an absolute flog!
Robert Harvey should give his undeserved Brownlow medal to Chris Grant while he is at it... Shame..
No way

Probably played more games of AFL than you ever did….
Let me guess, you reached your peak at Under-12 warming the bench….?
