I’m trying to learn to cook for myself and decided that I’m gonna start with a grilled cheese sandwich, used this tutorial and it came out amazingly this really helped me out!
I made this simple grilled cheddar cheese sandwich for the first time, late at night… It’s an amazing grilled cheese sandwich! Reminds me of what my dad would make.
Growing up I made these sandwiches for my little brothers because of course they were my specialty 👩🏽🍳!! I would use 2 slices of kraft singles, a slice of deli ham on white Bimbo bread and of course country crock 🤷🏽♀️. I haven’t made this in a long time but I’m sure I’ll be making one soon 😋!! Thank you for this video, took me down memory lane! 😢😊
My wife loved basic grilled cheese sandwiches, but never cared much for tuna. I like grilled tuna on seaside sourdough bread with cheddar cheese in the middle. Seeing you make this basic sandwich is a nice way to remember my Linda. I will make one today with celery soup for lunch. Thanks for the memory.

Aw, that is sweet. I certainly like the combo of tuna and cheese as well. 😊
Thank you so much! I already made it.... Thanks a bunch for all your awesome recipes🤗 lol my mom would've said something like that too.. Latina moms know what their talking about👍
This with a bowl of tomato soup, awsome!! I always burned my grilled cheese sandwiches, so I gave up for a few years until today. Slow and steady like this woman talks is the key. Thanks so much.

Always glad to help. I know I can get long winded, but I had a blind subscriber that appreciated my talking in detail. THis is why I continue to maybe over explain things. I appreciate all of your kind and encouraging words. 😊
I am soo glad I found your video, you see I have not eaten cheese in my whole life, we just don't have this commodity where I reside. So when I finally got my hands on some cheese slices I immediately wanted to try to that quintessential american grilled cheese sandwich which I grew up watching in all the cartoons. And believe me I am not disappointed in the least bit, cheese rocks!
My mom used country crock exclusively. She also buttered both sides of each slice. Haven't had a grilled cheese in years! But I will be having one for lunch today. Thanks for the upload!
Heck yeah CAST IRON!! I cook only on cast iron and nothing’s better than a toasted sandwich in cast iron ❤️ love your videos! I’ve recently changed from electric stove to propane and found EVERYTHING is cooked at a lower temp. I cook my sandwiches on 2 (low) otherwise they burn and the cheese doesn’t melt. Just me 😊
I also made one today. I made it much like the first one except that I first fried an egg (I half-scrambled it and used a silicone ring mold to keep its shape) to put into the grilled cheese. I also used a small amount of shredded cheddar along with the 2 slices of processed cheese. It comes out like an amazing breakfast sandwich.
I usually do two slices of Italian bread, and three slices of cheese. Two slices are artisan of whatever I'm feeling; gouda, smoked cheddar, provologne, colby-jack, havarti, etc. the third slice, and the one that goes in between the two, is almost always a slice of American cheese. Butter both slices of bread on their tops, put the cheese on the bottom slice, assemble the sandwich in a preheated pan (probably lower temperature than your), start cooking, flip once the bottom becomes golden and stiff, finish cooking, and then eat - either alone or with tomato soup.
Thank you such an amazing guide See I am Indian but I am fascinated by your country's food and I made the grilled cheese sandwich and I enjoyed it thank you so much
YUM! Love sourdough! We do ours with mayonaise spread on the bread instead of butter and we love sharp cheddar with thin slices of peeled apples. It's so good!
My favorite also!! My grandmother used to make hers with an iron, wrapped in aluminum foil. It was flat and toasted, crunchy and melted. They were the best!!!
Sour dough is the best bread ever invented. That second sandwich had me swooning. BTW, for a while I used mayo instead of butter but at some point decided it was gross.
Sour dough for you, Hawiian for me! 😉 When having cold cut sandwich or PBJ, I also love raisin bread or the similar. Grilled cheese with raisin or the similar as well. Of course no mayo with cold cut on raisin bread, or blueberry, strawberry, etc, yuuuuck! But then mayo or Miracle Whip not been my thang lately except tuna salad or when I have Subway....,
Thank you for this brief but informative video on making the classic, American, simple grilled cheese sandwich, no frills, no alterations. Your butter spreads easily like margarine. I usually find my butter block too hard. I microwave my butter block but it's messy but works. I've also tried margarine due to its ease of spreading. But margarine lacks the taste of butter and the grilled cheese sandwich is bland. No, it has to be butter. When I was a grade schooler, one year, maybe two, it was so long ago, the grade school had no cafeteria. At lunchtime the school bus would take us home for lunch. The one hour lunch break included the ride time so I actually had less than one hour for lunch. I would reach home where my mother already had lunch prepared. It was a grilled cheese sandwich with hot soup, often cream of mushroom. Now I like grilled cheese sandwiches but having to eat it every day turned me off to grilled cheese sandwiches. It wasn't until somewhere in my independent adult life that I started to like grilled cheese sandwiches again. Tonight is Friday night. Being Lenten time, no meat. So it's going to be, grilled cheese sandwiches, two, to be exact, and a can of cream of mushroom soup. I've tried tomato soup, too. Some people say tomato soup is the best with grilled cheese sandwiches. They might be right but I prefer my cream of mushroom, just as mom cooked for me so many decades ago.
Thank you showing these yummy grilled cheese sandwiches. I loved that you showed a truly classic sandwich that I'm sure brought a knowing smile to so many people of something that is comforting to us all. Sure brings good memories back. My husband passed away in March and I am truly going to miss his grilled cheese sandwich. He made it like your first one but he buttered both sides of each bread. He cooked it low and slow. It was perfectly crunchy yet moist and the cheese was perfectly melted. I know I will never be able to achieve that perfection but I will enjoy the memories and try your second sandwich that looked delicious I would have loved to have the other half of the one you cooked!

