Please note that all the pedal knobs you see are close to the milliseconds I give, it may not be precisely the right milliseconds. So please, PLEASE set your delay time according to the milliseconds information and not according to my pedal knobs. I forgot to mention but some delays are different of course, I’m talking about having delay level around %20 for cleans, but on something like breathe, you should have it around %35, so please know that this is a guideline, your ears are better for making some judgement calls. There are hundreds of Gilmour songs, my archive contains a lot too, but as you can understand from the video, you can use the same delay settings for MOST of the songs, that’s why I’ve included what you SHOULD know, rest is up to you. And of course, as always, ask me, I’ll be here for your questions. You're literally my brother. Ok not literally but our obsession is the same, been playing 15 years now, boatman symbol on wrists, the three lines and one parted E on my chest. Great channel brah
I like to 550 milisecond delay on dogs, especially for the harmony solo and last solo. in the harmony solo kinda adds some of those background guitars. and in the last solo when it has that one descending harmony part before repeating the harmony solo, the delay kinda gives it that effect.
I use a vintage Electric Mistress but I've heard good things about the Mooer Elady. I recently bought my first Mooer, a Mooer Pitch Box pedal and it works fairly good for the price. It will pitch shift your guitar's tuning to a different tuning (like the EH Pitch Fork) and the detune setting does a good job at emulating Eddie's "Van Hagar era" 'static chorus' effect (think Round & Round and Best of Both Worlds for example). However, it doesn't work so well in harmony mode. Too much lag time means it sucks at producing harmony lead sounds .... but 2 out of 3 ain't bad and I bought it new for $59!!!!! If you want something that will do all three plus some, you'll need to fork out $400+ (the price of a new Digitech Whammy pedal.).
Run Like Hell is a series Dual Delay "Eighth" + "Dotted Eighth". I forget which order they come in. Trust me, try it, experiment.... et voila, Run Like Hell.
Can u cover two songs. Another brick in the wall and comfortable numb. Like how i can ashieve the delay on solo and corus and aswell what other effects or amp or whatever. Would be perfect whit such vid
this is not a dumb question. that's the reason I'm showing the pedal settings on each clip. and honestly, after a while you know how long 440, 370, 540ms is. tc electronics' nova delay is great and shows you the ms on it's screen.
Theres a video of Gilmour playing SOYCD at the mixing board and it distincly has 2 delays in serial...does anyone know about the settings on that? It sounds really good.
Are the knobs you show a rough estimate of where you think those delay times are? I read on the manual the range is from 20ms to 7000ms, Seems like it would be super hard to get any difference between 300 to 700 ms and the knob would have to be very close to 6 o'clock.
Honestly, there is no easy way to do this Chris :) it's just the way it is... There is Nova Delay from TC Electronic, that shows the ms. There are probably other pedals out there too that does the same. But after a couple of try, you get used to knobs. Also, it says around 20ms-7000ms but know that half way is not 3500ms. Each turn exponentially increases. So the difference between 300ms and 700ms is huge. till 1 second (i mean 1000ms) it's really easy, after that it might get crazy but I've never used it past 2 o'clock maybe. so yeah, 300ms is around 10 o'clock and 700 ms is around 1 o'clock. it's mostly different for every delay pedal probably and even my knobs are not maybe %100 spot on 370ms, 440ms, ,750ms, but I listen delay times and try to get the same repeat effect. I use logic pro delay (I can get %100 spot on 370, 440, 750 or whatever) to hear the delay time, and repeat the same thing on pedal and mark the knob's tip.
@@mustyguitar Nice, thanks! I just got mine last night, and realized that there was no way 12 o’clock was 3500 lol. Thanks for the explanation, I didn’t think about it exponentially increasing !
yeah, flanger and rotary always sound better on another brick in the wall pt 1. it just sounds dry and boring without them. I can only listen to the 1980 live version. so i downloaded it and opened it with apple music and added it to my playlist
Hey thanks again for the great content. So I am in a Pink Floyd Tribute here in NY. What are your thoughts about tap delay instead of locked in ms delay? The reason I ask is that tempos differ in a live situation and if I lock in my delays, the repeats will be off if the band is not at the exact tempo as the recorded versions.
well that's true, I didn't play live that much, I'm not the guy to answer it properly, but tap tempo makes sense right now. edit: I use 2 delays on my pedalboard for quick delay change. I think tap tempo makes even more sense now :)
@@mustyguitar But then my choices are Dotted which is obvious for the Wall Dotted delays. But the dilemma is for all others. Chices are 1/8 or 1/4? I will experiment but was wondering if you had any ideas about that?
@@douginny that is probably correct. but on the earlier stuff, gilmour has 310ms and even 290 ms (syd's theme). though, that's tape or analog delay, not digital
Ouch! @ 0:40.. I'm glad that pedal you dropped wasn't one of those plastic, Behringer pedals that sell for $20 on Amazon ... you drop one of them and they crack like egg shells!!!!! well he used tape delay before animals (echorec) but it basically does the same, except the tape might have a few extra things. and the original recording of run like hell has 2 delay units. but even if it doesn't. it just sounds cooler. like come on. I can't play run like hell unless i have that 2 delay units effect

How am I supposed to know if im on the right amount of ms like 400ms because it’s not written on the pedal
David's guitar sound is unique, unmistakable, magical, hypnotic, therapeutic.
The best tone ever
David's guitar tone rules! And Roger is God (not really .... he just thinks he is).
Very nice. I know Gilmour “ping-pong”d his delay for stereo effect. I’m certain most, if not all, delays were multi tap / ping pong’d

Are these delay times just arbitrary numbers that sound good or these ms times synched up with the beat?
Can you show “Blue Light”?
What do you think about the Strymon Volante for Gilmore delays?
By the way I enjoy your videos. They fun and entertaining, good job!
I haven't tried Volante but all Strymon pedals are awesome, so...
Hey. I was woundering. But what studio setting and other Effects should i use?
This might sound like a dumb question but how do you set the delay pedal (I have the Flashback 2) to the exact delay time eg 440ms?

I think it's around 440-450ms with 6 repeats and mixed around %30 or something. but i heard it's analog delay. I still use digital though.

Just thinking about it. Probably 1/8 for the shorter 370ms delays like in Time and 1/4 for the longer 440 - 570 delays. Slapback would be 1/16
