I am in a car club with over 330 members. A group of C8 owners have their own little “clique”, and do not give us lower generation Vette owners the time of day. We try to interact, but gave up over the last few years. It is what it is…
I'm in a Corvette club which I think has a little over 100 members. It seems to lean heavy towards later models. I know every generation Corvette is represented in the club, but some by owners who have multiple 'Vettes and drive the newer ones. I'm new, but I've been on two road trips with them so far. First trip had 1 C5, 3 C7, 4 C8. Second trip had 1 C6, 7 C7, 1 C8. At the monthly dinner/meeting, the parking lot is dominated by C7s and C8s. Fortunately I have not noticed any snobbery from newer Corvette owners towards older Corvette owners. We have rich people with multiple C8s and people just barely able to afford a well-used C5, and everyone seems to get along great. (I've only seen the C1, C2, C3 at our car show and in pictures. I know people have them, but I haven't seen them driving them around. Even the C4 seems to be in that category that I know club members have C4s, but I don't see them.)
Yeah and I wave and most Vette all years wave but C8 is by itself I don't like it and have money to buy never will love My C7 Z51 manual last of the breed
Thank you, Lyle, I own a black C6 convertible for the past year. I’m just learning all the etiquette. Thank you for making it easy for me to understand his an 11th Commandment. When the lights on your dashboard start coming on, bring it to the mechanic. don’t wait a month lol.
As both a Corvette and Boss owner I agree. My world fractured when Ford broke this sacred rule! Please Chevrolet, keep my world from entirely falling apart. 🙏
I've owned Corvettes since i was 15, starting with a 58. All new subsequent models inevitably have a bunch of snobs who insist on not acknowledging previous generations. But as the age into ownership ( talking about 1st time owners) they usually begin to wave. This has happened to me since the Seventies. I currently own a c3, c4 vert and a c5 6sd base(daily driver). I love all generations. I field tech questions on all posts I can to try to lead people to ultimately driving and enjoying their Corvettes without them sitting for long periods of time. The snobbiest of all the Corvette owners is hands down C-8 owners. Maybe it's because most of them haven't owned other generations and believe theirs is unique. Look the Corvette platform is and has always been GMs tested for new technologies, often being implemented on Corvettes years before other production cars. Some would say the Corvette "supercars" began with the C-4. Most don't realize how revolutionary that platform was, outperforming Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Astin Martin, in handling, performance, and braking. Then the C-5 took it to another level and it kept building from there. C-8 people need to realize every generation was the foundation for the next. Wave at all Corvettes, no matter what they look like or what they are, because they're all special.
Excellent list. RE: Commandment Six, never have I been more thankful to own a C4 (at factory ride height)…I have clean access up the driveway driving forward and down the driveway backing out. I tried backing UP the driveway in my C4 once. ONCE.
I am the retail parts guy at a Chevrolet dealership that is in the top three for Corvette sales nationwide. One day, a customer was in line to purchase a hat with the crossed-flags Corvette logo on it. Another customer asked him, "Oh, you have a C8?" "No," replied the hat purchaser, "mine is a C7." Huffing like a male Karen, the second guy said, "You can't wear that - it's a C8 hat!" The hat guy and I both rolled our eyes. I guess it takes all kinds in this world.
I try to stick to buying the proper emblem (C5) and my wife is the same with her C3 (‘79 single bar) but I did needed a visor to keep the sun off of my face one time and could only find a C7 and I still wear it at the shows. This is Texas, you get sunburned quickly.
#9 - I'm not just a Vette guy, I'm a car guy. I don't care what it is (well, not sure about that Beemer 🤣) , if I see a fellow car guy stranded, I'm checking on him. #10 - Not sure what it is, but a lot of the C8 guys are the same here in Ohio... I still wave, and do get the occasional return, but usually not.
I have a C5. It has always my dream to own one. I love that car more than I love myself. You have given me the best advice on what it means to own one, best ways to maintain one and best of all pride in owning one, no matter what generation. it's very hard for me to tell others what it is like to own a Corvette unless you drive one, but you always find a way to express it. Thank you for all the videos you make, I hope every new Corvette owner finds your channel and finds it as informative as I did.
I've noticed that too. When out with my C5 most of the C8 owners don't wave. Heck I even passed a Lamborghini and the guy gave waved and a thumbs out. We were both out in are rides cruising the back roads on a sunny day.