I am so sorry to read about the passing of your husband. My condolences. I certainly am glad this brought back a good memory. 😊
I’m 78 so grew up in the 40-50’s out in the county. We ate mostly our garden food but mom would treat me often with a grilled cheese made in iron skillet, real homemade butter and top the American cheese with light brown sugar which would melt as the white bread toasted. Give this a try it’s wonderful!
Thanks for the awesome recipe! I'm an early teen and this was the second thing I cooked after an omelette. It tasted sooo well. And luckily, everything was available so I could enjoy it to the full!
This is what I was looking for, I watched like 3-4 videos before this one and this is what I wanted. Basic instructions for a basic GC sandwich. I watched a video where the guy was explaining how to make the cheese! It was like a science experiment lmao Thanks for the upload!
my grandmother worked at an american air force base and in my childhood i ate a lot of sandwiches like these, thank you, it reminded me of the wonderful childhood at my grandmother's house
This is so nostalgic to watch! My mom would make me a grilled cheese sandwich after school every other day. ☺️🤤🥪 Your take on the grilled cheese sandwich looks so yummy!! I'll have to try it!!😊💙
My Mom would test our smoke detectors every time she made grilled cheese. You knew it was time to eat when the smoke detectors went off. Scrape off the burnt bread and there's lunch.
I like my grilled cheese sandwich with just oil from the pan of it and American orange cheese I don’t add anything else to it but you did add different cheese to it and made it spicy with jalapeño peppers which look good also 👍❤
I love a grilled cheese especially in the summer with the addition of a sliced tomato off the vine.

