    I use this tape job everyday on my left ankle for practices and games on my left ankle after I sprained it. I play vollyball and basketball and this tape job works great! This is the best tape job I have ever used. It supports and protects my ankle but I loosen where it needs to be loosened to fit my ankle. Thank you for posting this! I use it almost every day!

      its just normal athletic tape that you can buy almost anywhere in the 'medical' section of stores. If they have band aids, they will have athletic tape. Its everywhere!

      Hey, I'm a young athelete, there's not much awareness about this kind of stuff where I live, I've never had an ankle injury but i do put a lot of stress on them when I play, would you recommend using tape? Or anything else like tape?

    • @henriettemunch6283
      @henriettemunch6283 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@whoooshme8898 id recommend u to use it if you feel just the slightest bit of pain or feel like you are putting to much stress on them / doing an exercise that could possibly be harmful for them, but dont use it all the time.i had a bad injury once and wore tape for like a year or more, so when i decided to not use it anymore my ankle was so used to the tape that it was very difficult.

    • @Kmack9791

      CueTheAnxiety, when you get ready to tear the tape, place your thumbs close together at the edge of the tape, pull tension in opposite directions, then twist in opposite directions while holding the tape firmly. I prefer the 3M brands. They are more consistent.

    hey man first of all thank you for this great video I have a lot of things I'm going to ask you after watching this! I do have a question though:
    can I do this using a sock and some duct tape temporarily till I get the products you have on your video? my ankles and my feet at work are getting banged up and I'm trying to keep them having a little more compression. I've been wearing two pairs of socks but I want to put a little tape around the ankle and that's the only thing I have right now on both ankles actually is that possible, meaning is there a safe way you can describe how to do it? Thank you very much!

    Why are you taping the ankle into inversion? Shouldn't your wraps after the horse shoe be pulled upwards?

    • @star2345678901
      @star2345678901 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depends which way he rolled his ankle!

    • @SRR1213
      @SRR1213 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stirrups pull into eversion for an inversion/lateral sprain. For eversion sprains, you want to pull the stirrups into neutral, meaning tension up on both sides. You never put the ankle into inversion when taping because of the strength of the medial ligaments compared to the lateral ligaments.

      Body is naturally clever and therefore lazy. It can stabilise the ankle with it's own ligaments and muscles. Give it external support and you will slowly lower your senso-motoric level of control = worse stability in long term prospective..:-) Passive stabilisation is always a double-edged weapon.

      I personally can't play with it! Usually trainers follow the same method but with less layers.
      Plus you play football, I play basketball. A lot more direction changes in basketball and less full speed sprints

    • @isaiahquidilla3153
      @isaiahquidilla3153 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Omar Khalil That's the point of taping: to constrict the movements in the area. I taped a girl today but she kept complaining it was too tight. Then the athletic trainer came in, heard her problem, and actually taped it even tighter than what I did.

    • @okabc
      @okabc 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting. Personally I couldn't play with that sort of tape job thought. Plus if you tape tightly what happens to all the blood?

    • @isaiahquidilla3153
      @isaiahquidilla3153 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Omar Khalil well if you do it correctly it wouldn't be a problem. You check to make sure theres still blood flow afterwards. The whole point of taping is to provide extra structural support through the tape. However mobility is sacrificed for stability.

    I'm a high school student, and even I know that the method he chose to employ is incorrect when it comes to taping ankles.
    All the things wrong with this video:
    1. He didn't specify which ankle injury he was taping for. It's far more effective to tape according to one's injury, such as an inversion or an eversion, rather than haphazardly slap tape onto an athlete's ankle.
    2. He didn't use lace pads or an adhesive spray.
    3. He didn't cover the entire ankle with pre-wrap.
    4. He dug the stirrups into the foot farther than necessary.
    5. He didn't space the stirrups accordingly. Stirrups need to be placed about a thumb's width from the base of the heel.
    6. He closed off the tape job going bottom to top. This is bad because when putting on a sock, the athlete will begin to pill the tape, creating more irritation throughout a practice or a game.
    thanks for coming to my TED talk :)

      what if your ankle always hurts during practice ? should u take a break or tape it while youre in practice ?

      +Pamela Najar well tape is only super useful for the first twenty minutes after properly administered. So if your ankle hurts during practice, have your trainer or someone who knows how to tape ankles tape you up and help you. But when you get home take off the tape and ice your ankle

      At the end of the wrapping, you would do a capillary refill check, basically squeezing the toes a bit and seeing if they get pink quick to check blood flow. But I get where you're coming from.

      What would you recomend to support an ankle or to help prevent sprains/rolls in leu of this taping method?

      I would highly suggest checking your footwear. High-top sneakers or something that holds/supports your ankles would be ideal.

      Sean Webster hey sorry I meant for Osbaldo Fuentes to reply, I was kind of being snarky in that, I see it as a simple matter of taping looser if its cutting circulation.
      That being said, based on your comment I actualy did go out and purchace a pair of hi-tops, I can feel already how these will help although I have yet to try them out in an actual game :)

      And in my opinion it is bad form to critizise something without offering an alternative.