Coming from the custom car hobby where in addition to making a car look cool and tens of thousands of dollars are spent on performance, body work, handling, braking and safety features, etc. I've been entertained by some who resort to pasting or gluing or screwing "custom" stuff on their corvettes in an effort to customize their ride. While I get their attempts of individualization, I feel that my base 2008 C6 coupe is perfect just the way it came out of the factory.
To paraphrase Jeff Spicoli from Fast Times At Ridgemont High "Corvettes aren't just a sport, it's no hobby it's a way of life, it's a way of looking at that Vette and saying 'Hey bud, let's party'" ;-) Also where I live we have numerous touchless automatic car washes, no brushes whatsoever.
❤ Absolutely a great video I'm a real car guy....I think the Corvette is a great vehicle.....a new to the Corvette owner with a C5 all the way over in Chilliwack, British Columbia on the west coast. Recently purchased a driver's seat belt from C5 Corvettes....the service was simply perfect.....thanks for the Corvette Conmandments
"Save the Wave!" I believe in "Even, Steven"... I don't drive your car and you don't drive mine, but I'll wave to you. Story--On the way to the NCM years ago, we stopped to help a stranded C4 owner. All he needed was a new serpentine belt, which we just happened to have. Fifteen minutes later we were all back on the road again. We were as happy at being able to help as he was at being helped.
Our 2023 HTC has front lift which can be programmed with 1,000 locations to automatically lift. We use it every time we enter or leave our driveway. It is not good when pulling into parking spaces with bumper stops because it lowers when you turn the engine off. The front and rear cameras get a lot of use. Great videos, thank you. Our C8 replaced our C6 convertible with a manual transmission, the C6 was a great car. Our C8 is the best vehicle this 76 yo has ever driven, it does everything I need and Yes I wave to all other Vettes.
It's encouraging to hear the Corvette Community is still a thing. When my parents purchased a new C1 in 1960, as a child I remember the monthly magazine and Corvette owners waving at each other. It was unlike anything else.
Hey Lyle, I love your videos! I have an 03 C5 Z06 like you and the wave is the 1st commandment I thought of and I look forward to waving to other corvette drivers. Yes, C8 owners don’t always wave. Hopefully it’s not that they think they are too good for us! lol. An exception to the automatic car wash rule might be an automatic touchless car wash. We have one in town and it seems to work great. Regarding the cheap fuel rule, I agree, especially considering our cars recommend 91 octane. I might add that non ethanol fuel might be an additional best option, especially up here in Washington State where many corvettes are stored for the Winter.
Sadly, almost every newest generation Vette owner doesn't do the wave. Many don't buy a new Corvette to be a part of the culture. They just buy one to brag to their neighbors about a shiny new thing. It takes time for that Corvette to cycle through the used market before it finds an owner who will wave. Not always, but quite often
Excellent advice Lyle. I’ve an idea for Corvette Commandment 11- thou shalt engage in preventative maintenance. An ounce of prevention = a pound of cure.
Great video Lyle! I have found an alternative to the premium fuel rule that seems to work great! I use 87 octane fuel and add Amsoil Dominator Octane Boost to raise the octane 4 numbers to 91 and added up its less money than premium, all while removing carbon deposits and increasing performance! If I add it to 89, my LS6 really screams! 😊
Great Video :) I'm in Australia and bought a C6 this year. Other Vette owners here always wave:) Not that there are a lot of them getting around. Keep up the great work
When I was 25 I bought me a c5, and that wave 👋🏻 thing really threw me off, I'd just wave back, but didn't know it was a thing. I also get the wave from c4 guys when I'm in my 01 ws6, it's neat
Back in 1976 at 19 my first car purchase was a 65 couple that the seller stuffed a 396 into. We waved back then to others. Dang wish I still had that ride. C6 now.
C8 owners here in Miami/Fort Lauderdale (I own a C5) genuinely have been younger people (I’m 42) and yeah most don’t wave lol 😂 though I did have a cool interaction with a guy in West Palm Beach who owns a C8. Yes though, WAVE GUYS AND GALS!!!
I own a C6 in the P. Pines area and have the same issues with them not waving but that won't stop me from waving at any other Corvette that I see out on the road. 🖐✌👍
I love the wave and give it every time I see another Corvette. If you don’t get the wave back you have to take into consideration that maybe the other driver just didn’t notice you and your car, so I don’t take offense if don’t get the wave back.