Nice! I actually like to make grilled cheese and serve then with fresh grape tomatoes on the side. Why did I not think to add sliced tomatoes to the sandwich.
Yummm! I still love grilled cheese sandwiches! I cook mine on low, lightly covered with a foil "tent" it helps melt the cheese real nice. 😋 I always enjoy your videos!
I lived on these things in my twenties. I would lay two pieces of bread in My Pan along with two pieces of ham, add my cheese to each of the two pieces of bread, flip my ham once while the two pieces of bread were toasting, put the ham on top of the cheese on each of the two pieces of bread and then add two more slices of bread to the top and immediately flip. Two hot ham and cheese Toasties, ready to serve with a can of Bean with bacon soup, fresh out of the microwave. Man sized lunch for under $2 and 5 minutes of my time. In my early 40s, this is still one of my favorite things to do for lunch on a Saturday.
I've always rushed the process, causing the bread to get a bit over cooked. Also, I add butter to the pan instead of the bread, but it almost always burns. I'm definitely going to slow it way down and butter the bread. Thanks for the tips.
when I was 8 years old my mother taught me to make grilled cheese sandwich. Thin spread of mayo on the inside of bread, 2 slices of american cheese, butter the bread on the outside and cook in a pan like you did.
Beast mode while the bread is still crunchy . One of our standard sandwiches grilled cheese. Pbj, tuna, bacon and tomatoes, or just tomatoes, and hamburgers. I love fancy grilled cheese too with all kinds of cheeses and breads; also grilled over the fire on the outdoor grill. Smokey! Yum. We are 60 and 70 and don't like to fancy of sandwiches any more. After we get home from working 10 hours in our factory it's hard to think of what to cook besides not having the energy for fancy dinners. I think we will have the standard grilled cheese tonight. Thank you sweet G Mama!! I love you channel. ♥️
I too grew up with a tub of margarine we used for everything. My dad really liked grilled pimento-cheese sandwiches. My creation was sautéed button mushroom slices with American cheese (yes, and white bread).
Grilled Cheese is so comforting!! I love Sharp Cheddar with 12 grain, seeded, brown bread. Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter ❤. Pepper Jack cheese is also nice. Heck..a variety of cheese is delish too!
I make mine with shredded chedder and, after toasting the bread, I scatter some more cheese on the outside and toast it again. This make a crunchy cheesy outside and a melted cheese inside. Yummy!
I use ghee butter and velvetta cheese slices on thick white bread. I use a cast iron frying pan and I put another smaller cast iron pan on top of the bread to smash it down while it toast.
I'm terribly impatient so I always cover my grilled cheese with another pan while I'm cooking it. This traps the heat in so the cheese melts and I can cook it a little faster without sacrificing the cheese. (The top piece of bread doesn't fall off when you flip this way, either)
Also I use mayo instead of butter and sometimes throw a little garlic powder on the mayoed sides of the bread. Always pair with Campbell's tomato soup or (in a pinch) ketchup.
My sister in law makes it with cheddar, sourdough and butter. But then she sprinkles Parmesan cheese over the butter on the outside... Holy cow, that is delightful!
Thank you for showing me how to make a grilled cheese sandwich. I used provolone cheese, sourdough bread, and added tomato 🍅 and mushrooms. This was my first time making grilled cheese (yes, I’m a virgin at cooking) and I think that I did a good job.
I'm dating myself, but when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s, we didn't have the cheese slices individually wrapped. And IMO, the Kraft American slices that are presliced but not individually wrapped taste so much better. My favorite version is the original: white bread, butter and TWO slices of American cheese. Yum.
Great video. I have learned that of i toast my bread first i can spread up my grilled cheese.. toast it first. Add the butter second and then put it on the Skillet with cheese. It melts quicker and gives it the even toast with out the burn. The cheese melts faster also. I love it
I love sooo many things about this video!!! You have an amazing voice and your sense of humor is incredible! And the crunchy sound from sandwich 2.0 is heavenly! I'm going to make mine sandwich now with Monterey Jack and Havarti! Thanks again!

Yum.
I just had a nice dinner... after watching this vid, I want a nice golden brown grilled cheese with that lip smacking crunch!
I’m on a low carb/low cal diet and let me tell you...my mouth is WATERING!
it certainly did! i want a grilled cheese now!!
Grilled cheese with a fried egg makes a great breakfast sandwich
ok
@@mariochesser7849 Or tomato soup Yum!
Great video. I have learned that of i toast my bread first i can spread up my grilled cheese.. toast it first. Add the butter second and then put it on the Skillet with cheese. It melts quicker and gives it the even toast with out the burn. The cheese melts faster also. I love it
I grew on this exact style grilled cheese. However, it's not ready to eat until it's cut into 2 triangle slices!
I love sooo many things about this video!!! You have an amazing voice and your sense of humor is incredible! And the crunchy sound from sandwich 2.0 is heavenly! I'm going to make mine sandwich now with Monterey Jack and Havarti! Thanks again!
Ok simp harder man.
@@justinchristie2437 Lol you're so right! Thanks for giving me the suggestion. #gobblegobble
