Holy crap, the adjustments in neutral Light was making on the fly in game 2 were insane. He took on micro-spacing to not only avoid Byleth on-stage upB, but also DI-in on the same tool to take weak hits rather than tippers. Phenomenal play

The precision in this match is absolutely unbelievable. I wouldn't put leo far above light in skill at all, but theres an edge here that makes me want to root for light.
Leo is such a crazy player and I love him. The way he presents himself is so interesting. He looks mentally unshakeable when he's in the zone. He never freezes, never worries, never phases in or out, and never backs down. So poised and calculated. It is almost terrifying.

Byleth really is a good character MkLeGOAT proved that from what I see alot of Byleth's attacks has long range and low lag and that nair is so frustrating to deal with and not to mention its extremely hard to gimp Byleth so you pretty much have to take a stock by sending him to the blast zone. In my opinion a top 10 character in smash when used properly.

Byleth definitely is not top 10. This character has a ton of flaws and struggles vs quite a few characters.
Leo has shown this character is better than people realized, but this character isnt top 10. Leo is just insanely good. Byleth is like, high tier at best. Definitely not as good as the top tier characters.
@@loghen01 I think Fox is possibly a top 10 character as well but in my opinion Byleth wins this MU I feel Byleth can wall Fox out but ofcourse any other Byleth wouldn't have a chance against Light.

Amazing set! Game 2 11:00 is the perfect example of "talking with our swords"
Leo started to feel himself and got mad disrespectful. Light then proceeded to annihilate Leo and can really tell from Lights play that he felt disrespected.
Then Leo played respectfully and crushed another smash god. God King Leo does it again and if he keeps this up he really will get to the rare God of Gods tier joining the ranks of prime Zero, SonicFox, Prime Daigo, Justin Wong etc

Light
This set is proof that fox objectively should not have such a short, stubby grab. Like he has speed and fairly good burst kill power, but considering his speed and burst options are so punishable if they whiff, it can feel like you just have to guess if you'll choose the right option with 2/3rds of his kit, and (coming from a fox main) he just loses so many head to head interactions that make so much of his stuff not even worth going for anymore. If he could mix up burst options with grab too (the way that, say, mythra does since her grab is tremendously longer reaching and faster overall; despite not killing) then he'd be on the same level as byleth/aegis/joker for sure, but as it stands, fox really only has attack timing mix ups and very rare grab mix ups. You have to put yourself right on top of the enemy to mix a grab up or take a 1/3 chance follow up out of slightly untrue options to get your grab off (the only truly safe option in untrue followups would be a run-up shield, but that just resets your advantage state instead of pushing it; but the pushing options get punished on whiff so hard its unreal; honestly few other characters have that problem in such spades). Trying to set up for that, a LOT of his stuff is either unsafe or untrue outside of extremely precise percent windows and the only real way to get around that is to mix up attack timings or just choose to risk going for a grab instead, just to get some positioning that he usually can't take advantage of, especially against all the "I can recover from anywhere and my disjointed hitboxes are bigger than I am" sword characters in the game. MKLeo is amazing, of course, but I feel like his sets with Light show a pattern of Light mostly winning when he involves more risk and unreactable pressure, which works well enough for looping the enemy into tech situations and ledge traps when fox is in advantage, but it opens up so many opportunities for him to lose so much since his shield pressure is VERY difficult to make safe, his grab is trash, and a lot of his attacks whiffing have no back-up strategy; and the ones that do (like down air covering for dropped shields or tech rolls on platforms) are unsafe on shield anyways, not to mention this outright killing him so much earlier than other characters that it almost feels unfair sometimes. Fox only really has footstool/jump/nair/short hop FF bair/up smash out of shield and those can all be beaten by big disjointed safe moves; in byleth's case, most of which just kill him outright or setup for kill options at no extra risk most of the time. Light's reaction time is great too, but there's only so much gambling on reaction time will do for you when you have to play like that over and over and over again just to win. Ultimately, other top characters can throw out a kill option that's safe, leads to more kill options on whiff, and mix in grabs much easier while being heavy as hell, while fox generally has to just camp and be VERY patient with turnaround lasers or try getting a hit in to start a tech loop and STICK to the enemy. Not enough of his stuff is true enough to make that lead to kills unless you succeed 3 - 4 times and do so at VERY precise percents and actually react to you getting those setups in time; but if you guess wrong, it's lights out in 2-maybe 3 lost interactions. You just have to work so hard to be competitive with fox, and that's why people are so hyped up when Light actually starts winning; because Fox is just very volatile and now a days, he only really invalidates mid tier and lower characters. For sure Light played this game as "correct" as possible, but the sets where he's won look like "incorrect" unsafe play, which stopped working at genesis (probably) because Leo has enough experience playing against Light to know what to look for. That's why Light just backed off and only really got the win upon changing playstyle on stock 3 game 3; but you could easily write it off as just guessing right, backed up by Light's phenomenal execution and knowledge of the game/fox in general.
Super amazing set honestly; I just wish the devs didn't give fox both of those glaring weaknesses when so many other characters can exploit them so effortlessly and tend to have only one real weakness. DI'ing down into a tech in place up smash was hype as hell because of how risky that play was; it just happened to catch Leo doing the wrong option, but if Leo did literally anything else, it was over for Light game 3 anyways. All the best to both players, they're both very engaging to watch and analyze.

Not really, light was playing well he just didn't pull the trigger enough, his patient game was doing good and throwing leo off but light didn't take advantage of opportunities wen he had it which I didn't like, he needs to mix up his patient game with his aggressive smothering game and he'll dominate the competition a lot more

The commentary is typically skewed to the under dog or the bracket runner trying to make a point. It has nothing to do with country.
Also, like it or not, light has the hypest sets with highest tension. He's a meta-favorite, which is why he has a crowd that rallies behind him.
I feel Max was very biased towards Light this tourney that made me cringe a few times. TK was on point tho, good job.

Potentially, but its a tight competition.
Leo and Sparg0 are top 2 free. But the 3-5 spots could be quite a few people. Glutony, Protobanham, Light and Tweek are the main contenders. But only 3 of them can be top 5.
Tweek is most likely 3rd due to his multiple major wins and top 2s however. He's pretty much guaranteed top 5 and likely 3rd.
Gluto also just has had insanely good results lately, several wins on Leo and Sparg0, as well as winning records on most of the other top 10 including 2 sets on light at genesis and pound. So Gluto is likely going to be 4th.
Then Proto is a big maybe too, he's #1 in Japan and wins basically everything at Japan. He also got 3rd at summit with a win on Leo so he has some results in NA.
But yea, Light does have good results too. a win on Leo, 2nd at summit, 5th at genesis, 3rd at pound. Few other solid results. He could be top 5 but its gonna be close.
Personally I think the top 6 right now is Leo > Sparg0 > Tweek > Glutony > Light > Protobanham
in that order. But this is very possible to change.

Can I just say. The intensity and commentary of campy melee matches is just way better than ultimate.
This was exciting... for 8 picoseconds at a time while light approached, then boring for 4 seconds while he dashed away. High level definitely, the reactions are amazing on both ends, but melee just looks so much more fluid