Excellent list. I have a 2003 C5. I'm guilty of using a car wash - maybe once a month. I still wash it by hand but less frequently. I'm 71 and hand washing my Vette is not fun. BTW...I also noticed most C8 owners don't seem to know about the wave. 🖐
I’m 64 and yes, washing the corvette isn’t easy! A tip, I put a car wash brush inside a car wash mitt, cut a hole in the side of the mitt for the brush handle to go through and wash it with the handle. It ease to reach everywhere!
I have a C8 and have previous generations, you must do the wave, drove yesterday passed 3 newer Vettes I waved no one else waved, glad you discussed the wave it’s a cool thing, live in Arizona, think everyone that buys a Vette should be given a tutorial on the wave
Excellent topic and great commandments . Respect owners , Corvettes, and the hobby . Save the wave and help educate new owners . A new generation will be upon us shortly . No other model of automobile has this tradition .
My take on backing into a parking place is that your either have to back in or back out. Does it take a bit longer to back in? Yes but it also takes longer to back out. In addition, if back in, you often have some marginal improvement in visibility when pulling out which is handy in general and extra handy being able to deal with those that just can't be courteous and have to zip by as you are exiting the spot.
Hey Lyle, appreciate what you do. You impress me as a stand up guy. Wish I lived closer to Sarasota (except for Huricanes) so I could have you work on my 98 C5. Thanks, Oklahoma Stray Dog
Unfortunately during Helene and Milton I was forced to put 87 octane and an octane booster into my 2019 C7 here in Tampa because of an extreme gas shortage for weeks. My bug out location was a bit farther from my work so I ended up going through my full tank going back and forth before the gas shortage stopped. I am glad that the C7's computer can contend with the fuel and re-adjust compression, but still. I am getting emergency cans of 93 for next year's season.
So I broke number 1 because I used to fuel up at a Maverik here in AZ. Now Maverik is your cheaper fuel kind of like WAWA on the east coast. I was running into issues with my fuel gauge on my 2001 C5 of it not reading right or it getting lazy when I parked it and turned it back on 1/2 a tank when I parked it and empty when I turned it back on and it slowly went back up. I put a thing of Techron in it and filled it up at a SHELL station and have not had an issues since.....I always thought gas was gas but I am a believer now......
All good advice save for the "backing in" part. I've found that the front end being low makes it easier for other people to back into. If there are parking spots opposite I always pull in front first. It's not hard to judge when to stop before hitting the curb or parking bumper.
The thing is that most new c8 owners are not buying the car because it’s a hobby or they want to be part of the community. These people are buying a rolling appliance they happens to be called a corvette. As far as the wave, I saw the same lack of the wave when the c7s became popular. So I basically gave up.
Wave! 👋 I was waiting for you to say that. And I was going to comment on it even if you didn't. I have tinted windows, so you might not see me waving unless I roll down the window, which I WILL do if I see you in time. If I didn't have time to get the window down, know that I am waving anyway.
Another commandment. Order a set of Factory Shop manuals along with any electrical/diagnostic supplements released. Also, order a owner's manual if the car's is missing. You may never lift the hood or pick up a wrench, but these publications will answer a LOT of questions. On the fuel tip, I have a '86 L98 iron cylinder DN 4+3 and I run the 90 octane ethanol-free gasoline.
Love your ten commandments, especially #4 and #10. As far as #10 is concerned, given the heavy tint people install, sometimes it is very difficult to see a wave. I have tried flashing my lights at coming Vettes and they usually flash or wave back. Like you, I also notice that new Vette owners, especially C8s, do not know about or care to wave -- so sad.
If you must use a carwash, try to find a touchless wash with no brushes just sprays. Some have undercarriage sprays for cleaning the bottom of the car.
The cheap gas comment is so true. After hurricane Milton, I put 93 octane gas from 7-11 in my 96 CE. It was the only gas available in my area. I've had an intermittent DTC code (P1441 evap system) ever since . Car always ran smoothly. Runs rough , then fine , rough, fine and so on. I always fill up with only top tier gas, except for this one time. I threw a bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner in. It's a little better but still intermittent code and rough idle. Time to put some Shell 93 in this afternoon. Still have a half tank of the bad gas. We'll see.
