  • April 16, 2011 NOTE: There is no footage of an actual funnel cloud contained in this video. This is a documentary of our experience during the tornado outbreak of April 2011. We knew this day was going to be big but we didn't know that we would end up in one of the worst hit areas when we started our chase day. We ended up being about a mile away from the EF-3 tornado that ripped through Sanford, NC. We came upon the scene at Lowes hardware within about 30 minutes of the tornado destroying the building. We initially offered first aid assistance then later switched to a traffic control as well as assisting the Sanford PD with weather and radar updates. We were on scene until around 2115. - www.severeweath...

I’m from Cameron, NC about 15 minutes outside of Sanford and this tornado started with half a mile from my house. We could see the trees with their tops twisted off heading towards Sanford. I remember this day very well.

I remember this day well, i live in NC and work at Lowe's #1689 in Clinton a tornado missed our store by a mile, many tornados touched down this day, they focus on Sanford but there was more damage done in Dunn NC and lives lost as well, as I'm writing this we're bracing for bad weather tomorrow with possible tornados, almost 2 years to the date....God be with us

Softball game canceled. Mom calling freaking out over a rain wrapped tornado in Sanford and where I was. Missed our house by a couple miles.

It is very rare for a "HIGH RISK" of severe weather to be issued anywhere in the Eastern US like this day I remember this outbreak but I live in New Jersey, waiting for the day a high risk gets issued for New Jersey now that would be a first because up to now its NEVER happened before and that would be a weather story for the record books!!!

I was living in Durham when this hit. I had the Skywarn net on the 146.88 repeater going in the background while I hung out on a weather forum with a lot of Triangle-area people on it. It was one hell of a day, that's for sure. My father-in-law lived in Apex at the time and the tornado tore up the woods on the other side of his street no more than a hundred yards from his house. The worst that happened to me in Durham was getting a branch dropped across the hood of my '96 Ram. No big deal. I was lucky.

Lots of fancy equipment and your radar is stellar. A bit baffled why she's always measuring the wind...esp while a tornado laying down miles behind you. Granted, it's called chasing for a reason, I'm sure you guys have grown into great spotters over the years.

Was monitoring for the past few days via Net traffic and online radar and news streams. Also via Echolink as were a lot of Hams on the West Coast. Great job passing traffic, a fine example of Amateur Radio Operators and Goodwill. What Software/ website were you using for Radar, looked really nice. I am sure this experience will provevery useful for any of your future weather spotting if need be. I also send my blessings and thoughts to those who suffered from these storms. 73 John K6LSN

This is the worst video I ever seen. The fire department is right there. “Let me make sure everyone is ok”. As if the fire department isn’t doing their job. Then it is nothing but video of cars and the back seat. Boring!
