Goldfinger (Reconstruction of the Unreleased Music) - Music by John Barry

  • This album contains a reconstruction of all the unreleased music heard in the James Bond film GOLDFINGER. It was created by listening to the film audio, transcribing each cue to sheet music by ear, and rebuilding it using high-quality virtual instruments, while aiming to be as faithful as possible to the original version. Although creating the album took plenty of time and effort, it was a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy listening to these terrific compositions by the maestro John Barry.

    this is truly fantastic. I love the Barry Bond music and have been looking for score reductions of this music so I could study it but cannot seem to find much for the Bond music anywhere. Great work!

    MARVELOUS!!!!!!! A work with attention to the smallest details and with a very organic and human sound (which is essential for music like this). I have always loved the various James Bond films from the 60s-70s and in particular those with the legendary Sean Connery!!!! Keep up the great work :) :) :)

    Here may be a new project for you.
    Now that Lala Land Records have started putting out some of the old scores, there may not be quite the same need for people to do remakes of the unreleased stuff - that being said, someone told me the mastertape for From Russia With Love was nowhere to be found, so maybe that could be a new project.

    Superb work. I really admire all the time and talent you spent getting these tracks spot-on. Even the briefest of Barry cues always contained a flash of genius and now thanks to your sterling efforts the world can enjoy the full Goldfinger experience. Truly a musical Grand Slam!

      @@pikebishop_jamesbond Just wanted to say mate, after all the hoopla and merchandise releases for the Bond 60th anniversary your Goldfinger score was by far the most worthwhile release this year. And it was free! I return to listen to this again and again, and just wanted to thank you for being so generous with your Barry recreations.

    Thanks so much for putting in the effort to do this. They sound wonderful, and indeed add to my playlist nicely for a complete score. I had just re-watched Goldfinger - as part of my frequent re-watching of all Bonds every few years - and I always noticed the missing cues. I stumbled on this, and am SO glad I did. As others have stated, there are other films that could use this treatment ☺

    These all sound awesome and amazingly super close to the originals….in both sound and old school vibe. What libraries are you using and what sort of mastering chain are you using to get that 60s sound??

    • @pikebishop_jamesbond
      @pikebishop_jamesbond  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rich, it's a honor to see you around these parts. Thanks for the kind words. For the most part, I used Spitfire libraries (Symphonic Strings and Symphonic Brass) for these tracks. I don't know if I have a mastering chain that I consciously used. I can tell you that I don't remember using much automatic compression, if any, on each instrument or group of instruments. When I had to adjust volume, I mostly did it by editing the volume automation curves by hand. I would say much of the effort on these tracks went into adjusting the relative volume of each instrument (or section) to match the timbral qualities of the original cues as closely as possible. Then, each instrument or section was rendered and sometimes received further editing (cut-and-paste, crossfading, etc.) in order to shape the performance more precisely. I only used an extremely basic reverb plugin when I felt it was necessary; the rest of the time I just adjusted the sliders for the three mic positions on the settings of each instrument. Certain tracks called for individual solutions. I had to overlay two piccolos from different libraries for track 14. I think I did the same with the shrieking trumpets in track 7.

      @@pikebishop_jamesbond great sound! I have a lot of the VSL libraries. Love the sound of the orchestra from this era. I may have to look at the spitfire symphonic libraries again. What do you think of VSL?

    Good work and fine transcriptions, but the synthetic/virtual sound is not quite convincing in many passages. An orchestra with real instruments still can't be beaten.