As to fuel quality, I've always bought from a name brand supplier. I always put 93 octane in my C6 Grand Sport, but just this past week I stopped at a Sunoco station because I saw the description "Ultra" and didn't know what that was. As it turns out, it's 94 Octane. Their premium is 93 octane, so you have the option to buy either one, except the Ultra is a fair amount more expensive. But I don't care because my Vette is not my daily driver. It might be me just thinking the Vettes performance was better, but yes, I felt a difference even with just a one-point increase in octane. I also add the Techron additive to help clean the injectors quarterly. Is that overkill? I'm sure it is, but my Vette is my forever car, so it's worth the extra cost. Save the Wave 👋
My first Corvette is a C8 that I have had for 10 months. I only use Shell fuel and I only hand wash the car(my ceramic coating helps keeping it clean easier). My C8 also has front lift which is a nice safety feature when entering driveways and driving over speed bumps.
I have a new to me C5 Corvette and always I pass the same white C8 Correct on my way to work and we always wave to each other and although we've never spoken it feels like I have an instant friend
Always waved on my motorcycle at other bikers. 99 percent will also stop to help you out if you have problems. I'm glad I just saw your video. I was right on the edge of getting a older model. Problem is I have a 1/2 mile on gravel (thats not terrible) road but there are a few places that have soild rocks that you really can't get around with a low car. The motorcycle was fine lol. I guess I'll be looking for a different hot rod. Any suggestions? Thanks
I've never ran my corvette or my Cadillac Ats-v through a automatic car wash that is a sin before GOD ! If I don't hand wash them I have them hand washed. Brother every command was spot on !
A C5 commandment: Thou shalt NOT place any container with liquid into the thing that looks like a cup holder on the center console. EVER! And, here is one for Chevrolet: Thou shalt NOT create a Corvette SUV.
Agreed hahaha. I carry anything with liquid in it in a container that's sealed and usually keep it close. I did buy a cup holder to put on the side console drinks don't always fit. That cup holder shouldn't even be there hahaha.
Calling it a cup holder is hilarious. Even with a 3d printed "cage", it's still useless. I don't know what they were thinking. I've got one in the passenger footwell and it's 100x more usable than the stock nonsense. Good for storing coins, I guess.
@@lobuzz311 in my C5 Corvette, it holds a master cut-off switch. I guess one of the previous owners needed a place to hide it (as an anti-theft device), and decided that, because the cup 'holder' is useless, anyway, that was as good a place as any
Was at my local Superstar carwash today. I drive a 2018 1794 Tundra. Its a very nice truck. But, it has its share of what we call in AZ "Arizona Pinstripes" down the side. (From taking it off road to have fun) Well, saw my first C8 go through the carwash and I was like, Dude, wft are you doing? When I owned Corvettes in the past (I will own one again) I ALWAYS hand washed those cars. C3, C4 and C5. Do not take a sports car like Corvette or Porsche or any other through an automatic car wash. JMHO
Biggest one should be “thou shalt not belittle any Corvette generation” they are all iconic in their own ways👍🏽 you hear that C6 fanboys? 😂
That is definitely one of the commandments! Enjoy! Lyle

They can keep their C8. They are ugly and sound like a big money pit
I dont consider the C8 a Vette anyway. They look like McLaren and Lamborghini had a baby. It's a super car not a Vette.
@@TJsVette im glad for my c4. Doesnt give me any problems.
Yeah and I wave and most Vette all years wave but C8 is by itself I don't like it and have money to buy never will love My C7 Z51 manual last of the breed
I’ve also witnessed many c8 drivers not waving back, I just wave anyway and maybe one day I’ll get one back
One drive I got a wave from a C8, but not from another modified C5. 🤷♂
I always wave from my c8!
You are a very important part of the overall Corvette community. Thank you for all you do!
Thank you, Lyle, I own a black C6 convertible for the past year. I’m just learning all the etiquette. Thank you for making it easy for me to understand his an 11th Commandment.
When the lights on your dashboard start coming on, bring it to the mechanic. don’t wait a month lol.
"Thou shall not use or name any SUV or derivative of any kind CORVETTE"
Like what Ford did to the Mustang
AMEN!!
As both a Corvette and Boss owner I agree. My world fractured when Ford broke this sacred rule! Please Chevrolet, keep my world from entirely falling apart. 🙏
AMEN!!!
Once again, words of wisdom to follow from a very smart man!
Save the wave!!
