I grow my rampicante vertically every year. I like a cattle panel arbor or just my yard fence works well. I also grow my rampicante as a zucchini type veg. I have never grown it to be an overwintered veg.

I forgot to mention how delicious it is as a tender green zucchini - thanks for mentioning that! Do you feel like you get a high yield growing vertically?

Do you eat the rapicante as a summer zucchini? Is it the same flavor?
And how long did you have to wait for the logs to decompose? A few years?

Yes absolutely you can eat the Rampicante green, and at any size. It has a nuttier taste than something like Black Beauty zucchini. Initially when I set up my growing hill, I had plenty of small/fine debris that piled high and broke down by the next spring - at least well enough for me to tuck some plants in. (I shred all my leaves btw before I compost them.) But it’s been many years at this point and I just keep topping it. There’s a science to hugelkultur beds but I’ve just been winging it. 🙂
