This whole thing is spectacular but when lazuli takes the lantern, the transition between the first shot of saccharina and jet's burial, and jet hugging ruby as she disappears in particular destroyed me
Seeing Jets expression change as she goes from being happy that they beat the sugar plum fairy to realizing that that means she has to leave Ruby behind for good absolutely wrecks me
Jet flipping off the archers was such a joy to see.

The transition from saccharina to jets burial genuinely makes me burst into tears each time
so i know this is nearly two years old, but i just finished "a crown of candy" for the first time and while searching for fan content, came across this. it leaves me speechless. i've watched your animatic maybe ten times in the last two days because i can't stop thinking about it-- how perfect the music is not just lyrically, but tonally, and how no other animatics i've found really cover the back-half of the series in detail like this. and the small touches that really show how harrowed the characters were from episodes 9-17. truly amazing work, i wish it had ten times the views.

This was no joke one of the most amazing animatics I have ever seen, for REAL. I don't tend to get emotional at this stuff but oh my GOD everything was SO FITTING. You did this masterfully, every scene I recognised and was blown away by. Good lord.

Found this way back in June when I first finished a crown of candy and no matter how many times I watch it, it makes me cry. This is the best animatic I’ve ever seen in my life. The song is so fitting and you were so clever with so many choices. Lazuli taking the lantern was so damn good, the transition from Saccharina to Jet, your depiction of the sugar plum fairy and that moment in the song when Ruby kills her, Jet being the only one not smiling as they fade away, the twins hugging while Jet disappears, that shot of Saccharina on Cinnamon before the final battle, I could literally go on and on. This is such a work of art

this is one of the best animatics i’ve ever seen. each frame has the perfect details to communicate the emotions of each scene, and the transitions are phenomenal. each frame is a masterpiece in its own right and i have no idea how you did them all and made them fit so seamlessly together.
i was surprisingly able to hold in my tears until 4:17; seeing Jet and Ruby embracing while Jet’s shadow faded was just too much to handle. especially with all the other Rocks sisters being happy as they left, but Jet’s eyes brimming with tears as she had leave her sister and watch Ruby’s pain as she fades away. when i first watched this scene in ACoC i sobbed because it’s not like other stories; there will be no signs, and no one can come help or save the day - Jet is gone forever and Ruby will have to be without her for the rest of her life. as someone with a sister very close in age, i can’t even imagine.
it hits hard every single time, because we all want to believe in an afterlife that isn’t just oblivion, that our loved ones are “looking down on us.” but here, if they were to continue looking down on the living they would be trapped in a twisted realm between life and true death, which would be selfish of the living to ask of the dead. therefore letting go in that moment is like a second, more permanent, and more painful death and grief. the acceptance of the initial death has barely sank in when they have to let go of each other for a second time, for good, knowing they probably will never see each other again in this life or the next. not in a shadow or a mirror now and then, just gone.
i do love the idea of Lazuli being with them all the while, in her ways bracing their falls and being a guiding light. i love the thought that when Jet died that she wasn’t alone, Lazuli was there to comfort her and help her with her own loss - even though Jet is the one who died, she lost her sister too and has to watch her family mourn her.
this combined with this song just destroyed me. it’s like a bittersweet folk hymn meant to be sang at funerals, walking through the person’s life so that all in attendance can witness, remember, and pass on their greatness.
i probably won’t watch this again any time soon because it hurts too much. but thank you for this and the new light you have shed onto the story.

Hello this is SO GOOD!!!! Absolutely incredible!! This hit so deep ,,, the part at the end where Jet's shadow fades away as her ghost embraces Ruby??? Crushing??! I REALLY love the visual of Jet's ghost following the party around!! And the transitions you made are so beautiful, I especially love the transition where it goes from Saccharina to Jet in her grave!!! And when it switches between the rocks sisters near the end!!! You really are an amazing artist, your anatomy and expressions are so good! And this song fits so well, especially how you used the lyrics, it's perfect!!!