Same thing happened to me. What's up with C8 owners.
Goodness Lyle, I can't believe you're almost at 65k subs! Been here since 10k and proud!
My car wash has the no touch option, I use it in a pinch.
Welcome to the community!
All observations and suggestions are spot on, and for God’s sake always 👋🏼!
This was awesome, I agreed with all of them and shared it with my corvette friends.
I have been watching you for so long I knew even before you started the list what your most important commandment was going to be!
All very good commandments.
Thanks Lyle.
I love your thumbnail. That is funnier than heck.
C6 now.
When I was 25 I bought "MYSELF" a C5. Sorry for the correction.
@@z512345 When I was 25, I bought a C5. No need to say me or myself!
Yours truly,
The Grammar Nerd 🤓
I agree 110%. Thankyou Lyle,😊
Great video - loved this one - agree with every single commandment- well done!
I always wave, love all the years of this beautiful car!! Enjoy the drive!!!!!
Loved it. Thanks Lyle, great content.
The Miata Wave is still a thing.
That was enjoyable.
In my opinion, NEVER, EVER take a Corvette through an automatic car wash. Worst case, use their manual wash booth.
Great Video Lyle! Love your channel! might be the best video you have done yet! Great tips!
Hey Lyle, appreciate what you do. You impress me as a stand up guy. Wish I lived closer to Sarasota (except for Huricanes) so I could have you work on my 98 C5. Thanks, Oklahoma Stray Dog
A dirty car is better than a scratched car
You are very wise, Helen! I’d never run my Vette through an automatic car wash. I wash it by hand!
Its the V fingers wave in Canada....2 fingers up in victory wave
I bought my first Vette this summer, a C4. The only guys not to wave......C8 owners. 🙄
@@pmr413 I think they look down on us older gen vette owners 😂 Most probably haven’t owned a vette before they bought their C8
@@mattgerdisch You're probably right. Not everyone can put $100,000 into a toy.
They just want to be seen in it.
Nail on the head sir I totally agree with you!! Thanks for all of the awesome content!! 2015 c7 z51 owner I do the same things!!
Thanks for posting this. I gets everyone one on the same page. Go C6
First thing I was told when I bought my first Corvette was that you always wave to fellow Corvette owners. I was 22 at the time.
Nice list! You're right, C8 owners don't wave! I've had a couple c6 owners also.
Wave! 👋
I was waiting for you to say that. And I was going to comment on it even if you didn't.
I have tinted windows, so you might not see me waving unless I roll down the window, which I WILL do if I see you in time. If I didn't have time to get the window down, know that I am waving anyway.
Great commandment’s, I’ve been waving at other Corvette owners since 1968..
Thank you. 😊
Lyle, you nailed the largest majority of corvette commandments. Well thought out, but now , no more automatic car washes again. 😢
Lots of touchless car washes in our area. They do a pretty good job and we microfiber dry ours with good results.
Yet again a great video!
It's tough to flash my lights in my 69 C3, by the time they pop up the other car has long gone,. but I will roll down my window and wave.
If you must use a carwash, try to find a touchless wash with no brushes just sprays. Some have undercarriage sprays for cleaning the bottom of the car.
Great points !
I always wave or flick the daytime lights. Love my C7
My first Corvette is a C8 that I have had for 10 months. I only use Shell fuel and I only hand wash the car(my ceramic coating helps keeping it clean easier). My C8 also has front lift which is a nice safety feature when entering driveways and driving over speed bumps.
Do you wave other corvettes? 🧐
@@FrancoisTCS Of course! A friend who is a Corvette guy told me about the wave before I bought mine.
@@jeffbeaver4419 👌🏼👋🏼
Thanks
I will wave , but 80% of the time I will flash my lights.C6 corvette.
I've never ran my corvette or my Cadillac Ats-v through a automatic car wash that is a sin before GOD ! If I don't hand wash them I have them hand washed. Brother every command was spot on !
Great advice!
Big thumbs up 👍
Good stuff Lyle!
Agree!
C4 too
@@lobuzz311 in my C5 Corvette, it holds a master cut-off switch. I guess one of the previous owners needed a place to hide it (as an anti-theft device), and decided that, because the cup 'holder' is useless, anyway, that was as good a place as any
The Patron Saints of Vette stuff. Zora, Dave, an that Lyle guy from Florida.
A lot of similarities with the motorcycle community.
JMHO
